Series 1 Fan Shroud Yahoo Japan
Good to know but is there really a market since many SERIES 1 owners are converting to electric fans. The bid price plus shipping and you have the cost of conversion.

Bored - so I ordered a new shift knob...
Looks like a glass of Cutty Sark should be sitting next to it with a nice cigar. Nice!

door panels
The backings are made of the same material as the spare tire cover is made of. I thought about a project but matching the couture of the door seems a bit of an issue. You must be near the finish line if the interior is what you are working on. FORGET THE GUNS............RAMMING SPEED!

How do I rebuilt my carb
It's not about being right it's about being practical. At any rate you do have a good parts supply. Not trying to discourage but I'm just saying!

How do I rebuilt my carb
A good idea would be to make an assessment of whether or not the chassis is saveable. Just from what you have shown it appears to have been in a bath tub for a few years. This could be a good parts car for one in better shape asthetically. I believe you did say it was being given to you? At a certain point very rarely but sometimes what you have is just not cost effective to throw money and time at. If and when you brought this car back to life you may want to question your sanity. First a complete disassembly to see what needs to be done to the chassis. If you feel it is not worth the investment then you have parts that could be sold with the money going towards a car that needs a lot less work. There are plenty 240Z's around that are a much better platform to begin with. Think about it!

1983 Datsun 280 ZX n/a 5-speed in PA $7200 OBO
Yes very nice. My very first one was an 82 that color 2+2. The ladies really liked it. I wouldn't mind having another. Always liked the T roof. I know I am one of few to drool over the ZX. You can do plenty with them performance wise these days. Don't have 6K at the moment though. Oh wait.....let me check the couch cushions. Good luck with the sale, it will be gone before Memorial Day.

1973 240Z Value
Paula I too am sorry for your loss. Now that you have made it known you have one for sale I don't see you having a big problem selling it. Based on the pic you posted it looks pretty good. A knowledgeable buyer will know what problem areas to look for. A non-knowledgeable buyer WON'T know what problem areas to look for but either way both buyers will look to spend as little as possible. MY SUGGESTION...try and find a knowledgeable Datsun person nearby to be around to assist you when you speak with a buyer. ALLOW NO TEST DRIVES! After you deal with a few potential buyers you will know who is serious. If it has a fresh engine that is worth at least $4500 in and of itself. If the rest of the car is complete and all stock tack on another 3K. If the interior has normal wear and tear no big deal. If the dashboard is Crack free add another 1K. That puts you at about $8500. But get someone to help you with it. The buyers will be contacting you soon. There are quite a few sites like this one and I would probably stay away from EBAY and Craig's List. Too many jokers. If a potential buyer shows up driving one............BINGO! Good luck.

Looking for informations about a 240Z
My 2 cents If cost is already your concern you should probably find yourself another classic. Time is what these cars need and as far as money goes it just depends on how much you are willing to spend and what sort of car do you want to end up with. But if cost is your main concern at this point you will quickly suffer from a bad case of BUYERS REMORSE within a year. They are not expensive but they can quickly grow to be. A chassis issue alone can be quite expensive if you can get someone to do it right but it as well as anything else can be fixed. I bought mine in California and had it shipped back to Florida because COST WAS NOT A CONCERN. l am not wealthy nor have I ever been but I wanted the car. As anyone here will tell you everything about these cars can be fixed. If you want the car first find a frame straightening shop and get advice there. If they can correct any chassis issues then you can go from there, engine, suspension, brakes etc, etc. Even if it was given to you to get it right will cost a few euros. Good luck!

When and Where did You get yours?
I was in deep thought the other day after watching and reading Sweaty's build and a thought occurred to me, I have had my 240 23 years. WOW!!!! Without being too wordy it was in the back lot of Redondo Beach Z World on a mechanics' hold. I had an 82 ZX that had the engine rebuilt there although at rebuild time it as in better shape than I thought. So I went in one day to check on progress and he let me wander around in his back lot. There it was, hadn't been driven in over 7 years but it was complete. Not a single body part was missing and the interior was complete. I made him an offer of 2K and he accepted. This was the summer of 1994. I always wanted an S30 but had no idea what rebuilding one took. The floors had a bit of cancer but at least I didn't have to pull a Fred Flintstone to stop it. I decided to move back to Florida to go back to school so it was shipped to a really good Z guy I know in Large Florida and he received it and did some basic work on it until I got back from Los Angeles. I got to Florida to pick it up in the spring of 1995. Did a refresh job and had it painted it's current color (Boston Gruene 275) in 2000. Drove it for 5 years until it had a main harness BBQ in 2005. Currently up on jacks in the garage and getting fresh metal underneath and anywhere else it may have needed it. New floor rails and lots of work in the wiper motor cowl. The plan is to have it running again later this year. Enough on that. How about a little history about yours! We would love to hear about it. WOW 23 YEARS!

Sad day for me.. gotta sell.
The hearts of the entire Z community go out to you. Most of us would never part with our machines unless it was life or death circumstances, WE HOPE THAT`SO NOT THE CASE. I personally hope you are able to hang on to it for many many more miles. The enthusiast community seems to continue to grow for theses cars so worse case scenario it ends up with a good owner. Take care of the leg though. I don't know where I heard it but, "If you don't have your health, you don't have anything". Maybe it was Mom that said that. She always knew how to come up with an ' ism' from time to time. Take care Bro!

