  1. I must have been writing when you posted your next message but consider me 'in'
  2. I don't know if it's just the photos but I think I like the border reflections. I'm not sure how to describe it, it's an eye catcher. I bet it sparkles around the letters as you walk by in sunlight By the way, the font looks great! I've never looked through a mylar banner, is it see-through? Having the vinyl letters shouldn't be too distracting I think. I have a window banner on my car now and I hardly notice it Pretty easy to install?

Hi Jim, I was just at John's today, we were doing a carb balance on his 240. It makes me want a Rebello I think a get together is a great idea! I just need for Summit to send me my new header gasket :stupid:
  4. Since I went through getting my car running the last few months, I also would recommend that you watch your fuel pressure at the carburetors to be sure the fuel is making it to them. I do agree to check your ignition components. Make sure the points have no pitting Just curious, are using the choke when you're starting the car with the round tops?

Hey Adam, it's the original brown metallic code 114 with the Butterscotch interior. I think it had a respray sometime in the 80s but I'm not sure of the timing. I found a company yesterday that does old school bucket seats tastefully so I may swap to some black vinyl/leatherette buckets sometime in the future. I'd like to preserve my seats since we can't get covers (accurate looking ones) very easily. funny, I just answered in the tire/wheel post before seeing this The gold rewinds on your car look awesome! It's great we have twin paint codes (though mine is still single stage) and twin interiors but our cars still came out pretty different

Adam I forgot you put the Gold wheels on your car. I really like how they go with out paint color. I am looking at some 16" Sportmax XXR wheels that come in both flat black and gold. I was set on the flat black but I am definitely reconsidering the Gold. I actually have 205/60R14 tires on my car right now. I like the 205 width because it doesn't look as skinny but isn't over the top... plus it fits the width of my current wheels. I plan on eventually going with the 16x8 so I'll be rolling on 225/50R16's. 225 width is aggressive without being too crazy, it has a good look and nice traction
  7. I have a 73 so the threads on my fitting are 1/2 NPT (1/2" pipe). I used teflon tape and a pipe plug so solve my problem. I believe earlier models use British pipe threads but I am not sure of the exact size. I believe there is some discussion of this in the Ztherapy Excitement thread a couple posts down from this

I haven't really used FM radio for a couple years now. I have had Sirius satellite for a while now and I play music from the iphone. Satellite radio saved my sanity on my daily commute. The iphone is my phone so I'm not leaving it in my car. I'd be asking for trouble anywhere, and especially where I work in Emeryville/Oakland if I left an ipod out in the open I think an 8 gig memory stick on shuffle will last longer than any tank of gas. I have nearly 800 songs on my phone and can leave it on shuffle all week while I'm driving and working, and never run out of music
  9. Not meaning to hijack this thread but I did some work on the header today at my friend's shop. Also still waiting on the gaskets from Summit... Anyway, used an N47 head at the shop and didn't damage it either thankfully. I tacked the 2nd primary back to the middle two. We also used the torch so I could twist and straighten the flange on the 5th primary. That manhole cover also jarred things more than I thought. I had to weld up the collector flange. It's not my best work but I wanted to do light tacks to avoid burning through the old pipe I think I'll be able to save my header

I can understand that too. I rode back in my friend's 71 Celica from JCCS and it was pretty miserable without the heater. We had fresh air coming in through various holes in the firewall, I thought my legs were going to freeze. just giving you a hard time though It'll be cool to see your car, I noticed mention of Rebello yesterday when I was doing my own searching on cams and head porting.

Either way you'll probably enjoy it. Fog-X, Rain-X, and a warm sweatshirt and you run out of excuses pretty quickly
  12. No worries, better to have the correct term. It's all good information and yes, not changing the coolant at good intervals can contribute to the problem

Sunny bought everything T3 sells except the Q45 rear end conversion. He got their sleeves, coils, weld-in camber plates, control arms, TC rods, bushings, and he ordered the HTS shocks from JohnC (Beta Motorsports). It's all really nice stuff For now, I am just doing the sectioning on some struts I got used. For now I'm also not going with camber plates that require cutting. I'm going with more incremental changes as the funds and priorities change. I checked the thread on 1stGenCelica and the date is set to the last Friday of each month (1/29) and is going to be at SeaFood City 2030 Diamond Blvd Concord, CA 94520 It's where the Circuit City was across from the Willows. I'm not sure if I'll have my header gasket to get the car back together but I hear there was a good turnout last month considering it was the first time

Actually funny you should ask because I haven't finished my coilovers yet so I was riding on my old, stock, saggy suspension. The only thing I had time to do regarding the handling has been the Energy steering rack bushings. It was a Bob's Donuts event on somewhat short notice and I didn't want to miss it so I said what the heck I'll run it. Thill is a big horsepower track and I was topping out in 3rd for some of it. The front straight is an easy 100mph and more if your nerves can take it. As far as the important stuff goes, ie, the corners, it did surprisingly well. Thunderhill has a little of everything but it really leeeeaaannnns over in the tight stuff on worn out shocks and old springs. I liked how composed it stayed and predictable. I kicked out the rear on a 3-2 downshift going through turn 11 but was pretty easily able to control the oversteer with the gas. This was my first full track event so I was playing it cool mostly. I've done AutoX in my friend's car and RallyX. I really want to try Buttonwillow now, it's not as spread out and no scary hill crests. I am already hooked so be careful :stupid:

