Joe: I agree with Bruce, I am going though the same thing you are, I got my car two years ago and I am barely getting started; however fortunately I have been around Datsuns all my life, so I know that these cars are very forgiving and user friendly. Taking all appart came to my mind for a few days, but then it became an overwhelming thought, so now I am going one step backward, and decided not to take anything appart until I am able to take the car for a spin around the block. Keep in mind my car had not been used for at least ten years, before I got it, and when I finally cranked it, the engine came to life with out hesitation, and even my carbs seem to be doing their job so far...hope this helps.

welcome and congrats on you car! I believe that these cars were made to last, case in point, my 260 was stored for the last 12 years, the odometer reads 58k, but I think is about 158k total miles. after just changing the oil and plugs, the car started right up, at first it smoked for a few days, but now the smoke is gone, maybe you should just rebuild the head for now and then estimate the extent on the wear on the whole engine.

Your car looks great, I like the first pic as well. I am a purist myself so I can relate to you wanting to restore it. I have yet to drive my 260Z, but I am really looking forward to driving with carbs again!- "New" 73 240Z question...and Hello
Your car looks great, I also got my 260Z as a b-day present a couple of years ago and although is not restored the cas was purchased from the original owner! I am a new member here and I agree that this is a great community of Z owners, I've also read some great advice and tech tips as well. Z-ya- Finish it... time to enjoy now

Hi Nate, welcome to the club! I am a new member as well, in Pomona! It's never too late to get started on any project, specially on a "Z"! It only took me nearly a year to get started on mine, which I got as a gift. Keep in mind that regardless of how much bidy work your car may need, we are lucky to have more than a few resources to find parts for out cars. Good luck and welcome once again! I will be posting some pics in the near future as well...!- SU's driving me crazy!
I was havig a similar problem with the carbs on my 74 260Z, gas was leaking out from the carbs. All I did was to add oil to them, in the dampening chambers, do you have these? just a thought. good luck!- Nissan Museum
Hi Mel, I just joined this forum and saw your message, do you happen to have the address/name of this place, I live in Pomona and would be great to take a trip to this museum. Z-ya- Exited new member
Hello everyone, I am very excited to be here. I am in Pomona, California, and proud second owner of a 1974 260Z, that a good friend and sons got for my b-day a couple of years ago. My car need less to say is 100% original, and aside from a few nicks and dings the paint seems to be in good condition. So far I have focused on the mechanics of it, but I hope to soon be able to attend and participate in local Datsun/Nissan car shows, and hopefully I can show my car as an unrestored original. Hope to hear from some of you soon. Z-ya - uploaded new pictures
