  1. When I upgraded to a 60 amp maxima I never dropped below 13.6 even with a load. My car even idles better. I bought the alt. From a local junkyard. Took it apart. All looked good and installed the diode where the regulator used to be. Best 55 bucks I ever spent. Amp meter is much more stable and doesn't shake.
  2. I'll keep a lookout . Did you notice the 240s they have listed in Tacoma Washington on row52.com? I wanted to plan a trek up there to see what I could harvest but it seemed pretty far. Since ur local maybe we could split gas sometime .
  3. I just two brand new caps from nissan. They're still around. Before u buy from msa. Check the dealer. It's usually cheaper too.
  4. You get what you pay for here. Anything made of rubber and plastic that's oem nissan will be expensive.
  5. Excellent find. Thank you.
  6. Well interesting, so I went back and the flywheel was gone. The clutch had oil all over it and the pressure plate was rusted to hell. Ohwell. Not is all lost as I found an old school usa made bluepoint wrench and 11mm bonny 6 point socket that barely looked used. Score...
  7. So after pulling a zx transmission I noticed the clutch was barely worn and still had the writing valeo on the disc. Is it worth it to take it? The flywheel had some light surface rust but nothing major. I have no idea if I have a 240 clutch and flywheel or not as I'm running an l28 4 speed. I'm thinking about going back and taking just the disc or the whole kit and kaboodle. Are 240 and 280zx clutch disc's compatible with eachother? The clutch disc is 17 dollars Pressure plate is 17 dollars Flywheel is 25 dollard
  8. Why don't u just make your own paper gaskets. It's not that bad and doesn't have to be perfect. It's way more safe and effective than gasket maker in this case. Back in the day I made my own with gasket material a razor and a drill bit the same size as the bolt hole.
  9. I had the diff clunk pretty bad. The only thing that was saving it was the safety strap on top. The mount had completely separated into two peices. New one from nissan was around $50 if I remember correctly.
  10. I have the same wheel and tire combo for vintage as well. How do u like the diff ratio? Are u using a zx transmission?
  11. This setup looks badass. How accurate is this system? With the wheels and tire combo it's setting me up to have a nice drive train with a decent cruising gear 65 mph at 2819 rpms. Still better than the factory 3.36 diff and 4 speed. The red line I have set at 7000 rpms on my ignition controller but usually shift at 6500rpms. It has second gear reaching 60 mpg (mph, shitty android auto correct ( at 6500 rpms. What's cool is where the rpms stay. Shifting from first at 6500 into second drops to 400 0 rims Second to third is 6500 to 4500 rpms Third to fourth is 6500 to 5000 rpms And forth to fifth is 6500 to 4800 rpms. Since my torque is most noticable between 4-5000rpms. It should be a monster. I do notice a power drop after 6500 rpms. But I'm still running a stock manifold embarrassing enough. So that might net a few more ponies up high. What are your guys thought? Oh yah. Background info 82 zx 5 speed 4.375 truck 4x4 diff combo 235 45 17 wheels and tires L28 modified but stock manifold
  12. It's a 19 tooth speedo gear. I pulled it off the transfer case. Maybe because it's 4x4 and anticipated big tires is why nissan put that there. Looks like I need to find a 21 tooth somewhere. I'm a little worried with how low the diff is geared. I wanted the 4.11 but when I finally got it out and saw it was a 4.38 I decided to keep it since it was so clean inside. What are your thoughtz?
  13. Hey guys I just pulled the front diff of a nissan 720 4x4. I wanted the 4.11 but ended up with the 4.38 which is fine. I'm a little confused because when I pulled the speedo gear it was yellow. From my understanding it should be purple. Any ideas??
  14. I see that. How do u remove the shifter ear mechanism? I haven't looked yet. We'll it looks like I'm off to the nissan dealership
  15. Thorber can u point out in the diagram exactly which seal you are talking about?
  16. So the synchros I ordered from nissan parts are questionable quality? I thought anything the dealer provided was the best. I can still cancel the order.
  17. Nissanpartszone.com and used futofabs part numbers to find everything.
  18. Well $648 later I was able to order all seals a gasket. All bearings all needle bearings. Two nuts. All the synchros. The speedo pinion seal and o ring. Not bad for all nissan parts. I'm excited. I'll enjoy a nissan reman trans once I'm done.
  19. Excellent. Thanks zed head.
  20. Long story short. Pulled an 82zx transmission with only 160k. Nothing leaking no signs of damage when I split the case. Since the oe. Bearings are japan and in good shape they're staying. However I'm replacing the seals. I was able to find an oe replacement for the rear from altrom import parts but cannot find an oe or equivalent for the front. All I can find is made in Mexico or China junk. Hindsight is 20/20 and experience tells me to use oem main seals or oe equivalent quality. Two questions: does anyone have access to part numbers for the front seal? Anyone know the oem part numbers for bearings or an oe equivalent like koyo? If I can't source oe bearings the originals are staying. At this point they are probably still better than some after market that is available. I made the mistake of pulling perfectly good no leak seals before finding a new set. But figured I'd at a minimum change them while I have it split apart. Thanks for the help guys!
  21. Hey I just noticed your in seattle. I'm in portland. I'm considering making a trek to Tacoma picknpull as there are three z cars for the picking. I might even chop some metal off if I find what I need. Glad everything seems to be working out. Centering the lash pad wipe dead center isn't absolutely required but as a professional I'd be concerned of why things aren't matching up across all 12 valves. You can actually gain a little lift in the valve by putting the wipe slightly offset. Seen it done once, but it they all exhibited the same geometry in the end. I do have an eBay store that I'm currently selling a set of matching rockers n pads as a set on a bid stating at .01 just in case things go south. I think I'm the only person online selling these on a bid right now . Ohwelll....Goodluck
  22. Make sure u put a towel in the timing chain area to prevent parts falling off in there. Another thing to avoid stuck valve keeper is to make sure u rock the tool up and down and left to right with medium pressure to release the keeper from the retainer area. Then apply full pressure and take the keepers out with a magnet. Never allow one keeper to remain inside the retainer as it can be a projectile if u remove the tool to readjust angle or whatever. Instead u should get a pick to move the keeper around until u can grab it with ur magnet. It's tedious but I did the job in a couple hours first time ever working on this type of valvetrain. Goodluck and ask questions.
  23. my passanger floor started out with a small hole the size of a quarter. I took a screw driver and started poking around. It revealed my passanger floor to be swiss cheese. Also my battery tray where it meets the inner fender is rusted. So is my hatch and a couple small holes on the dog legs . My car has issues...
  24. Awesome find. I saw a scarab at the datsun Canby oregon meet last year. Beautiful. ..
  25. I'm not getting any power at that plug. So I tried finding the in line fuse and could not. Is it hiding somewhere in the dash? I checked all the fuses at the block. I check ground at the plug and it was good. But now power at the green wire that goes into that plug.
