5-lug nut conversion?
I've been Time Trialing a '69 Porsche 911E with the Porsche Owners Club here in So Cal for about 4 years running 15x7 5 lug nut wheels wearing 205 Toyo RA1's. I"m about to take the POC racers clinic to begin wheel to wheel club racing. Recently, I inherited a '70 240Z from my Father-In-Law and love it! I'm thinking of putting the Z on the track, getting my POC racers license, and then expanding my horizons with other vintage track clubs racing at Willow Springs, Streets of Willow, Buttonwillow and Cal Speedway. I'd like to upgrade to 15" wheels so I can run the Toyo's (until they're no longer avail) and then maybe go to those Spec Miata Hoosiers (if they'll fit under my stock fenders). So, I'm in the market for 15x7 wheels to fit my Z for track days. And if all Z's race with 4 lug nuts, that's good enough for me. What's the favorite track day wheel? Thanks.

5-lug nut conversion?
Just wondering how many people do this conversion from 4 lugs to 5 for racing. Thanks.

Racing Buckets For Street & Track Driving?
Just got my 240Z. Love the drive but the stock seats don't have enough any lateral support for hard cornering for me. Anyone out there driving the street in period racing buckets that you also use for track days? Thanks.

They are hubcaps. Not my taste but they're keepers for now.

Here are the pics. Excuse the filth. Rain washed the dirt in the cover onto the car. What type of wheels do I have? Are they from a 280Z? My F-I-L added those side moulding things. Can't wait to get rid of them. Plus, the car was originally green. Painted red some time in the '70's. Would love to get it back to green some time soon. Maybe add one of those front scoops too? Especially if I put the car on the track. Those are "round tops," yes? Thanks.

Very cool to begin my Z journey on this board. Great info. Many thanks to all. Right now, I've got the car under a cover and a tarp until the rain stops on Saturday (hopefully). At that time, I'll check on the carbs. (Knowing my father-in-law, who was quite demanding when it came to engine response and tuning, I'm figuring he has the round tops.) I also take a few pictures and post them. By the way, if you see me on the road, my license plate is "ZDONFLY." Don's my very cool F-I-L. I'm going to keep the plate even though my name's Sandy. I've already ordered the new retractable seatbelts from Motorsport Auto. That will be my first installation experiment. I'll start with the passenger side. Make my mistakes. Fix my mistakes. Then be able to do the drivers side the right way the first time. As for owning an early 911 and the Z, my first thoughts when driving the Z home from Santa Barbara was realizing how much effort it takes to drive my 911E. But then my 911E has a very aggressive set-up for street and track including a factory LSD. But it was the huge difference in HP that got me smiling. They say it's fun to drive a slow car fast. Then you get in a fast car and wonder why. I can already envision myself heading into Turn 9 at Willow Springs in the Z. After some serious track prep and improvements. Having a great time admiring everyone's car on this board. Dave -- Thanks for the tips on the upgrades. I'm going to check to see if any of those things have been done. When I make my decision on the wheels and tires, that's when I'll probably do the brake upgrade. Mike -- Thanks for the tip on the shop in Canoga Park. I've found that the best mechanics are never cheap. But if you create a relationship over time, some times they give you a break. Of course, if Otto had kids, I would have put them through college by now. Hey Mitchell -- your wheel/tire set-up is very cool. Are those the 15" MSA "Flashback" wheels? What size tires do you run? Again, thanks to all. You'll be hearing from me soon.

Excuse my lack of knowledge but... What are "round tops?"

Cool. Thanks. I saw that set offered. I'm going to purchase (2). My first step down the slippery slope...

My problem is that I'm DIY-challenged. I'm the kind of guy who screws up the job and breaks the tools. And I'm picky too. My daily driver is a '69 Porsche 911E. I've got a world class mechanic (Otto's Venice) who wrenches it because I track the car regularly at Willow Springs & Cal Speedway with the Porsche Owners Club. I'm looking for someone to inject a little black magic into my Z the way Otto does with my Porsche. By the way, this Z is WAY faster than my Porsche. Fun!

Cool. Thanks. Will starting searching. Have you ever bought anything from motorsportauto.com? They seem to have a ton of stuff for Z's.

Another New Guy -- ME!
Hello to all. My first post. My first 240Z. A gift from my father-in-law. He purchased it new in 1970. Upgraded to a 260 engine some time in the '70's. (Have to go through the receipts.) The car is terrific. Drove it home today. I know nothing about Z-cars. Here are the first of many stupid newbie questions -- 1.) Recommendations on mechanics in West L.A. or the SF Valley who know these cars inside and out. I'm not much a DIY guy. I like to find an excellent mechanic I can trust to get the job done right the first time. 2.) Wheels on my car are 14". I guess they're six inches wide? I know the tire selection for 14" is basically non-existent. Are there 15" or even 16" wheels for these early Z's? And how wide can I go with my tires without rubbing on the stock fenders? 205's? Wider? 3.) Brake upgrades? If I go to bigger wheels, is there a simple solution to a brake upgrade from a later model Z? 4.) Seat belts. My father-in-law removed the fixed shoulder belt thirty years ago and drove with just a lap belt (he raced Corvettes in the late '50's with a lap belt so it felt natural). I'd like to retrofit retractable 3-point belts into the car as soon as possible. Ideas on this? Thanks for the help. I'll need plenty.
