Hey guys, new to the forum and the world of Z's but not new to the world of wrenching. Just bought a '72 240 that needs a little bit of attention body-wise and interior-wise. The PO decided to "lighten it up" for drifting or some b.s. by taking out the back interior pieces which I think is about the dumbest thing you could do to one of these classic cars, I saved this one from demise A little about myself; I live in Wichita, Kansas and grew up in Oklahoma on a farm, my old man is a mechanic so I grew up in the shop. I ran my own small engine/ATV/motorcycle/boat motor repair shop from junior high through college. Also worked in a machine shop that whole time as well. I am now a Mechanical Engineer. I have waaaaayyy too many toys, ranging from antique tractors and garden tractors to a 1953 M38A1 Willys military jeep (notice how I don't capitalize jeep, the new Jeeps aren't anything compared to what they once were), also have a '72 Wesco flat bottom drag boat with a Chevy skinny block, also have a '78 Chevy half ton with a fuel injected small block, fourwheelers, jet ski's etc... So anyway, glad to be part of the forum and would like to thank you all in advance. Justin

Hi guys, new to the forum and the world of Z's. Ok so here is the deal, have a 72 240Z, has mechanical and electric fuel pump, the PO installed the electric fuel pump in the place of the fuel filter. I am in the process of doing the wiring mod to install the pump at the tank where it is supposed to be. Now for the knowledge tapping part, the tank does not seem to be venting, I drive the car about a mile and the car will die and the fuel pump will rattle (like it does if it doesn't have any fuel in it), I can leave the key on and go back and open the fuel tank cap and it will suck in air when I take it off and the fuel pump will quiet down as it draws fuel. My question, is there a vent line for the tank or is the cap supposed to be vented? If there is a vent line where does it pull its air from and are there any commonly plugged areas? Thanks Justin
