Hey Zep, Why do people do up Geminis? I've never seen the attraction, my dad owned one for years, good relaible little car, but butt ugly and I can't drive them with shoes on, unless I want to hit the brake at the same time as the accellerator! I'm not having a go, I just don't understand... invest in a Zed instead!

Well, that's what I've been told, really hoping it's not an excuse to cover something up... The owner seems very genuine, and is quite well known in the imported / performance car scene, so should be fine.

Apparently the 1JZ-GTE twin turbo out of the previous shape Toyota Supra is also a very good option, though not a nissan engine, an RB is still no more original if that's a concern. In standard form the 1JZ Twin Turbos have quicker response than an RB25 DET, are slightly more compact in size and are cheaper to buy.

Hey Mr Camouflage, some valid points, the JZA70 was never actually sold in Australia, the aussie version only had the single Turbo engine, the Twin Turbo being an import, so insurance (as I've looked into) is too close between the two to be an issue. ...but regardless, I don't wan to rush in. XYZ, Thanks for your post, one of my concerns is resale, in the unlikely (but possible) event of having to unload the vehicle, I would only be able to sell it to a Zed lover, it would seem that most Zed lovers, for that kind of cash, either want a complete original, or to my suprize, simply wouldn't spend that much on a 240? Just thinking carefully before I rush in out the heat of the moment... Thanks guys.

Hmmm, Seems most early Zed buyers a generally looking for a cheap fixer upper, I'd appreciate your thoughts on the following... In the next week or so, when the owner returns from Japan, I'll be going to look at this fully restored, steroid fed 240 with a twin turbo Supra motor, I've pasted the owners comments at the bottom. (you may have seen this in the engine mods thread) I think the car would be great to own, but at $18,000 australian its about $5,000 more than I was planning on spending (though the owner would have sunk much much more into the car) Obviously, this price is more than half the price of a used 2001 200sx or S15 silvia if you prefer (not a Zed, but a great car) Do any of you think this price is excessive for a 71 240? or worth the money? no doubt the modifications have hurt the cars value as an original Zed, but I'm looking for that kind of performance in whatever I end up buying... Cheers, Doco. ---Owners comments on car--- ..."I bought the car three years ago already restored for $12,000. The engine and gearbox had problems, however, so I decided to do an engine conversion. This and my other modifications have appeared in Zoom magazine as the car became a project for that mag. I had the 1JZ-GTE twin turbo engine fitted by Rocco's Performance. It has polished pipework, a large front-mount intercooler, Haltech E6K computer and 3-inch mandrel-bent exhaust system. It makes around 200kW at the wheels with 13.5psi boost and has run a 12.5 second pass on street tyres. The entire driveline has been replaced too. It has a button clutch, Supra 5-speed, custom tailshaft, 3.9:1 LSD (R200) and custom-made driveshafts with DR30 CV joints (these cost $1800). The brakes were another part of the project, now 330mm vented front and 310mm solid rear discs, with HSV 2-piston calipers on the front. The wheels are 17x7.5 and 17x8 Evolution Stich three-piece alloys, with the guards lipped to fit the rear tyres (235/40ZR17). The suspension is Whiteline springs, KYB shocks, Lovells swaybars etc, with modified rear arms to allow toe adjustment. Despite all this the body is completely standard, in metallic red. The interior has a fresh dashboard and trim, standard seats retrimmed in leather and velour, custom console, custom stereo installation and so on. It is virtually a show car, but set up to be driven daily if needed. It also has 12 months rego, all receipts for my work and full engineering certification. The number plate is DAT240. They don't get much better than this..."

Hey Cuong, Mate, that is one serious car you're building there, surely not too many porsches will be able to keep up with your Zed anyway... Have you seen my post further down the page "Sweetest 240 ever"? if there is a single Zed that makes me want one, this is it... Wish I knew more about that particular car.

Fair enough, I guess it's just a taste thing, either way, wish I could contact the owner and see if he feels like selling, though I wouldnt think so considering the work he's put into this car...

Cheers Zorro, I guess one of the reasons why im hesitant is performance, I really want a car with serious grunt, I used to own a 260 2+2 with an L24 about 6 years ago, I really enjoyed driving the car (not the best example of a 260) but felt it was lacking in grunt... In my mind, a V8, such as a ford 302 coupled to the lightweight, nimble handling and cosmetic potential (see my other post "sweetest 240 ever") of the 240 zed would provide a package which is hard to go past, not to mention the sound of a V8 , this leaves me with several issues... a) a V8 Zed is no longer original, and perhaps less valuable as an investment if I'm going to sink decent money into it. we're talking a pretty seriously modified car requiring engineering reports, and tighter scrutiny by the RTA and insurance companies (though I hear Shannons are pretty good with Classic Zeds, even modded ones) c) buying an already restored, moded bent eight Zed, could cost anywhere from $10,000 to $20,000+ wich would go a fair way to buying a half decent turbo import... not as nostalgic, but plenty of poke... hmm decisions, decisions...

Well, Chrome is definatley more in keeping with the period, but, I think why I like this car so much is because it look so fresh and modern... The 240Z has not just a classic, but timeless shape, the treatment on this car, black windows and all, bring it right up to date as a modern looking sportscar...

Yeah, Alex Camelleri I think... It's amazing what a difference the black powder coating around the windows makes, the work on this car is so clean and tastefull. no tacky spoilers or flares. I think when it comes to the Zed, less is more.
