Aftermarket Oil guage ?'s
Hey, I am wanting to get a tripple gauge aftermarket set for my 72. I am wondering though, For my oil pressure gauge, I will need to remove my oil press. sending unit near my oil filter, and screw in the new probe for the gauge. But, doesn't this car have a fail safe that will shut off the engine if theres no oil press.? If so, what will I need to do to get around that? Also, what size is the oil pressure and coolant temp sender threads/fittings? Thanks

Taillight problems!
I'm haveing some trouble with my 72 240z. On the drivers side rear tail light assembly everything works great. But the passenger side brake light, and turn signal do not work. Its not the bulbs either, the socket is just not getting power. The wires going to it are not getting power. I checked the turn signal switch right under the column, and it is putting out power for the pass. side turn signal, and the front signal works fine. I'm not really trying to trouble shoot here, just trying to find a way to hotwire/bypass and run a new power wire to it. My problems are that I don't know how this system works. I see that when my brakes are applied, the same wire gets constant power that usually gets flashing power for the turn signal. Alright, but up front, right out of the turn signal switch, the wires do not have power when the brakes are applied. My question would be, how does this work? I'm sure someone can understand what I'm trying to say. I have already ran a wire from my turn signal switch to my pass. turn signal wire, but now I need to know how to wire the brake part of it, becuase if I just run a wire from the brake switch to the same turn signal wire, then my pass. turn signal will go steady when I hit my brakes right? I need help! Thanks! BTW, tried getting a Haynes manual for it, but Advance is out of the one I need, so I have now wireing diagrams.

Will a stock 240 get rubber in second?
My first Z car was a wrecked 81 280zx. Reason it was wrecked...Driver was convienced it couldn't do a 2nd gear chip and made a hard shift into 2nd and slid the rear end out and hit a pole...Can't wait to get that zx engine into my 240z. I get into trouble with the cops once for that too......he comes up and asked if I was the one who spun the tires into 2nd. I was like oh no, in this rusted peice of junk officer? I can't beat a Geo, much less spin 2nd gear...Then he smiles and said year right..I have a 74 260z at home in the garage, and judging how quite that chirp was I'd say that was 3rd gear, not 2nd...I just smiled and he said to calm down on my rpms between shifts and let me go..funny thing was, I saw him in his 260 a couple weeks later, and we raced off a stop light...

Brake Conversion Problems, Need metal line!
Yep, I agree. Locally I only have Advance Auto Parts, and NAPA, no Autozone. Advance auto is dificult to work with. The guys there are collage dropouts mostly who coudln't get any better job and only have very basic automotice knowledge. Napa on the other hand is really good to work with. They all have extensive knowledge and are always friendly. Given the choice, they are always my first choice locally. Yes I am going to buy the parts CD as soon as I can afford a computer...I use WebTV or I would buy it now...

Brake Conversion Problems, Need metal line!
Well, I was spending yesterday changing to the 4-piston Toyota Calipers for my 72 240z. However, the metal lines from the caliper to the hose were really rusted and I ended up rounding the heads on both sides and ended up haveing to cut one of the lines in half to get it off. I can't seem to be able to get these lines anywhere though! I tried napa, and they don't sell metric ones...I tried our Nissan dealership, and they see only one side available and its $30! Thats freakin $60 for the pair, I ain't gonna pay that! Then I tought maybe this wasn't the correct metal brake line, maybe they had the one for the master cylinder one, so does anyone here have the part number of the lines I need? Or does anyone know where else I could get them? Would perhaps the ones for the Toyota trucks, that I got the calipers off of, be any cheaper, or the even the same thing? Maybe I could make them work if they are cheaper and easier to get. Or if someone out there has a pair they would sell me for a reasonable price please let me know, I am without a car until I get them, so I need them really soon! Thanks!

Clutch Replacement, how hard, and how long?
Sounds like fairly easy job then I guess...Will I need to bleed the system when I get it back together? He purchased a clutch kit, so I'd assume it includes the alignment tool wouldn't it? What do the pressure plate bolts need to be torqued down to? Also the flywheel bolts if I decide we need to resurface it? One other thing about the pressure plate bolts. I have a larger 1/2 drive torque wrench. A few months ago when I was building my Daytona engine I had nothing else to use to torque the press. plate bolts down to 35 ft.lbs, so i used it...It just snappyed the bolts before it clicked for the correct torque. I'd assume useing a large 1/2 wrench would be a little excessive on 10mm bolts, or would this be a problem with my wrench? I am going to buy a new craftsmen one as soon as I have some money to spare. If I don't have it before I do this clutch, will it be alright to not use a torque wrench on the press. plate bolts? I am fairly good mechanic, and I usally am able to know when bolts are torqued enough, and I use lock-tite on them also to keep them in place, so will I be alright without a torque wrench? Thanks!

Clutch Replacement, how hard, and how long?
A friend of mine wants me to change the clutch in his late 70's 280z. I have been told by some other friends that have done this once already that its a peice of cake. So I was wondering what you guys have to say? How long will it take me, and how difficult is it? What all needs to be done? He has ordered a clutch kit with everything for the clutch in it. I'd assume just pull the drive shaft, and unbolt the trans and pull it out right? Sounds easy enough, but I'v never replace the clutch while leaveing the engine in any of my cars, so I don't know what to do exacly, they were also all FWD's...Thanks Also, how do you remove the drive shaft exactly?

