Yair, Symon, I said much the same thing earlier in this thread. As things stand here in Oz, there is nothing to stop a person who has just passed their driving test from getting into a high powered muscle car and driving interstate. Now, that's asking for trouble. Problem is, a little 4 cylinder buzz bomb can go fast enough to kill or maim an inexperienced driver if it gets wrapped around a tree. Newly licensed drivers should not be allowed on the open highway without first receiving training on handling a vehicle at speeds above 80kph. O.K., so experience only comes with time spent behind the wheel but, PROPER, more EXTENSIVE TRAINING could possibly keep young drivers alive long enough to GAIN that experience. Rick. :devious: :devious:
  3. Well, there ya go mate, As the old saying goes, Ask and ye shall receive, seek and ye shall find. (Or sumpin like that). Makes it a lot easier when the right questions are asked. That just abouty completes your requests doesn't it ???? Except for the mood lighting that is. :devious: :devious: :devious: Rick.

I reckon that all those Healthy Lifestyle Fanatics are going to feel REAL stupid one day. I can just imagine them lying in their hospital beds dying of NOTHING. Rick.

:cross-eye :cross-eye :cross-eye OOOOOHHH, BOY. Here we go again !!! Look, let's face it. Any vehicle, be it a 22 wheel Semi or a pushbike, can be deadly in the hands of inexperienced drivers. Now, anyone who has been following this thread knows my thoughts on exceeding the posted speed limits. However, given a choice, I'd prefer to ride as a passenger in a car travelling at 110kph driven by an EXPERIENCED driver than 80kph by a NOVICE. It's the lack of proper TRAINING and EXPERIENCE that's ONE of the main causes of our youth losing their lives on the highway battlfield. And that makes me bloody  and with frustration because the politicians keep saying things must change but no politician is game to suggest any RADICAL changes because it would probably be political suicide to do so. Rick.
  6. :stupid: :stupid: :stupid: Thanks mate, I take it that all the instruments are lit. As I suggested before, could it be that the light is SUPPOSED to let the left foot see what the right foot is up to ????? Most more modern cars have courtesy lights. By the way, does the clock on the dash work ?? Mine didn't, the auto electrician didn't want to know about it so I took it in to the local watch maker. Due to the fact that it is an OLD clock, he was able to fix it. Cost me $120 but worth it to keep the original part. Rick.

Thanks for the advice fellas. We'll be caravanning all the way, joining the Spirit of Tas in Sydney. Today we received brochures, touring guides etc. for Tassy. The boss didn't tell me to expect them in the mail. Typical huh ??? No wonder I often refer to myself as a mushroom. Kept in the DARK and fed on bull s--t. One thing that isn't mentioned in the brochures is when the Jack Russell Olimpics is held. We'd love to see that. We own TWO of the Jacks and would consider entering one in the races if I was sure that she'd run in a straight line. Anyway, thanks again. Rick.

Symon, Here in the land of Oz we only drink COLD beer mate. 2005 Huh ?? Well, you should see quite a bit of the country. Lets see now, we've got Zed owners in West Oz, Queensland, South Oz, Victoria, New South Wales, (is there anyone in Tassie ?) and even New Zealand (but their not Oz). When it get's a bit closer to the time, let us know your itinerary. Some of us might be able to show you around. Rick. :devious: :devious:

  12. Hey, Justin, Perhaps the light was SUPPOSED to light up the floor area ????. Mate, the photo of the fuse box cover was a disaster. Being clear plastic with white lettering made it difficult for me to find a decent background. Anyway, here it is. I'll follow it up listing the fuse ratings etc. Rick.

Hey there Sean and Symon, I really didn't think you pair were those nationalities. Symon doesn't even sound like a spanish name and Sean sure isn't French. Thanks for the invite Symon but I guess I'll have to pass mate. It's a bit far to travel even if I took a long weekend. Glad to see you have a sense of humour, :devious: :devious: Rick.

G'Day there Rob, welcome to the club. Anything you want to know about Zeds is sure to be found here, Just ask the Question. Someone will give you the answer. Where specifics of the European model is needed, Alan T. is a fountain of knowledge. Regarding differences of models, I think you'll find there are differences in the Aussie models as well. Could be wrong though. :devious: :devious: Rick.
  15. Well, now, Justin, you just might be in luck mate. I had a film in the camera with a couple of shots left on it so I took the cover of my 8/74 260Z 2 str. then had fun trying to get a suitable background so the white lettering would show up on the clear plastic cover. If they turn out I'll post the pics on this thread tomorrow night. Fingers crossed. Don't think I can help out with the wiring diagram but the glove box in "Precious" does have a light in it, operated by a plunger type switch located top right corner of the glove box. Opening and closing of the trap door makes it go on and off. Ain't modern technology AMAAAAZING !!!!. :devious: :devious: Rick.

