sweatys rebuild
Maybe a little late Sweats but the upper rear corner of the door seal needs to have a "vee" cut into it. This allows the rubber to go all the way back into the corner and meet to seal it. That corner will allow water to come in that you want notice until you begin getting that moldy smell inside. A moldy smell means rust is not far behind it. Sorry I didn't get a chance to offer it earlier. Not too late to fix it though. Looks good. We need more motion video though.

1978 280z engine component??
Engine idle speeds should remain within manufacturers specs even with performance modifications with very little wiggle room. Idling at a higher RPM obviously burns more fuel but in addition you may develope driviability issues with lots of unburned fuel depositing. Suggestion......get rid of the A/C or only drive on cooler days which may mean you won't drive much living in Panama. I live in Florida and not having A/C is not an issue for me. Good luck.

Road tripping across Europe in a 280Z
Great travelog NV. Many times I have dreamed of showing up at Le Sarthe on the second weekend in June with the Z running like a raped ape. Maybe someday, I can always dream. I am currently watching the Tour de France and quite often find myself imagining driving over some of the same roads these guys are racing over. It's really cool that you and the Mrs can have times like this. Enjoy the car and take good care of it.

ZX alternator upgrade
Ground wire was the way I was leaning.

ZX alternator upgrade
Did you have any issues with the ammeter before you made the swap? I'm leaning towards a loose ground somewhere but if you didn't touch anything else all you can do is back track or shoot ZsOndabrain a quick inquiry. You should be able to sort it. Check in the trouble shooting section of the Haynes Manual also to see what would cause an erratic guage. It will probably point you right the issue.

The Classic Z Motley Crew
Flowery Branch is a cool place for ZCON. Hot showers, great scenery, pretty decent weather even at this time of year. It would be Petite Le ManZ!

ZX alternator upgrade
Ok. Test it

ZX alternator upgrade
Did this alternator come with an internal or external voltage regulator? The conversion is for the purpose of eliminating the external regulator. So if you haven't disconnected the external regulator it may cause an erratic response inside the car on the guage.

The GREAT 2017 ZCON picture thread
Looks like it was a great time Steve. Didn't realize it was was going to be at COTA. That in itself would have made the trip worth it. The race from BAKU was pretty interesting yesterday. We need more like it. Glad you made it back safely. Hope to be there next year.

New Tool Toy
Looks pretty slick. Does bead blasting generate much heat? I ask because sand does and it will reshape the door skin. Good tool though. Local big box hardware store or special order?

There is a HEATING & A/C link on the FORUMS page. There could be some useful info there. Good luck!

78 280z flooding when starting
There is a link on the home page for EFI issues. To be honest most or (some) owners converted to carbs because of issues (headaches) with EFI systems. I owned a 77 for a while and it was the only car I was happy to get rid of. After many poor running issues I was able to isolate it to the ECU on the kick panel by your left foot. I frequently had to put pressure on the plug to get it to run smoothly and had the same fuel consumption issues you described, although no flooding issues. I called several places that sell ECU'S for that model but I was never quite sure I was getting something better than what I had so I got rid of the car. But good luck.

Modifying a '70-71 choke knob to fit a '72
You would be better off buying a modern system if you want A/C. The old one installed by the dealer either needs to be converted to accept R134a or it is probably unserviceable. An upgraded system will come with everything you need for installation. I personally don't like the load on the engine when they are running plus the extra weight I can do without. Even though I live in Florida I can get along without it, I guess it is a part of growing up in the south. Good luck!

Modifying a '70-71 choke knob to fit a '72
If you can do them in billet aluminum with no modifications needed I would be interested as long as the price does not exceed $50.

Houston to ZCON drive up group?
You are talking to someone who lives in Florida even further south than you are. And just as much if not more humidity. Get an early start. It will be cooler.

1970 240Z Owners Manuals
Here is #6333. Build date 6/70. Unfortunately no owners manual came with it. It was bought from a Z repair shop in Redondo Beach California in 1994. The original manuals do make for good reading. My my wife wil, get one for me for XMAS.

Death Wobble in Steering Wheel
The inner tie rod spins once you undo the jamb nut for this adjustment. I suggest a professional alignment to know for sure it ends up correct.

Need tie rod end nuts (locking nuts) for 71
Take the tie rod down to ACE Hardware. They have a ton of fasteners. I suggest stainless steel nuts. It can be the same width or wider you have plenty space. Be sure to count the turns as you remove the tie rods. It should be about 21.5 turns to remove it. Same amount going back on. Have a proper alignment done when you can. Also a good time to replace steering rack boots if needed. Good luck.

Death Wobble in Steering Wheel
DO NOT BEAT ON ANYTHING. Rent or buy a tool to get the job done. You don't want to create a problem, you are trying to fix a problem. With the correct tool the job can be accomplished. NOTE when reinstalling fasteners and parts apply anti seize liberally. Makes the Jobe easier in the future and you won't break any fasteners. BTW I always found that a cold adult beverage nearby as I work seems to make the job go smoother. Good Luck!
