  1. Really made a lot of progress this week. Got the rear bumper installed except for the small 'bumperettes'. Rubber for those should be here tomorrow. The large rubber on the bumper is NOS rubber in perfect condition. The bumpers look awesome and great on the car. Will put on front bumper when the 'bumperette' rubber comes in. Got the carb pistons working well and most of the rubber hose installed in the engine bay. I need some vacuum hose and breather hose but otherwise the engine is pretty complete. Got the door panels in. Real happy with those. I had to order some parts to complete the build. I have a center console coming in that I got off of ebay. It had choke cable with it, so looking forward to installing that. Also got a light switch/bar from ebay. They were missing from all the parts i got from the PO (or I will find them after the ebay parts come in, you never know). I put the original CA blue plates on.....it works well with the orange paint. Here are some pics. Also, If anyone has the license plate light for a cheap price I am interested. I have the right paint so it doesn't need to look good, just not cracked.
  2. Z cars doing well in the rally so far. http://www2.endurorally.com/pp2016/results.php Scroll down to pre 1975 model cars
  3. I know...so close I can taste it. I am hoping that I can have the motor running by the end of July. That would put me in good shape for getting to the JCCS (car show) in September. I have just a few fuel lines to put in, and hose clamps coming in. Then I just need to finish out the carbs and get the dash/electrical in. Interior is partially in and won't take much to complete. So, hopefully I get enough time to get this all complete in the next 3 months. We will see how it goes.
  4. Thanks Zedyone. It's the details that make the car. Makes everything go slow, but it looks nice and is easy to work on when it's done. I put the starter in along with the Battery cables. Did a bench test on the starter using the bench vice and 12 Volt battery charger. Both motor and solenoid worked well. Finished the smog parts, hoses and clamps. Will finish up the carbs over the next week or two. I threw on the air cleaner just for the pics. The air cleaner was powder coated and decals applied. Got the weather stripping in on the rear hatch. Went in easy enough, but I still hate doing weather stripping. The only part I like about doing the weatherstripping is peeling the glue off of my fingers. Cleaned up and painted the bumper support brackets and just picked up the freshly chromed bumpers this AM from West Coast Plating. Will attach those in the next week or two. Also got new rubber strips for the bumpers. They should look nice when done. Attached are latest update pics.
  5. I have installed three rear hatch and front windshields and it's really not that hard. The rear hatch can be done by one person. It helps to have a friend help on the windshield install. I blogged the install and details on the following thread down around post #21-25.
  6. Hi Jim, Congrats on the first place finish. I took third out of the nine Japanese cars in our class. I was happy with that. Did I mention that the guy who took first in the Japanese Class has his own car museum? I must be in the wrong line of work. http://malamutautomuseum.com/
  7. Took my '70 to the San Marino Motor Classic (Formerly the LA Concours). Lots of nice cars here. Yes that is 5 Ford GT40's, 3 Gull Wings, and a host of Ferrari's. Jay Leno was also there in some big Blue car with a nice chrome grill. Great event, eye candy is attached.
  8. Got the exhaust system in today....very cool. It took about two hours of sanding and wire wheeling to clean the outside of the exhaust. After a final sand with 80 grit, I used the phosphoric acid to etch the steel and minimize further rust. The exhaust actually is very solid. After the etch, I did a clean with paint prep thinner and then sprayed with high temp aluminum paint. Nice to see the Nichira name on both mufflers. Now i just need to figure out how that one hanger attaches. Also cannibalized the original style fuel pump from my yellow Z and installed that. I had a new aftermarket pump laying around so put that in the yellow Z. Yellow Z will eventually get an LS motor, but that is down the road. Also got the Speedo cable installed, mostly.
  9. Thanks everyone for the nice comments. Finally able to work on the car again here. Work was super busy the last two weeks so was not able to do as much as I wanted. I did get the emergency brake cable in sans retaining clips. Next time I will install this before the drive shaft goes in. I had to drop the shaft in order to get the cable into the hand brake mechanism. Got a passenger side taillight from 'Montezuma'. Thanks Dave, looks great. Now I am waiting for the bumpers to come back from the chrome shop to finish out the back end. Should get those back in a week or two. Got the smog parts that sit on the balance tube zinced today. That went well. Also got the inspection light zinced today. I was thinking of just buying a light, but the price for the lights has gotten insane. It was smarter just to plate the old one that I had laying around. It came out pretty well. Also got the air warmer tube in. Here are the latest pic If all goes well, I will have the exhaust system put in tomorrow.
  10. The voltage usually sits pretty low.....close to 1 volt. current to average size part like an engine bay lamp is 3 Amps.
  11. BK Precision 1621A 0-18V 0-5A Digital Display DC Power Supply Brand: BK Precision Model No: 1621A Our Model No: 1621A Condition: I have this
  12. Also, after the plating tank, I spray with DI water to clean off plating solution, then dip in Blue Chromate for 30 seconds before the yellow chromate. Blue chromate helps with the rainbow effect and and also helps the yellow chromate to stick better. After yellow chromate I rinse in bucket of warm water then dry with my wife's blow dryer on high heat for about a minute.
  13. Re: HyElec HY3005ETo use this unit you need to turn the voltage knobs totally clockwise which allows the voltage to vary to maintain the amp or current setting. Use the current knobs to fine tune the amperage setting. Got this info off the Caswell sight. Not familiar with that Power Supply. Sounds like if you turn the voltage knobs fully clockwise you will be able to adjust the current. You must be able to adjust the current with the power supply current knobs to plate correctly. Low current for small parts, more current as part size increases. See if the above works for you.
  14. Here are a couple updates until the thread is restored. Got the carbs cleaned up and mostly installed. Got new braided hoses from Jay at http://jdm-car-parts.com/. Jay does a great job with these hoses. The quality is amazing and they look great with the wire clamps. Will continue adding parts to motor. Also doing a bit of interior work.
  15. Glad you are sticking with the flat tops.... I miss mine. I sold my silver '73 240Z and am still kicking myself for doing that. Never had a problem with the carbs after I did the rebuild...even in traffic on the 5.
  16. I will be there! Will be bringing one of these....most likely the roadster.
  17. That would scare me too. When I sold mine on ebay, the guy paid the deposit, then paid in full before I drove the car up to his place in LA. I was fortunate to have an easy transaction.
  18. Here is the mustache bar installed
  19. Looks like that mount on front of differential needs to flip around, long portion in back.
  20. Hi Mike,

My restoration thread has been totally deleted.  Not sure why.

  21. Rust is no prob...I will clean and paint before install....PM sent
  22. Yes, that looks correct.  Pretty sure it is the same for the 74 as it is for the 71.  What would be cost with shipping?

    Thanks,

       Rich

    1. Terrapin Z

      Terrapin Z

      Rich,

I don't think they changed them much it looks the same as a 73 I have as well.

      Zip code?

      Dave

  23. Does anyone have a smog pump support arm available for sale? I have the main smog support mount, but am missing the arm that extends from the timing chain cover and supports the pump. Please contact and we can arrange through Paypal. Thanks, Rich
  24. Sad to hear . He will be missed.
