We should start a thread call "Descent Craigslist Z's" or something like that. I was thinking of posting a couple here from SD; one early 70 and one original looking 260.

So I ordered the SM needles to put in my SU's thinking I had the stock needles from the previous owner. When I removed the old needle, I noticed they had a KD stamped on them. Come to find out, the KD's are very similar to the SM's only a little richer at the top end. Did a quick test drive and really could not tell a big difference. I guess that makes sense. So, I am running the SM's. Will monitor and see how the mileage goes since this is my daily driver. Just thought I'd share the info as I had not heard of the KD's before.

Very true statement I did not mean to dis the '73's, I own one. Just thought they were not as desired due to the increased weight, smog, and flat tops. Can't wait to get mine back from paint. Should be a beauty. Rich

make sure that the holes for the alignment pins are cleaned out. It should go on fairly easy.

If the shaft driving the dizzy is 180 degrees out, then the dizzy can be 180 out and run just fine. The motor doesn't care, it just wants the spark at the right time. Also, if you are running with out the smog pump, then the advance is pretty large, close to what you are saying I believe. You can re-orient that shaft 180 but you have to remove the oil pump and that gets messy

I love this game...guess the value of the car...one of my favorite. Given the 2 pictures and provided information I will say $4K (plus or minus $2K). Need engine pics and interior pics to offer a better estimate and reduce the tolerance. Hard to tell if the paint has been oxidized, what do frame rails and floor pan look like, how bad is rust under battery. How original is the engine. Original spare? My '73 still has the original exhaust system and it has 147K miles. Throw on the webbers or round tops and you reduce the value of the car. Reduce by $1K for the webbers, Reduce by $500 for the round tops. Only because the car seems very original. The more you change, the less it would interest me. ( Just my opinion-I am sure there are others that feel different) If you can salvage the paint, maybe add $1K to $2K for that. How's the chrome? '73 probably not the most desirable year: 70, 71, 72 would be better. All in all, VERY NICE CAR. I love the color. Congrats on the find. Rich

I forgot about that east coast-west coast thing. Still, that some pretty scary looking rust in obvious places. Would hate to see the not so obvious places. I would definitely have to leave that one alone. That much rust is out of my league.

Yikes! Unless it's free and he will tow it to your house, I would pass. There is much better out there for under $1K and probably much closer. And, it's a '76; you gotta smog that here in CA.

AAhhh, I love an engine bay refresh. One of my favorite things. I did my yellow Z (back when it was silver) with two cans of silver paint. I used them both completely. Everything was covered but it wouldn't have hurt to have a third can. Zedyone, I would take off the VIN plate, it's only four screws. Just don't lose it. Sounds like the engine is not out. That makes it a little tough I think. Never tried it that way. Escalon mentioned using a 100W soldering iron for small holes. That sounds like a good option and one that can be done at home by those without a welder. I like scotch brite for cleaning the brake and fuel lines. Don't use steel wool, it leaves small hairs. Just make sure you use a high temp clear coat over them after they are clean. It's nice to have those fuel and brake clips zinc'd, but if you can't do that- there is zinc simulated paint, or wire wheel clean and use the high temp clear coat again. Looks better than the oxidized gray brown. Take your time and have fun. Rich

Worked on the motor today for the '73Z that is in paint. Lots of zincing...some plating. it's coming together.

Through the club here, ZCCIV. They were looking for a nice '70, so I got the nod.

That fiat is a very nice looking car. I don't blame you. I am planning on selling my silver Z and getting a 1600 roadster. It's the car I went through high school and college with. Really looking forward to having one again.

Check out e-bay for some RB25DET turbo's. $3K for a used one delivered to your door, includes 5 speed trans. That sounds like a sweet set-up.....may do that one of these days.

He mentioned a number of items: ( I write these as best I understood them) He spoke about the rear hatch hinges. He was mentioned that some of the earlier designs were not as 'clean' as the final design, which has the hinges essentially hidden. He said the gas strut for the hatch was innovative. Other ideas were a torsion spring or coil spring to assist the lift. He said he should have pateneted the gas strut. It would have made him very rich . He mention the front bumber originally was supposed to have a rubber strip in the center section. Apparently this feature was deleted by management. He said they called the color known as 920 Safari gold, "Sahara Brown" or Safari Brown- not Gold. (it really does look more like a tan than gold). He spent a lot of time talking with the Japanese Nostalgic guys, at least a 30 min interview. JN also took a lot of pictures of him with my car and the Bondurant Z car. I can't wait to see what JN has to report. It really was a great event.

Wow, what a great event! Really enjoyed speaking with Mr. Matsuo. He walked around the car with me and shared some of the design challenges on the 240. Just incredible! Was nice to have him sign under the hood. Also got the autographed charcoal. Very nice event, thanks for hosting this DHM.

I had to laugh at all the debris under your cowl. I had the same exact thing on my '73Z. Took me about an hour to vacuum every thing out. Looked like the car swallowed a tree.