4-piston brake conversion questions
Thats right, they are made by the same company. They are exactly the same pretty much. The calipers for the 2x4 Toyota trucks of the 79-85 model years are the exact same as our stock 2 piston brake calipers.

4-piston brake conversion questions
Yeah, I think 85 is the cut off year for compatibility, or atleast thats what I'v read. Make sure you ask for the 4x4 ones, that price I was quoted was for 2x4 ones and when I went back to get them the price was quite a bit higher for the 4-piston 4x4 ones, so I opted to get them from the junk yard.

Pair of Toyota 4 piston calipers, ready for swap! Need to sell!
I went to the junk yard and got my set of 4 piston Toyota Truck calipers to do my sway, and while I was at it picked up another set. Since they are all good and all work fine I am needing to sell one set before I can really afford to finish up my brake project. I'm asking $70 for the pair, plus prolly $10 shipping. They are cleaned up, come with pins and springs, all in working order. I need to get rid of these quickly, so please let me know if anyone wants them. Thanks!

4-piston brake conversion questions
One more thing. I know I shoudn't slack off on doing brakes, but would it be possible to get by with stock lines until I get some more money to get SS ones? I would like to do it all at once, and I'm sure it would be easier, but I dont have the money for the new calipers and SS all at once. What is the primary reasons everyone reccomends going to SS lines with these new brakes? Would new stock lines work ok? They need replaced, so they will be new, but stock for a while. Thanks again!

4-piston brake conversion questions
Alright, I think I will probally just go for loaded calipers then, that would be easier then buying everything seperatly. I would be fine with stock pads, I'm not looking for extreamly high performance. Heck, putting my foot out the door would stop me better then my current old, rusted, leaky, 1/2 working brakes I have now. I think I will probally order a SS brake line kit for an 81 280zx then, I would assume my front brakes would be the same, so that would work, and then I can use them on the rear when I put my disk brakes on. Thanks

4-piston brake conversion questions
I'm going to do a swap to 4-piston brake calipers from an 82 Toyota 4wd Pickup truck. I'm going to buy the calipers new, from Advance Auto for $30.00 each. I was wondering, most of the websites I'v seen say to try and get calipers that are already assembled so I can see how the pads and everything go together. Since I'm not going to be able to do this I was wondering if someone out there could help me as to how they will need to go together and what all other parts I will need to assemble them (springs, spacers, shims, pads, those type of things). Also, where can I get a pair of front steel braided brake lines? I just want the pair for the front, because I plan on swapping my 81 280zx rear disk brakes and I'd assume I need different lines for that don't I? Thanks Anything else I need to do this?

Rear tire size options?
oh sorry, YES, 14" x 6"

Rear tire size options?
My 72 datsun has black generic ugly rims on it now, with 14" 195/75 tires. I currently have major hook-up problems with them. I am putting nicer rims from my 81 Datsun 280zx on it. What would be my best bet for tire size and width for this car? I need some better rear end trackion for launching and all...

Tuneing Carbs, and rebuild kits?
I see... I always thought that the dual carbs would be able to flow more then a FI setup. I thought the fuel injection on these for some reason was a mechanical fuel injection, not electronic, but I'm probally wrong. I didn't pay too much attention to my first datsun with fuel injection. What all will I have to go through to put FI in my datsun? If it is electronic, will I need a computer or control module, or how does it work? Thanks

Tuneing Carbs, and rebuild kits?
I was looking at the ztherapy page and noticed their rebuild kits for my 72 roundtop SU carbs. The price was like $150 for the set for both carbs. Is it worth it? I'v seen rebuild kits for a lot cheaper then that else where, but seeing as this company is specific in SU carbs, I figured they know what their talking about. (Plus I'd like to have the video that comes with it) But I was just wondering if this is the rebuild kits you guys reccomend? I'm also looking at their ported intake for my 72 240z. However, I am wondering, I will be putting a new engine in my car soon, and its a fuel injected 81 280zx engine. I think the general concensious is to dump the fuel injection and use dual SU's, am I right? If so, will I be able to use the same manifold on both my engines? Like, can I buy the ported manifold for my current 72 engine and swap it out to the new engine as soon as I'm ready to drop it in? Thanks!

What carbs do I have? What should I get?
I have a stock L24 72 240z datsun. What carbs would be on it? I can take a picture if there is any question. What would be good for me. I want a little better performance, but I really want to stay on the cheap side of things for this car. What should I be looking into?

Speedometer not working!
I got my 72 240z about 4 days ago, and the speedo doesn't work. All my other guages work, so I dunno what the problem is. What do I need to fix it? I don't know how it works really, so I need some help. Thanks!

Brake, Ignition and Carb upgrades?
I was wondering if it would be possible to upgrade the carbs on my 72 240z? I have stock ones, whatever they are I don't know. I could take a picture if theres a problem figuring them out. I want cheap, but descently better performance. I was thinking useing the SU carbs? What all do I need to swap them? I just put a new cap, rotor, wires and plugs on my car also. But I would like to upgrade to electronic ignition from the later 280z's instead of points. How can I go about doing this, what do I need? Also can I put a high performance coil on it also, what brand and where can I get it? And lastly, Brakes. They are in need of atleast new pads/shoes. I'v read alot about useing toyota 4 piston calipers. Were can I get more information about this? would it be worth my time to do? how much work is it? Thanks!
