  1. Hey guys, Okay I have my z running now, however im havin troubles tuning it. I guess the best place to start is that i have my adjustment nuts turned all the ways anticlockwise if you are lookin down towards the ground, as this is the only way i can get it to idle. When i went to put my air flow sychronizer on the front carb, the engine reved real high, but it does not on the back carb. On the front carb i have loosened the idle screw as much as possible and it still does this. What could be the cause, am i doing something wrong? I adjusted my floats to 14mm the best i could, and filled my dome tops with a cap of ATF each. I should mention i just got her running after rebuild. I was going to tune the carbs before i use the timing light to set the car to the exact timing degree. Is this the right order? One more question while im on the topic. What should the timing be set at? Thanks All Frankie PS Its nice to hear a Z again!!

ITS ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This mechanic came over and had it running in 20 minutes, I had the distributor 180, Sorry you were right Motorman :stupid::stupid: I felt so dumb, he kind of looked at me like, "you called me over here for that?" Now for tuning the carbs, she reved up real high when i got her running so im gonna resort to my z therapy video now for help. Thanks everyone for you input Frankensteinz
  3. no but i have the oem housing, i wonder if that would work, if its longer i suspect it would I will give it a try in the morning and see Napa price 18.00 bucks, can't beat that MSA gets expensive on this little stuff
  4. Hey I bought this speedo cable from napa the other day and it fits in fine in the tranny but i can't for the life of me get it to fit in the back of the speedometer. The inner cable seems to be too long. I have attached a pic. Any help would be appreciated Frankie

the distributor fits right on the shaft only one way, or 180. but it was at 1 on the distributor when i hooked it up to tang, and that was at 11:25 could it be the cam is off and the cyclinder isn't air tight when the spark is ignited

I have been workin with the fsm, and the z therapy video. I believe the floats were too low and not letting gas in. I readjusted to 15mm. Still not turning over. I believe my crank should be turned back a notch or 2 on the chain. I am going to call a professional as this is over my head a little. No z professionals around my area for the z so i called a v8 guy who has some OHC experience to take a look at it. I am getting gas on top of the piston a little now but no POOLING.

i changed to the different firing order you told me and i couldn't get even a pop, on the one i have above i can get a couple of pops and stutters but it doesn't run

I read several opposing orders in the haynes then in Monroe's book. WTF why would it be different. Alright let me try that order and see what i get. My pistons were dropping to fast, and I realized I did not put any Oil in them. They are now dropping slower and rising slower. However not quite in sync. I was thinkin of switching to ATF fluid instead. As far as the dizzy goes, what should I do about not being able to line up the timing, as I can only retard the dist. so far, and it looks like it needs to go farther back? I'll keep researching.

I had some stumble in getting the firing order but i think i finally got it 1,6,3,5,2,4 in counterclockwise order per the monroe book. I don't have any fuel on top of the nozzles with my choke full on, and my carb pistons seem to be droppin to fast. Need to study these carbs a little more. I put a timiing light on my crank. If i retard the dizzy all the way I am almost in the right spot but I run out of room to turn anymore.

I have spark, took out plug 1 and it sparked on the valve cover. I confirmed i have gas to the carbs ( took off the line into the carb and it was spewnin). I also did confirm at tdc my dist rotor is to spark plug one. I will add a pick as soon as i get my helper to click the car while i watch for tdc to come up.

yes, I aligned the divot on the oil pump with the dot on the gear, pushed it up through and the tang was a little to the right of the top nut and a little to the left of the bottom nut.

Ok, I have been working on getting my engine running, I think I am back to a timing issue. I have my engine turning over have i can't get it to fire. I have gas to the carburetors. And confirmed the proper wiring order order for the spark plugs. Finally i have turned that dizzy every which way and can 't get a fire. Any ideas what direction to go. Could this have to do with the timing situation earlier in this thread?
  20. fuel filter was clogged, ugh, aint it always somethin simple thanks for the advice Frankie
  21. Yep the mechanical fuel pump. Ill trying just putting my air compressor on one end and blowing to the back. Im not sure why I would need to be correct on the timing, points and ignition. Is it related. I figured as long as the cam shaft was spinning it would be pumping. I was going to work with the timing once I got gas to the engine so i could have it running.
  22. Since I can blow bubbles into the fuel tank, i assumed no clogs? Im not sure of a good way to check besides a visual view of the outside of the lines. Frankie
  23. Im not sure what you mean by the clip, my lingo isn't very good. But i just did the battery area, and removed the fenders for rust proofing, used por 15. I just started cutting til the rust was gonna, the tray, and the landing underneath. I used 22 gauge sheets from Lowes. because it bends pretty easy and still has ok strength. Didn't need screws as the shapes just held themselves in place, till i mig welded them. One thing to watch, keep your battery tray level, my came out with a bit of a tilt, and i lost some height. Measure so you can get back to the original dimensions. Frankie
  24. PS if i blow down the hose side going to the tank, I can hear bubbles
  25. Hey Guys Just as the title says, i am not getting any fuel. I had my engine off for a while and I just put it in this weekend after a rebuild. No fuel is pumping out of the fuel pump. I separated the filter off the gas hose and the pump is creating a suction when pump it. So where do i go next?? Frankie