Excessive speed ???????????????? Well, now, Justin, bear in mind that I AM an old fart with slower reflexes and no need of thrills. I shuffle between 2nd and 3rd up and down the Mt. Morgan Range within the speed limit of 60kph. Believe me, faster than that would be accompanied by a death wish. Oh, I know blokes who have done it faster but the, every now and then the emergency services are called out to rescue someone who has driven his car off the edge. The State Forrest ???. Week days you'd have to be the unluckiest bloke in the world to get caught by the rangers. No one else is there during the week. I can get enough enjoyment from doing 60kph on a narrow dirt road to keep me happy. :devious: :devious: Rick.

WELL, I'll be a monkey's uncle, A bloke from France and a bloke from Spain on friendly terms !!!! Have care Alan, those two countries may be teaming up again. If this keeps up the Poms will have to resurect poor old Horatio Hornblower. :devious: :devious: Rick.

Here we go. Sean, I may be an old fart whose get up and go has just about got up and gone but there's still a spark or two left in my distributor. If I were to just drive around town or sit on the legal limit on the open road I'd agree with you, BORING !!!!! My favorite "drive" is about an hour away from home. It's called the Mount Morgan Range. Steep with sharp bends. Half an hour away is the State Forrest where a lot of fun can be had WITHOUT excessive speed. Rallies are generally held there. AHHHHH, now, JUSTIN my young friend. I knew you were only having a dig mate. So was I about the smilie. To your question. The first car I had was an old Austin A70. The original owner was a bloke named Noah who mainly used it to cart his family between his home and the Marina where he kept his boat, the Ark, moored. By the time I got it the poor old thing was clapped out and flat out at 35mph. Had to take the gear changes veeery slowly. If I was a bit rough on the changes, the whole collumn would turn, locking it in that gear until I could pull over. Had a lot of fun with that old car but she saw me through till I joined the Army then I didn't need a car. So, the answer's no mate, I was never a reckless, lead footed speedster high on petrol fumes but I sure had a lot of fun. Bear in mind that, Waaaay back then, most young blokes did'nt have their own cars. Normally you'd beg the "Old Man" to loan you his FJ and, being the "Old Man's", you mostly treated it with kid gloves if you hoped to ever borrow it again. The cars that were owned by young blokes were generally clunkers that were noisy petrol guzzlers that could have been used by the Navy to provide a smoke screen for an armada. Things really weren't that much different to today though. The blokes who had cars that were in reasonable nick would find a quiet stretch of road and have drags. They'd exceed the speed limit, they'd get caught, booked and fined, just like today, and the oldies would shake their heads and call them irresponsible larrikins. As I do now that I'm an old fart. :devious: :devious: Rick.

Ahhhhh, Justin, Perhaps you should also use the :devious: smiley as I do. No, I'm not perfect and, as I mentioned earlier in the thread, I don't even class myself as a GOOD driver, merely COMPETENT. Truthfully, yes, I have slipped above the limit on rare occassions around town only to drop back as soon as I realise it. On the open highway, only when overtaking and then, only when a passing lane is available or when I can see a clear road ahead then, having overtaken as safely as possible, I drop back to the regulated speed for that area. The "Other" car in the family is a series 3 AU Falcon whis is used for our frequent long trips. One of it's features is a warning BEEP that sounds whenever the speed setting is exceeded. I have it set for 100kph. However, under no circumstances would I deliberately and knowingly exceed the speed limit just to indulge myself with a cheap thrill. Now, THAT IS the voice of experience. :devious: :devious: :devious: Rick.

:classic: :classic: AAWWWW, Gee, fellas, just for once, I was serious. Datto Zed and datto-240z, Just as a point of interest, I have always refered to those who are so unfortunate as to live down at the BOTTOM of Australia as either Mexicans or Aztecs. :devious: :devious: :devious: Rick.

Be buggered if I'd pay that much for a Ute. :finger: If I had that much cash on hand I'd rather spend it on Precious. Although, come to think of it, She Who Must Be Obeyed might have plans of her own. Rick.
