  1. Most if not all the sand falls into my driveway and then I just sweep it up. I don't use anything else that would cause environmental harm. Once the sand gets too fine to use I take it back to where I am getting the sand from and mix it with the sand that is already there. The amount of dust increases when the sand gets too fine but the neighbors are ok with it.
  2. DAMAGE I would tend to agree with a few others. Rarely is it a good idea to buy someone else's performance project. If you bought one that is all stock you can personalize it the way you want. This is your first time buying a car of this sort then it is probably a better idea to get one that is completely stock. The car that you have showed pictures of will probably have some issues that are not common with stock vehicles. The fact that the rear bumper was not installed would be enough to turn on a RED LIGHT for me. Chances are some other corners have been cut as far as completing the car. I would try to find one all stock be it 240-260-280-ZX.

STEVE I looked and Googled but no luck. There is no doubt someone that knows the ins and outs of these cars in that town. I would suggest poking your head into any shop that specializes in older foreign makes. Someone usually works in those shops that is knowledgeable. If you describe your issue here maybe the folks here can help.
  5. JIM The same area will have to be worked on, on my rig. I am sandblasting but I am doing the entire car. As stated before wire wheels will clean it up nicely. If you don't remove it you will see it again. Nice job on the floor removal though. Keep at it.

I was thinking the same thing:tapemouth
  7. I always liked those SWASTIKA wheels Mike!
  8. Well if you had another car it would be a good parts hog. But if you don't have another car but lots of time and some money it can be restored. Project 3/72 looks about as bad as that but I have lots of time......willing, and I hope to keep working. My wife ows me a birthday present or two also I believe. Parts for a project car always lets friends and others know what to get you for special ocassions. Good Luck.

    Well stated G-MAN:classic:
  10. 2444 It's called personalization. I don't have second thoughts about painting my gauges nor does anyone else have second thoughts about personalizing their cars for themselves. Just enjoy it! After all it is YOUR car!

  12. If you really need to be convinced go take a look at the sticker on the door jam. It will tell you build month and year. Also as SBLAKE01 so eloquently stated it is a ZX and not a Z, but no need to get hung up on technicalities just go take a look.

DRCUZ If you have never welded I would not suggest learning with floor pans. One can go the ultra cheap route and use sheet metal but (1) These chassis flex enough as it is and a floor pan without the frame rails will flex even more. (2) A welder cooled by Co2 is my personal preference but I have welded for a living in the past. (3) By the time you get what you need to do the job you could have paid the restoration shop or a welding shop to do the job properly. (4) Flux welders are very tricky even for individuals with welding experience. A Lincoln Co2 fed welder is in my near future but as I said I have welded for a living before and I have sheet metal fitting experience. With all that being said consider this, you can have a bigger mess than you currently have or you can have your floors installed properly. Once you cut away the bad stuff or the entire floorboard you have to know how to fit the replacement piece properly. If the seat mounts have to be removed they have to be re-installed properly also. Here take a look at this story complete with photos before you decide on anything. http://www2.zhome.com:81/Classic/240ZFloorboards/ChrisFloorboards.htm. Good Luck!
  14. I would probably do some research and find all the proper hoses that go on those connections. That might not make me a PURIST, or it might it doesn't matter, but I would have piece of mind about what's going on under the hood. But that's just me. I actually ran a vacuum gauge off one of those fittings.

I agree. If it hasn't been restored and rust proofed there is no way possible cancer didn't get it greedy little stomach on it. PICS OR IT DID'NT HAPPEN. Congratulations though. That sort of stuff never happens to me.:ogre:
  16. As I said....."TRIPLE CARBS DRIP WITH SEXINESS". No science class here. Just proven performance.

SDOBES It's a long shot but try to contact exclusive 240Z mechanics or "Hard to Find" parts houses. Try Z Atlanta in Norcross Georgia, Z Expert in Venice California, Sunwest Motors in Ventura California or Redondo Beach Z World in Redondo Beach Califronia. That should get you started in the right direction. Good Luck.

GRUENEMACHNINA First I would correct the splice that the PO made and then you will have to narrow down the initial problem. These old harnesses do not like to be cut into. I BBQ'ed the main harness in the car to the left doing that exact same thing while installing driving lights. That woulld be my approach.

I personally would not have a problem with any spectator or car entry fee up to $50. If I were going it would be a 6600 mile round trip for me from Florida, but then again there is only one thing better than a road trip!............... I'm not going anytime soon but maybe in 3 years or so when Project 3/72 should be finished. There is nothing free in this country so if you want to see events like these expect to help the organizer offset the costs involved.

To echo pretty much what most others think! "NO CAR UNTIL I HAVE ALL CASH IN MY HAND", regardless of method of pay. Buyer is responsible for shipping. Getting half the cash up front is a good idea though since he is coming to the states. But when he arrives only accept CASH! Make it clearly understood before you meet for the final transaction.

  24. YOSHI Get a Haynes Manual for the year that corresponds with the build year for your car. On the inside of the back cover exists several color pictures of lean, rich, too cold, too hot spark plug appearances. I addition a brief synopsis of what symptoms cause certain spark plug appearances. That is a good starting point. Now next depending on whether your car is fuel injected on carburetted the condition pretty much remains standard. Finally what adustment to make to correct and bad spark plug appearance. Skinner Union and other side draft carburettors generally have the richest charge at numbers 2 & 5. All other cylinders need to be adjusted to match those cylinders. You can get your fuel delivery system to be spot on +/- a degree or so. But by all means GET A HAYNES MANUAL! Good Luck!
