  1. Thanks for the replies, going to buy a compression tester today and start there. Sorry for the error in the title, it is a no fire condition, the engine starts much more easily now, but three and four are dead. I confirmed plug leads are wired correctly, and fit tightly. There is a good spark at the wire, cap and rotor are in good shape.Nothing was changed except for the valve lash so I am stumped as to why these cylinders suddenly stopped firing. Will post compression results hopefully tonite after work.
  2. So I finally got time to work on the car. I had not been driving it as it was getting progressively harder and harder to start when cold. Cap ,rotor, wires , and plugs are all in good shape. I decided to adjust the valve clearance and wow am I glad I did! The valves were all tight, only one had any play with the cam lobe straight up. Adjusted intakes to.20 mm and exhaust to .25mm. Put her all back together and she fired up straight away! Unbelievable in my book especially as # 3 and 4 are not firing! I verified there is good spark at the wire, Is it possible I screwed up the adjustment so bad on those two that they won't even fire? I'm pretty sure I didn't, but I can't think of any other possibilities as they fired before the adjustment. Any thoughts?
  3. Sorry, mis read the ad It's not 0001 but 1xxx ! My Bad
  4. This guy claims he has #0001 ! Looks like it needs some work though!LOLhttp://ontario.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-classic-cars-1970-Datsun-Z-Series-Coupe-W0QQAdIdZ402227358
  5. Hey all, hope this link works! Here's a nice zed for sale in Kelowna BC. I've admired this car for a while now, I see it occasionally when I return home to Kelowna. Too bad I don't have the cash at the moment! http://vancouver.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-cars-trucks-1973-Datsun-240-Z-W0QQAdIdZ402749411
  6. I spy a red 280Z just a block over from my house in Beaumont Alberta. Its got wide flares and center line rims and a hood scoop. Probably a V 8 conversion. Hasn't moved in a while, looks to be fairly scruffy!
  7. The link you provided is for vacuum bypass caps, not coolant! Probably why they kept bursting.
  8. I would definitely be interested in buying a set if not too costly. Any idea of a ballpark figure? My panels are still on the car but look like they may be warped. Mark
  9. Oh well, I guess you don't see it anyway. I'll just store the old unit away with it's cover, in case I want to go back to totally original!
  10. I just installed the MSA fuse box in my 71 Z, but the original cover does not fit. Is there a way to use the original cover with this new unit? It appears to have mounting holes pre-drilled in the inside of the box for something but no other pieces were included. Thanks for any insights Mark
  11. I like the look of this unit, and my electrical guy was very impressed with the quality and innovation of the product.
  12. Well I'm back in business:)! Got the car back from my electrical guy, he pulled the dash and split the harness open to replace two main power wires and some connectors. Got him to install rebuilt clock, MSA blade fusebox, and my Retrosound stereo as well. Everything is working now! Going to add sound insulation before re installing the interior. I'm also thinking of coating the backs of the plastic panels with bed liner to eliminate squeaks. Here are a couple pics of the new stereo.
  13. Ok! Sorry for the typos in the last post, I was on my phone. The ad is on page 161 of the magazine. Phone number is 01787210513. Also a Alfa Romeo 1600, BMW Schnitzer and a Landrover Defender for sale. Beautiful looking 260 you have! Would love to see some pictures! Mark
  14. I do not have scan capability! The car was in the back of the lasT Motorsport, theVilleneuve edition. There was an ad for a private collection for sale. I will post contact info when I get homr
  15. Welcome to the site! As you probably know there are lots of knowledgable peopeple here who are more than willing to help.Post some more pictures when you get time. Mark
  16. Thanks for the links! I know of Big Sam, but I had never heard of the Super Samuri Zeds. This car in Motor Sport has just had a 20,000 pound restoration, and the asking price is 24,000. Good thing I live on this side of the pond, or I would be sorely tempted
  17. Hey, just reading the latest issue of Motor Sport magazine and noticed an ad on page 161 for a Datsun 240Z "super samurai":ermm:, whatever that is. Must be pretty nice because the seller is asking 24,000 pounds! Anyone know anything about this car?
  18. Just an update if anyone is interested, I found a shop here in Edmonton who specialize in restoration work. Since I have neither the time nor patience and especially no expertise, I have taken the car to them! The owner is going to restore my harness to original condition. I pulled most of the interior to expose the wiring and left him to it! I will be researching sound proofing here since that might as well be done while the interior is out. Mark
  19. What a blast that must have been! Bathurst looks like like a fantastic venue! Makes me long for the days of Westwood in Vancouver, nothing like Bathurst of course but a challenging circuit.Hope you had a great time! Mark
  20. Yeah, I was excited to find my warranty card and service book in the papers with the car, but apparently they are fairly common. Still neat though!
  21. Thanks for the link! I know of one I'll need so far.
  22. Quick update, got the car home and a preliminary look revealed the probable cause, partially my own stupidity. I found a broken tie wrap on drivers side floor right against transmission tunnel. This was presumably holding the choke cables in some way and it broke when I applied choke to start the car. This allowed the choke cable to come in contact with the left side of the fuse holder for the 20A fuse at the top left of the fuse box because "someone" stupidly left the cover off! Don't know if that makes me feel better or worse! Hopefully I'll be able to repair the harness. Won't be able to get to it til this weekend at least.
  23. Thanks for the support! This harness had also been hacked for fog lights, aftermarket cruise control and an incredibly hamfisted stereo install! Still, it functioned with no problems until this happened! Okay, so the washer bottle didn't wash and the dome light didn't light, but it gave no indication that this could happen! I'm sure with all the offers of support that I'll get her back running!
  24. Thanks Jim, I'll be in touch when I know more, Probably late this week. Mark
  25. Thanks Dave, I'll do that. Getting off work in a couple of hours, then a call to AMA for a "free" tow!