Looking for informations about a 240Z
Since the car has a California tag the DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles) might be able to help. Even if it was not originally sold by a California dealer they probably have the record of the succession of hands that it passed through before they tagged it. No guarantees and plan on shelling out some money for any information. Worth a try anyway. Good Luck.

sweatys rebuild
GREAT JOB MAN! I read all 11 pages and could not help but be envious and inspired at the same time. A thought kept going through my mind as if someone were standing behind me whispering " THIS GUY HAS LOTS OF TIME AND MONEY" neither of which I seem to have at least at the moment. Not to mention the fact that I have 2 little boys (1st & 3rd grade) that need most of the time I manage to not be at some stupid job or another. I made an attempt at watching the video but I guess the file was too big for my tablet too handle. You are a very innovative Z owner as are most of the people that own and put these machines together with a certain degree of enthusiast desire. Sometimes I wished we all lived in the same neighborhood, it would be easier and much more interesting than living all over this LAND of ours. You like so many others truly inspire me to move forward with my restoration. With the exception of a few we are probably all old enough to remember how these machines looked when they first hit the showrooms in the very early 70's. I was in 7th grade then and most everyone else was in the same range older or younger by a few years. Just the right period to really appreciate them as we all always have. Your workmanship is right up there with the best and the best thing about it is it is all for fun. THUMBS UP SWEATS!

Long time 240 owner, forum newbie wondering about a triple carb setup.
Hey Fellows It has been a while since a I dropped in here. It's good to see all the old gas heads still around. I guess when you own one of these rare beasts you never really leave.Project #6333 is still being metal worked but hoping to start it by the end of the year. Why don't I see much about OER carbs (AKA SK Racing) though. I have a set of 47mm's in the closet I can't wait to I stall bought from Pierce Manifolds about 10 years ago. Beginning to wonder why very few have experience with them. Grannyknot made mention above. Also I can't seem to find a suitable fuel block or rail that would bring it all together. OK it's time for suggestions. Any help or install and tuning advice would be greatly appreciated. YOU GUYS HAVE SOME KICK arse CARS!

Pricing 240z Rally Clock w/ Fully Functioning Oscillator?
A very professional job. I am interested. Do you need the unit that is to be changed over or do you send the internal components for a do it yourself installation? Please respond with details at edtwomuchz@mail.com

SU's- lean at partial throttle and high RPM.
Since it sounds like you will be in the float bowls make sure there is nothing obstructing the operation of the "GROSE JETS" that handle the function of emulsion tubes on triples. Under WOT conditions the level in the bowl decreases and if you have an obstruction it could create a lean condition. It takes very little obstruction before you are popping and spitting. I had about a 20% obstruction on the way to Road Atlanta years ago and was forced to stop in Tuscaloosa Alabama to disassemble the rear carb. Just probably some trash that finally made its way up from the gas tank that eventually block the needle seat.

1978 280Z barn Find / sons dream car won't stay running
Your son is about to learn how to truly be a car guy. I had the same car which I believe was one of the early models to get EFI and electronic ignition. The ECM (engine control module) is just behind a kick panel on the drivers side footwork if the panel is still there. The model I had developed a water leak just above the panel under the dashboard. My car sat for about 7 years also. I initially thought it was a bad connection on the harness that connects to the ECM itself. The car I had would run fine and then intermittently would begin to misfire on 3 or 4 cylinders. It is almost impossible to get an ECM to run a test for your symptoms unless you pay the going rate for one. The electronic systems on the early cars were rudimentary to put it mildly and required a patient owner to diagnose any issues. Check to make sure there does not seem to be water intrusion in the area behind that kick panel covering the ECM computer. As this computer nears the end of its life it can cause basic running issues. If the signal between the ECM and the ignition switch is weak or gets intermittently interrupted the symptoms you are describing could likely occur. The fuel injectors receive a signal from the ECM. Mechanically the car will keep going and any part you need you can get. Many owners of the early EFI models just got sick of the electronic issues and converted them back to carbureted models. This too can begin to chew into your college fund but just suggesting another option. My guess is there has been some water intrusion in the windshield wiper cowl area under the dash. If he pulls the carpet back our out on the driver's side footwell chances are there has been enough to affect the ECM. If not it will at least put your mind at ease. Remember these machines just need TLC and a patient owner. Just remember you are not really a CAR GUY unless you can work on it. This too will give him valuable experience when he steps up to more complex machinery. GOOD LUCK and let us know how you make out.

[2016] What Did You Do To/with Your Z Today?
Didn't do anything to mine today. First official day of spring break for my two sons. Need to get another argon for the welder and finish rebuilding the hatch panel that was just about completely non-existent. A little more sandblasting underneath and I will be able to begin the reassembly process. Two little boys take up lots of project time

Confused with 71 rear brake lines.
Be sure to use the two piece clip mounted by the factory on the frame. If you don' t use it the tire could rub through it like mine did. With some creative routing any (slack) can be easily managed towards the center of the car.

build date question
#6333. Built in 6/70. Currently getting floorboards and other 46 year old metal pieces replaced. Had a partial resto between the years of 1998 and 2000. Word to the wise. Do your own welding or be there while it is being done.
