  1. You should be able to get the plug and washer from CARQUEST.

I have MOMO's on my AVATAR. Your selection depends on if you keep the factory 4 lug setup or convert to the 5 lug setup. I suggest 16" wheels. Fewer clearance issues and they don't make the car look like a tractor. Five lug conversion gives you more selection options.

RZKAS Checking and adjusting all the fastening points for the trans mount and differential mounts are good ideas but as well you should check for a universal joint that could be going bad. With the car on jack stands you can check for excess play in either end of the driveshaft without the car running. If it is in bad enough shape it will actually make the "CLUNKING" sound as you rotate it back and forth with your hand. To answer the part about changing over to a manual gearbox,,,Yes it can be done but the cost can multiply quickly. You will need a different set of pedals which will have the clutch pedal attached. The firewall should have the hole that will allow for the changeover if not it has to be cut in the correct location which should be done by a professional. Then you have to find a 5 speed gearbox which is no big task but it may need repairs to get it working properly. Don't forget about the extra hydraulic tubing for the clutch slave cylinder and positioning the clutch hydraulic fluid reservoir. So unless you have a little mechanical ability it is a job I would not suggest on your own. But good luck.

Welcom JAZZ As far as wheels and tires go it all depends on whether or not you keep the factory 4 lug setup or convert to a 5 lug setup. The 5 lug setup opens up your wheel selection possibilities. As far as any other parts you may need check the CLASSIFIED ADS on this site. Show some pics soon.
  7. Yeah Colby Welcome and your rig looks SWEEEEET! I absolutely have to have the TOWEL BARS both front and back when mine hits the road.

Sounds like a salvage yard visit at the local U-PULL-IT. Also check the CLASSIFIDES on this site. Good Luck.

Good Call YORGO For all the gearheads check out Wayne Taylors' lap at Le Mans in an F333SP and also Yannick Dalmas' lap at Le Mans in a McLaren GTR F1 both found on YouTube The heel and toe work that Dalmas does is incredible.

COYZE I echo the sentiments of everyone else...NICE JOB! A mig welder is in my near future. Many ask how difficult doing your own repair is. I am in some ways savvy like yourself mechanically. The big thing as much as technique is being able to take the car off the road and have it properly stored while you work on it. If you ae in a hurry I would not suggest attempting this on your own. Much thought is required probably much more thought than actual work. Not a day goes by without me considering or re-considering how to approach certain repairs on Project 3/72. It has a long way too go and so far I haven't messed up anything yet. To all the people needing or are interested in doing your own repairs I would suggest trying to spend a little time around a metal shop to actually see what it looks like to weld. It is not difficult. You may hear the term "tack" often when the welding subject is being brought. It is simply what the word implies and you end up with an area the size of the head a thumb tack. Do not go out and spend money on a machine that will not yield the desired results. Plan on getting a machine that could cost somewhere between $500 to $900 to get the results.

    Too many modifications as well!

I personally would not go with a fiberglass dashboard simply because of the problems that could arise in the future. I would however go with a carbon fibre dash because it would in all a likelyhood be one piece and not seperate over time. But that's just me.
  13. WHAT THE HELL is a turbo encapsulator? Someone please telll me!
  14. Don't forget This is a RENAULT engine. They quit selling cars in the US back in the early 80's because no one could work on them because they were too problematic. Are you sure you want one?

I personally like both front and rear bumpers, and as previously stated Florida mandates bumpers on cars. A beach cop stopped me to ask about mine as a matter of fact.(See pic to the left. I do however like the 1/4 look of the front bumper somewhat like the Ferrari 250 GTO. I think they may have been called "NERF BARS"? Correct me if I'm wrong. Z'sOnDaBrain has a nice looking front bar on his rig.
  16. Another pic!
  17. PJOE If you have replaced or are replacing this piece of sheet metal you can determine the size of the hole by ordering a grommett for that hole. I am currently working on that same area. Ok I went out to measure. The hole is approx. 1 3/8 in diameter and approx 1 1/5 inch directly above the wheel well under the battery tray. The hole should be located just about directly above where the wheel well transitions from horizontal to vertical. Good Luck
  18. esmit208 replied to Patcon's post in a topic in Carburetor Central
PATCON I am unable to give any information on WEBER Experts. But my suggestion would be to switch to either Mikuni's OER's or possibly throttle bodies. An engine machinst might be able to do it(the throttle shaft) but chances are a mistake could be made and smooth acceleration could be compromised. In addition by the time you pay for a good machinist to do it for you you're more than half way to a bolt on and tune set of good carburettors in cost. Just think about and price some decent carburettors of another make. One thing I would suggest is not getting them smaller than 44mm for all L series engines. Good Luck.

WELCOME My very first Z was a 1982 2+2 w/ T-Tops. The full on GT Luxury package, burgundy in color. I was hooked after that.
  21. JIMMY You will have to have a compressor though. The SCALER will work with a 25 gallon compressor. I have a 60 gallon compressor I use with the sandblaster though. It will also accomodate a SCALER as well. The big thing is "DON'T BE IN A HURRY" get the right tools and the job is so easy it's really starts to feel like fun. If you are a Saturday Garage Guy (like me) you can never have enough tools and you always have a use for them.
