IDOXL8 An N42 head seems to be the head of choice for a little more HP and strokers as well. If you can find an E34 they were high compression heads. I would definitely consult some pro DATSUN engine builders before spending any money. Good Lucl!

MCBAIN It would take a pretty good impact to bend the cartridge or the tube. Take good look at another car to ensure that the strut tower has not been damaged as well. If it has it will have to be straightened or you will constantly have early tire wear at that corner and very poor handling.

ZDREAMS I'm currently sandblasting Project 3/72. Immediately after I get it down to the metal I seal it with RUSTOLEUM RUST REFORMER. It dries to a good finish and can be primed right over. Available at WALLY WORLD. I actually let some water sit on a spot on the wiper cowl area over night to see what would happen. No problems the next day. Since you have just a chassis it would probably be a good idea to strip it and start over concentrating on the known rust areas. Good Luck.

PROBLEMZ Aesthetically it does look sweet. Having a support to reduce vibration is a good idea as FASTWOMAN stated. Vibration can cause the same symptoms as vapor lock. Research well though and good luck. I would be interested in it but triple 47MM side drafts will not need this piece. Maybe I will add it to Project 6/70. Good Luck!

If you have a Haynes Manual and a few sockets between 12MM and 13MM maybe a 14MM even a novice mechanic can do it. But judging from the terms you used (clutch cable) you could use a hand from someone knowledgeable. The slave and master cylinders are not difficult to replace but they must be bled atfterwards to ensure all air has been evacuated. Get some help and a good manual for starters and pay close attention to this forum. It will help a lot.

I'm a D50 owner myself. Motorsports and other action photography seem to peak my interest. My wife likes to take pictures of our sons so I got her a decent cell phone for those pics. She cannot seem to keep her thumb out of the way though!

I took up serious skateboarding after I began surfing back in the mid 80's. It really helped with the flowing action when surfing. When I was a kid we took the wheels off my sisters roller skates and made scooters. I lived in St. Petersburg Florida for about 11 years and we skated a place in Tampa that is still there called the "Bro Bowl". Named so because it was right on the edge of public housing in downtown. FCO Chances are even if you get it out it will not work reliably anymore. Plan on getting a new ignition switch. My switch went bad in my 81ZX. It wouldn't go in the ignition one day after I removed it and saw small metal pieces come out with it.

Performance rubber is not cheap and since 14 inch tires are getting rare (unless you own a Mini) expect to pay at least $300 to $400 for a set. But new rubber gives you a certain piece of mind. I expect to pay about $500 to $600 for mine.

I have a 1981 280ZX. The engine is in the garage and the car is in the driveway. It had 120K or there abouts when I bought it in 1989. I put over 200K on it after I took possesion. Only one rebuild. It's been fro, Florida to California and back several times and countless trips in the southeastern U.S. Like you said they are bulletproof as long as you don't overheat them. The lower end will be used for my 3.1 stroker for Project 3/72.

Unfortunately CLOWNGUY The wiper cowl does not detach like the 240Z but it can be fixed. This is a common spot on the ZX's. It can be fixed though. If you find a donor car you will have to cut the cowl away as opposed to detaching it. I always liked the anniversary addition livery and always wanted one. The ZX is a nice machine. My very first Z was a 1982 burgundy model 2+2 w/ T-Tops. Very nice car and is what gave me the desire to purchase a 240Z. I have one in the driveway but unfortunately the cowl looks like yours. I'm using a few metal panels to work on Project 3/72. It is complete so if you need other parts maybe I can help. Don't get discouraged.

I agree GRANTF. But first I had to learn how to. Now I do as much work as I can. Next is to learn to be an engine builder.

Are all of us 240Z owners old guys and getting older? Too bad, we have a lot to offer. Palma Drive sounds like the right guy in somewhat of an industrial area. Hint, if you offer to pay him the full bill up front maybe the process can be accelerated.

