Ok so when I bought my 240Z the car would not start. So i replaced the spark plugs and wires and removed the SU carbs cleaned them real nice and put them back on the car. The car started nicely and i drove it around the block once or twice. The car was running really really RICH. The following day the car started up again no problem but then the 3rd day and now the engine cranks good and it smells like it is getting plenty of fuel but it wont start. I replaced the ignition coil and took out one of the spark plugs and placed it on bare metal and got a healthy blue spark. I cranked the car for a while and the engine started for a second or two and then died again. I lifted up the cylinder inside the SU's and sprayed some started fluid into the throat and tried to crank and car but it would still not start. What should my nest step in trouble shooting be?

I was cleaning the SU’s on my 240Z and noticed that the needle in the middle on one of the SU’s was a little bent and this caused the core to get stuck approx 2/3rd’s the way down. What are my options? Do I have to replace the core or can you just buy a new needle. Where can i find a new needle? I looked all over the SU's and was unable to find make and model. I apologize in advance if the question are trivial.

Are the vertical heating strips (shown in the picture above) on the rear windshield rare? Can anyone identify this exhaust shown in the picture above? It has 2 glass packs on each pipe.

I paid $1800 for it. 1970 240Z 4 Speed manual Mileage: 78K Interior: Black in decent condition SU Carbs Headers and Twice Pipe Snyder Cams RUST: Surface Rust on Frame Rails Rust on Front Fenders Rust on Rear Fenders Battery Tray has some rust OTHER REPAIRS: Rear passenger brake slave cylinder needs new O-rings Windshield and Weather stripping needs to be replaced. ******************UPDATED PICTURES IN POST BELOW******************

Was the car 100% stock or did it have any upgrades? If the Brakes were upgraded i would like to get a price quote on those upgraded brakes and hoses.

Hi, I'm new to the site and have been doing a lot of reading over the last few day about the Datsun Z cars. I am about to buy my first Z car and wanted to get a few critical question answered before i partake of the madness. I would like to buy a 240Z and use it as a dependable and fun daily driver. I realize that the Z cars have a tendency to rust and will require restoration. I intend to run the Stock engine for the now. I will be upgrading the breaks and the suspension in the near future. So here is my question to you Z car owners: I would like to know what is the costs involved with keeping these cars running? I have seen how much time, effort and money is required to maintain some of the 1960's and 70's European sports cars. And do not wish to get into that kind of a situation. thank you for all for putting in the time and effort required to maintain a website with such a vast amount of useful information in regard to the Z cars. It is greatly appreciated.
