i wasnt taking credit for it, , just suggesting it to samzhot240 since no one had. I'm new to z's and not a mechanic by any means so I figured I would throw in my two cents to see if i could help him out.

I have a very similar problem with mine. I know its not correcting the problem but it stops mine from grinding. Step on clutch, shift into first then go into reverse. don't move the car though, just work the shifter through 1st gear first before going into reverse. it stopped my grinding completely. like i said it doesn't correct the problem but it stops that awful grinding.
  4. the past few days i have been turning the car on and checking when exactly it begins to sputter and stall. it seems to always happen right at about the time the temp. gauge reads dead center. thats with nothing turned on other than radio. if i turn on a/c or even the headlights, it tends to speed up when it sputters and stalls. it seems that when the engine gets added stain it speeds up the process of when it sputters and stalls.taking it in to a z specialist this week so hopefully he can figure it out.thx for all those who tried.i will keep u informed of what it is.
  5. ezzzzzzz, i'm sorry i forgot that part. its a 1973 240z. i'm not a mechanic by any means, but i just replaced the front fuel pump and filter the other day. is there a chance that it could be the rear fuel filter or pump. initially i thought it was a problem related to the new a/c since i have it on when's happened in the past, being in florida i usually drive with a/c turned on. but today i turned the car on and left it running without the a/c on. i had the same results, it just took a longer time to get to that point when it stalls.
  6. Recently replaced the old piston a/c compressor with a new rotary compressor. my z runs fine and idles at around 900-1000rpms with the a/c off. after running the a/c for about 15-20 minutes and i stop at a light or the car is left idle rpm drops to about 4-500 and eventually stalls out. don't know if this changes anything but the fuel pump was also replaced and had an electronic ignition installed as well. had the problem before I changed them but it still doing it now. any ideas, please help.

Hey srbigbutt, what tires do you run with those and do you have any problems with rubbing. and i have to agree with adamr they do look really good. nice!! I actually ended up picking up a set of 16x8 enkei's that look pretty good on the car.bought them used for relatively cheap so i might hold on to them for a while until i find the right set of rims that i like.

i was also told that i can use the components from a later 280z. would i get the same benefits from the 280z components as pertronix claims. the increased horse power and better fuel efficiency, etc...

I was wondering if anyone could help. I recently starting thinking about changing over to an electronic ignition. My question is what is the difference between XR700 Electronic Ignition System and PerTronix Ignition Kit and which is a better way for me to go. The two that I have seen are very similar in price so that is not a factor. thx in advance for your help.

i called and couldn't find any in any size.. so i gave up on those for now and have been searching for alternatives. i finally found a company, Centerline wheels, that has several different models of rims they claim direct fit onto a 73 z. Luckily I have a location right near my house so come monday i will stopping in. if what they advertise on net is correct, i will probably go with them depending on price of course.hey adamr is that your orange z. i just bought an orange one two weeks ago. paint is actually pretty good but i was considering restoring the orange or changing to a different color.