NICE WORK RAINMAN Project 3/72 looks like that with the exception of the rotisserie. Can someone point me in the right direction of getting a rotisserie. I need it mostly to put the floors back in mine when I get ready to weld them from the bottom. Sandblasting the bottom would be a lot easier as well if it were upside down. I could fabricate one but the time and effort would take away from the task at hand. More pics of Project 3/72 will be posted soon.

:disappoinWelcome CHRISTNE Wasn't that the name of the car in that strange movie were the car is literally the guys girlfriend? Can't think of the name of the movie at the moment. I am almost willing to advise you to keep what you have. An early 70's Datsun cannot sit in the garage for 7 or 8 months, and heaven forbid getting salt underneath it. They have enough cancer problems as it is. If you can get husband to agree to keep it in tip top shape then by all means otherwise keep the Zoom Zoom or consider moving to a locale where you can actually enjoy it. I ditto what ONDABRAIN said about creature comforts. I drove the green one from Florida to California and back with no stereo but I will never forget that trip. Have a looooooonnnng talk with hubby. INF In addition the INSURANCE GUY is not your friend and his sole job is to LOW BALL the hell out of you and move on to the next case even if the other person is at fault. The first thing they consider is age of vehicle. NUFF SAID. Even if it was a factory resto the age is the first question they ask. Keep your car, take the best settlement you can and use the money towards another rig. Consider this, none of us will get out of ours cars what we put into them in $$$$$, so don't expect insurance companies to give you what you put into them regardless of what we all may have seen on Barrett Jackson in years past. The value is almost entirely sentimental. I too have been in this predicament and I walked away feeling cheated but I learned a valuable lesson. " They can take a lot away from you,... BUT THEY CA'T TAKE WHAT YOU KNOW!". We are all in your corner.

INF I like everyone else empathize with you and can feel your pain. I guess you haven't slept very much since this happened. But it's time to get another rig. Be it a project or one that's ready to go, IT'S TIME TO MOVE ON. First, don't let the insurance company total it. Take the money they give you and use it towards another one. Second it looks as if with the exception of the front end you still have a usuable car so your next rig shouldn't take that long to be usable everyday. And on the brighter side you have plenty of spare parts for your next machine. These things happen, and to you and everyone else remember this, "IT IS JUST A CAR". You can't take it with you. So treat it that way. When I restored my green one to the left I kept telling myself just that when people would ask me, "What if something happened to it?" And that is the same mentality I have as I work on Project 3/72. Would you have felt any different if you were in your 911 GT3R? So take the insurance money, keep the car and find yourself another. There are plenty of them around the Houston area it seems, and it seems as if you have the expertise to put one together properly. Keep your head up and we are all behind you. Good Luck!

It sounds like a failing rely. Take it somewhere and have it diagnosed. Try not to do any abnormal changes to the electronics in those cars. You could fry the ECU.

There won't be any difficulties that don't already exist. Be careful not to mushroom the pins that connect the vertical to the horizontal. You can get replacements but try not to damage them when removing or inserting. Use lots of heavy grease when re-inserting. I guess by the fact that you are having them sandblasted you also plan to have them powdercoated. A knowledgeable shop will let you know if you have any structural problems. You're almost there it sounds like.

I lived in Ventura for about 3 years and worked with a guy in Moorpark and another guy there in Ventura. The guy in Ventura was about 1.5 miles east or south (depending on how you look at it) of Seward Avenue. The shop in Moorpark is right of the main drag through town. I had a harmonic balancer replaced by the shop in Ventura and the guy did a great job. Both of these repairs were back in the early 90's so good luck with them still being in business. I have to be honest most shops don't want to take on someone else's mistakes. That's just the way it is. If you can find someone I hope your pockets are deep. Z Experts in Venice will put it back together for you but as I said I hope you have deep pockets. Richard Kuebler is the owner so I suggest you go down and talk to him. His shop is located on Lincoln Avenue. It will be worth the price of a flatbed ride. Good Luck!