I'll make the drive as soon I get my exhaust back together. I bottomed out in a gas station going to Thunderhill the other weekend and that created a big leak at the 2nd cylinder header flange. My friend is doing Techno Toy suspension on his car now so I might be able to get second Z rolling through whenever he gets his car back together. My friends on 1stGenCelica are trying to organize an east bay meet in Concord. They did one last month and more people showed than expected. They are shooting for one Friday each month so it doesn't interfere with the Thursday meet
  16. Do you think a ground strap on the radiator might have helped here? I know on newer cars that suffer from electrolysis in the cooling system and heater core, that is something that is used (probably along with fresh coolant). I've also searched about these Champion radiators with not much luck. Thanks for posting!

Welcome! Nice car, I like that color! I'm up in the east bay, went to San Jose State down there so Cupertino is a familiar place. I used to golf weekends at Sunken Gardens and Black Berry Farms, cheaper 9-hole courses on a college student budget. I tried to go to the South Bay meet before Christmas but my alternator went kaput in Hayward so it didn't quite make it :stupid: Not sure about this month either because I'm waiting for Summit to get their header gaskets back in stock. I heard the meet is already big and is getting bigger every month!
  18. This almost makes me glad I haven't had time to install mine. This latest info here is GREAT information. I am definitely going to be keeping the bump stop oversized when I do mine.
  19. I ordered a couple of these Hooker gaskets tonight. I am curious how they'll look, mine also says estimated ship date is 1/22 The header and old gasket came off pretty quickly. This was actually 2 MSA gaskets glued together and the 2nd primary pretty much blow torched the gasket after I bottomed out. I played a little with my C-clamps today and it looks like I just need to raise the 2nd primary up to the same level and plane as the middle two and it should seal normally. I also noticed the fuel line to the rear carb looked like it saw some real heat, the surface was glazed over and turning yellow-ish like it had started to melt. I'm glad it didn't melt all the way through, could've been pretty bad. I also was looking under the car at my vapor lines and noticed a size-able dent in my glass pack... it's really no wonder it knocked the gasket loose. Not only did that man hole bang a dent in the Summit glass pack, it nailed it on the leading edge so I'm sure it really jarred the whole exhaust.

    Thanks!
  21. Thanks, I like that idea. My friend has a nice TIG and MIG at his shop (much better than my 110 mig). Part of the challenge is a couple of the primaries have settled up/down from the rest. It doesn't actually take much muscle to line it up. I think I'll be able to make it work with a little creativity and make it look good. I'd like to save it if I can since they aren't around anymore and it's a good looking header
  22. Carl, I have a FEP60SV Facet in the back of my '73 running as a feed for the mechanical. When you run the Facet pump as the only pump, do you close / clamp off the return line? I'd like to eliminate the mechanical pump but was hesitant to block the return line By the way, the Facet is a very quiet pump, just a faint thunk noise from the back while it's pumping. The first one I had was burned up when my voltage regulator failed but it was an unbranded Facet. It was labeled a Purolator, and was much cheaper than the Facet branded pump. Both were Made in USA surprisingly enough. I believe Facet is owned by Purolator now. My friend's tell me Facet's were the pumps to have back in the day when they were running their 510's and 18RG Celica's.

Zedyone, I'd like to see pictures when you have it installed. Ever since my voltage regulator problem back in October, my original radio has not been the same (minimal output). I am tossing around ideas and am thinking about the Autosound as an option along with MSA's rear speaker panel. I like the inputs because that means I can use my Sirius from my Honda or plug in my iphone. Having spent 2 entire weekends under my dash doing electrical work, I can say our Z's don't need a lot of speaker to sound good. I dragged my old harmon kardon computer speakers w/sub out and they had no problem filling the car with good sound at pretty low volume levels. I think a couple 6x9's would do nicely, even running on deck power I can't remember... Does anyone know if our power antenna switch integrated into the stock radio or is the switch separate from the deck? My antenna still works
  24. At this point I might order 2 :stupid: As you can see in the picture, a previous owner cut between each primary. I got it sealed nicely the last time but I think this time I'll be using some flat steel to line everything up and tack the flange back together. It is leaking at the number 2 cylinder now. That night you could see the blue flame shooting straight on the fuel line. We think it may have been causing some vapor locking problems, the fuel line was too hot to touch for long (even with the heat wrap). The car wouldn't rev past 2500 until we crushed some aluminum cans and placed them on the intake blocking the heat. Also had to block the return line before it drove like normal again for the return trip. All that aside, Thunderhill was a lot of fun, and I can't wait to try Buttonwillow I drove it on the stock suspension since I haven't finished the coilovers
  25. Awesome, sounds good Arne!
