thanks zpizzaman, ill check it out. p.s. I'm liking the name, I actually worked for a restaurant delivering pizzas from my 240z a couple years ago. got tipped extra a couple times when customers who turned out to be fellow z enthusiasts saw the car
  2. Maytin, its starting to sound like ANSA might be the way to go. How was the back pressure and low end on the set up you had with the cherry bomb and ansa tips? thats my only concern with going with a glass pack since I had one before and the low end of my power band was almost non existent due to a lack of back pressure. And the dynomax that I have had on there now has been there a little over a year now. Its blown out a bit of the fiberglass inside so its a just a tad bit louder. At idle and cruising speeds it has a good low deep growl to it which I do like but should you decide to grab a gear and stand on it, it gets louder and you do get that great inline six 240 sound. My only complaint with it is that like i said, it protrudes just a a bit from under the body, Its not nice and flush like the smaller stock mufflers. I can post a pic if you like.
  3. THANKS! any idea where I could find ANSA mufflers? and yea you can find the HP-2's if you click on "products by type" from the home page and then click on "mufflers" and you should see the different types of the HP-2 mufflers.
  4. I think maybe I was unclear, I have MSA HEADERS that are tuned, the current muffler is a Dynomax. but thanks for the response walter!

Anyone know of any reputable body or restoration places in the southern california area? My search has been fruitless, half the body places Ive come across have been an absolute JOKE either in workmanship or service. I'm looking to do a full body paint job and restore on my 1972 240z. If anybody could do it or recommend a place that theyve had good experiences with please let me know! thanks

    thanks mike! got it!
  7. Hey guys. I was was wondering what is recommended. I currently have tuned ceramic tuned MSA headers running into 2 1/2 inch pipe that reduces down to 2 inch at a dynomax 1 in 1 out muffler. The engine is just the stock 2.4L engine with the head milled once. I Used to have a cherry bomb glass pack and loved the sound but it didnt generate enough back pressure and my low end power suffered. My chief complaint with the current muffler is that it does not mount flush under the body, a bit of it hangs down and its just an eye sore to me. Its not a mounting issue as it is mounted as high as can be but due to its length, as the body lines on the rear low quarter panel curve upward toward the bumper it protrudes 6 inches or so. I DO NOT want the rice rocket boom toobs. what I'm looking for is increased performance, loud but with good tone, flush mounting and good backpressure I was looking at Flowmaster's Hushpower HP-2 series. Any thoughts? this is the site. http://www.hushpower.com Thanks!

It's great to meet you. I'm thoroughly enjoying tapping into the wealth of knowledge on here. Im a second generation Z owner, both my grandparents and father owned Z's. My grandparents the '79 280zx which was my first and my dad who worked at a Nissan dealer ship back in the day and owned 2 240z's. The name might through you off but I'm actually a 21 year old college student with a deep affection for vintage cars, more specifically, the Z's. thanks!

thanks ron! I didn't know that Nissan kept no record of the 240z and their colors. That definitely helps me with the decision making process. And yeah we are both thinking of the same color just calling it by different names. the "silver" or metallic gray 901 is what I am thinking of going with, vs. the car's present 904 white. I did some searching just before I read your reply and found a page on google that listed the available color and interior combos for each year. So you're dead on with your list of colors. Luckily the metallic gray and red interior is one of the original body color/interior options for that year. So as long as you guys can keep a secret I think that's the route I'm going to go unless I hear something confirming there only being "1500 white 240z's made in 1972"

hmm I had a feeling. But what I didn't know was that ALL white 240z's came with the red interior. I was under the impression that some came with alternative interiors i.e. black. Is there anywhere I might find out how many white 240z's were produced that year? thanks for the info!

I heard from my mechanic who has worked on Z's since their conception, and he was saying that of the 1972 240z's only 1500 were made with the white body and a red interior. Seeing how I am the owner of one I was wondering just how valid this statement is. It's due for a paint job and I was considering going silver to compliment the red interior, however if its one of only 1500 made, I may reconsider and just repaint it the original 904 white. thanks all.

as the proud owner of a '72 240z and a previous owner of a '79 280zx, I'd like to take the opportunity to introduce myself. Datsun Z's have run in my family for generations. My grandpa owned one, my dad owned one and now me. My 240 is my daily driver and my hobby. In my spare time from school I have been restoring my completely stock, numbers matching 240 back to her former glory and despite a few minor set backs I am close to completion. In addition to that I am always looking for a 1972 or earlier Z in ANY condition to build into a full-race beast. I joined here to connect with other like-minded individuals as well as share all my experience, successes, failures, frustrations, and knowledge I've acquired both first hand and from my dad and his father before. I look forward to talking with all the members and sharing, as well as tapping into the wealth of knowledge in this community with all z enthusiasts. -Evan
