What size Watanabe are these?
I know 16x8 0 offset fits on the 240 without much trouble. With coilovers, no flares, do you know if the 16x9 -13 will fit in the rear? I thought I needed a +6 or +13 to a 9" wide rear wheel, if it fits at all... thanks!

Packing tape on paint
I agree, try the WD40, and give it a little soak time. I use it for tree sap all the time. I take a blue shop towel off the roll, spray some on the towel, then spray a little directly on the sap. I dab a little a let it sit a minute. I start scrubbing with the blue towel. It takes some time but I have cleaned off some messy, gooey tree sap this way. (I know you're working with adhesive but I thought I'd tell you how I did it with sap) My experience with Tar and Sap remover is that it removed more paint than sap. I still have a full bottle of it because of this problem. Be careful with Goof off, it WILL take off paint. Goo Gone will too but to a lesser degree.

Need muffler recommendations
I agree with everything Beandip wrote. With the stock manifold a 40 series is not loud at all. With the header, I had to add a glass pack in the middle of my exhaust. Here's my thread, currently just below this if you're curious to hear the flow with the glass pack. (Post #9 has my digi cam movies, turn on your subwoofer ) http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35814

First Drive!
92 to 35 to 84? Did you stop at Alices? I've eaten there while on the motorcycle a few times. I'd be curious to see how my car over there. Bet you had a fantastic time and the weather was perfect for it! Be careful how aggressive you get while the pads are wearing in. When I was still working at the shop during college I saw cars come back with the friction material cracked/fractured because they decided to slam on the brakes to break them in. Well, they broke them all right :stupid:

Strange noise in a 240Z
Does it still make the noise when you put it in neutral and release the clutch at the same speed (70 mph or whatever speed you're going)? What you're describing sounds more like a 5th gear problem than anything else. If you maintain the speed at which you hear the noise, and downshift to 4th, does the symptom go away? If the symptom persists, check your driveline and make sure it's tight. Inspect the condition of the u-joints.

5th Annual Japanese Classic Car Show
Gosh I'm terrible with names... I just replied to your pic thread in the JNC forum and remembered someone had posted here before the show :stupid: As Ron got to hear about, my car didn't quite make it. I'm glad one of my friends had AAA Premium, I nearly had to pay for a 120 mile tow Ron, my friends were still talking about your race videos at dinner. They thought the Roadster videos were pretty awesome. Btw, your car smelled great when you started it!

R200: How much slop is too much?
 I don't know what kind of wear you'll see with that kind of mileage. OE gears are typically very resistant to wear exceeding a light polishing. If I were sure the noise wasn't coming from another source (wheel bearings, transmission, simple tire noise), I would bet on carrier bearings or pinion bearing before condemning the gear set. Sure thing Jon, I'll remember you know how to build a Toyota 3rd member when I need to do my Toyota elockers You might like this site.... http://gearinstalls.com/ ...I've read a LOT on the elockers there. I might have to steal his design for his tools

Resonator and glass pack questions
I like the idea of stainless but right now it's pretty cost prohibitive. Stainless in my experience is typically quieter than the equivalent aluminized steel version. I agree resonators are better for flow but I wasn't sure if one would cut enough volume. I will do something better when funds permit but I need to be patient. I still like idea of recreating the Clifford system since that is my header but I am happy with the current sound. I like the idea of old-school cool The glass pack was a $20 fix from Summit that I welded in myself. Everything else was going to cost more and I'm on a limited budget since I've been saving for the JCCS trip (http://www.japaneseclassiccarshow.com/).

R200: How much slop is too much?
I have to agree. In my time hanging out at my friend's shop, it takes a serious amount of abuse to harm the R200. They are running 250-350 (dyno'ed) whp in their SR powered drift cars. I have seen 2 wasted but it was serious carnage when the spiders exploded and punched a hole in the cover. They were both welded diffs. Jon knows differentials, that is his business. I would trust his opinion. A mag base and a dial indicator are good investments if you really want to inspect your gears. Not to say worn gears aren't a possibility but measuring will certainly answer your question. Does your car have a lot of miles?

Resonator and glass pack questions
Thanks, Steve. I've thought about changing the entire muffler and tip when funds allow. Currently the tip ends at the edge of my bumper. From what I've heard from my friends the flowmasters generally drone on 4 and 6 cylinder inlines. I guess I was just thinking longer tip meant less fumes in the car. Strangely enough, a muffler in the absolute rear of the exhaust is still new to me.

I found this when I was picking up my front plate to store. I never even noticed the bracket that was attached to it until today

R200: How much slop is too much?
It's not a dumb question, but it is hard to answer "feel" and "noise" type questions. Lots of variables combined with differences in perception. An inch at the circumference of the tire doesn't seem unheard of to me. Lots of tolerances are stacking when you rotate the tire back and forth depending on what stops your rotation. Are you waiting for the pinion to turn or waiting for the drive shaft to stop the rotation? You're really only seeing 4-5 degrees of rotation. You have the u-joints on both sides plus the backlash in the gears. Also depending on how you're doing this, you're taking up slack in your driveline as well. I also would wager that you're seeing more slop from that u-joint than you might think. You get a lot more torque turning the tire than twisting on a half shaft If I were curious about the play in my diff, I would put the car on the lift or jack stands and get myself under the car. I spent a good amount of time under it yesterday, and if I recall correctly, there is enough room to reach in and grab the diff flanges. I would hold one flange and try to rotate the other. Being under the car I would be able to see the pinion flange move, and feel what the diff actually feels like. I glanced at the other thread about the noise. It's common for gears to make noise on decel. Does the noise persist when you coast in neutral (on the freeway or wherever you hear the noise)? If the noise goes away in neutral, I would be looking at the transmission before the diff. If I were convinced my diff was on its way out, I would start watching Craigslist, classifieds, or the local wrecking yards for another R200. Everything I've seen tells me the R200 takes a lot of abuse so I wouldn't be too concerned about buying a used one

Resonator and glass pack questions
Here's what I have so far... sorry, not sure if the audio is quiet or not... through my stereo with subwoofer, this sounds pretty accurate I'm officially another guy on the internet that starts his car and revs the engine for the camera :stupid: http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v283/70CamGuy/240Z/?action=view¤t=MVI_0287.flv Getting on the freeway, camera work is not ideal but we're here for the sound... http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v283/70CamGuy/240Z/?action=view¤t=MVI_0288.flv Cruising at 70-75 on the freeway and still getting passed. Some might notice the tach is working here. The drone doesn't seem that bad on camera but I couldn't hear the radio and could barely hear my bluetooth http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v283/70CamGuy/240Z/?action=view¤t=MVI_0289.flv Fast forward 24 hours and I've added Summit's 12" glass pack, painted the flowmaster flat black, and cleaned the chrome tip (also an oil change and electric fuel pump). The result is much quieter, almost a more refined sound. I am VERY happy with the result. It still sounds good and I can hear my stock 1 speaker radio again. I was hoping the mic would be sensitive to the volume difference but it's more subtle in the video http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v283/70CamGuy/240Z/?action=view¤t=MVI_0290.flv It's been a long weekend so I haven't had time to do an "after" driving video. Hope you guys like it
