  1. Thanks Carl, That's what I was thinking, lots of mice around ,she' stored at a friends farm, in a nice barn with concrete floor. I've not had mice trouble before. I can't really speculate too much on the damage, but I'm already searching for dash harnesses!
  2. Well we finally had a nice day so I decided to get the old girl out of storage. After hooking up the battery and checking fluids she fired right up! As I was topping up the clutch master (slave cylinder is leaking and WAS first on the list of jobs), my son says "dad there's smoke coming from the starter." I look and sure enough the fusible link is smoking. My heart dropped as I looked to the cabin and its FULL of smoke. As quick as I can I shut her down and disconnect the battery, but it appears the damage is done. I haven't had a chance to investigate, car will be towed home today, but a preliminary look revealed melting of wires coming out of steering column, leading to fuse block, as well as melting of a major connector to the right of the center console. Don't think this will be a quick or easy fix:cry:
  3. I definitely prefer a dark blue on the zed. I may be biased, but I will be going for the original 903 blue on my '71 .Some time in the future of course!
  4. Hey, that's the closest vin I've seen to my #15721 ,also blue on blue! Glad to see another early Zed in caring hands! What's the name of your band? Mark
  5. Fantastic! Great to see cars still being used for the original purpose! I assume that is one of the original factory rally cars, do anyone know its' history?
  6. Well, you do live on an island! I imagine shipping costs are a big reason you pay more. We produce the stuff right here, the oilsands are only 150 miles from here!
  7. Price here in Edmonton is $1.06/litre,wish I could test the fuel consumption but probably another month and a half before she comes out of storage!
  8. Went out to my storage place for the zed to view the damage from a farm truck backing into her! Not as bad as I feared, about a 4 inch scratch on the hood which gouged the metal, and a gouge in the rear bumper rubber trim. Perhaps this is the push I needed to get her painted properly! Only 3 more months before she can come out of the barn again!
  9. Welcome to the club. Nice to see another Z in Alberta! Enjoy the 5 month driving season!
  10. Hopefully Vancouver can finish it off Tuesday, I think we can beat Tampa or Boston, 40 years of frustration almost over? Don't be too hard on the Sharks, one goal during that first stretch of penalties to Van would have been a different story!
  11. Reassembled left rear, after reefing down the gland nut with a big pipe wrench, the clunk is gone! between that and the Canucks taking game 4,it's been a great day!
  12. Not many hockey fans out there I guess! Oh well, I thouroughly enjoyed watching the 'nucks take it 4 to2! Then I reassembled my leftf rear strut, test drive, and the clunk is gone!! A great day all around!
  13. Born and raised in BC! Was 8 yrs old in Vancouver when "nucks joined the league, been a fan ever since!
  14. Suspension work will have to wait a couple of hours, Just about time to watch my Canucks put another nail in Sharks coffin ! Enjoy the game down there in CA!
  15. Okay I got the insert out, it's a yellow bilstein. I can wiggle the shaft slightly while just holding it with both hands, does this indicate abnormal wear? Cannot move the strut up and down by hand.
  16. Thanks for the reply, I didn't want to mangle the nut, how much force should be required to move the nut?
  17. Okay, I have a clunk from left rear suspension, I have removed strut assembly from car except for the transverse link , and removed spring. The strut cartridge can be moved slightly side to side by hand, which makes a small thunking sound, cannot move it up and down by hand, could this be the problem? The gland nut has a few threads showing. The nut is round with 2 notches cut in the top, I assume there is a special wrench to tighten this, anyone know what its called and where to acquire one? Any thoughts on if a slight side to side movement could cause the problem? Thanks for any advice!
  18. Our thoughts and prayers are with you as you cope with this tragedy. It is sobering to realize just how helpless we are in the face of the natural forces at work on our planet. Mark Smith
  19. Just added #15721 build 12/70.Blue on Blue, not too many near me (geograpically that is)
  20. My greatest acheivement in gaming was winning a 5 lap race at Monza in a Lotus 49,I had to put Denny Hulme over the rail at Curva Grande at 180 mph to do it! What fun!
  21. I can't wait to play this game! My kids will have to share gaming time ! Speaking of driving simulations, did you ever play Grand Prix Legends? It was a true driving simulation with adjustable tire pressure, castor, camber diff ratios etc. Based on the 1967 grand prix season with every car on the grid simulated!400 bhp on skinnny bias ply tires it was fiendishly difficult It was PC based and no longer runs on my computer, I still miss it!
  22. Just going thru documentation for #15721 and thought I'd post a pic of the original Warranty Service card! I have the service booklet( all service intervals filled out!) and the original owners manual:cool:. Looks like Robert Allen of Poway CA was the original owner. I think the 2nd owner was Ernest W Taylor of San Diego, I have a pile of receipts from a San Diego Datsun dealer as well as Rising Sun Datsun in his name. I believe I am 4th owner, and the car has 83xxx original miles, but can't prove it! Any suggestions on how to track down these 2 owners?
  23. Got mine today! Thanks for arranging another run Dave! Now to find time for the install! Mark
