Maybe its time for a new block....
If I were you I'd have the local machine shop run their hone through and see if it disappears, they are able to get the exact crosshatch pattern required for seating rings, and they only charge about 10 dollars per cylinder if not less. They will also be able to run a micrometer through it and check that the bore is ok for standard pistons and rings as well as checking that its not oval. Its a small price to pay for somethign that could write off a rebuilt engine in quick time.

Paint Mixture
Hello, if its an acrylic you dont need the hardener, its just a single pac paint. Not sure if a litre of thinners will be enough, paint needs to be thinned down well. If I were doing it, I would udnercoat and sand down with fine dry sand paper (wet rubbing acrylic undercoats has always messed me up) spray the metallic colour, then wetrub that down to 1500ish and spray a few coats of clear then polish.

Maybe its time for a new block....
As long as when you say do it properly you mean have the block either bored or honed to remove the ridge, because if you can feel a ridge its way too big, and there is nothing a new square edged ring loves less than belting a ridge at the top of the bore made by the old roudned ring.

The 240K For Sale Elsewhere Thread
The yellow 240K GT is a local car owned by a friend, its in pretty good nick, but not sure if its 5K good nick. I have a heap of dodgy photos of it somewhere if anypeople are interested in any particular areas, but as far as I could tell there were no spec differences between it and the GL aside from a nicer flowing inlet manifold. Rebuilt Trannies for Sale
when fifth gear goes all of a sudden it can be the backing off of a bolt inside the tranny, my 510 had a Z box, and it dropped fifth for no reason, pulled it an had it looked at, guy said it was a main nut backing off over time causing the cogs to move out of whack, 50 bucks later and it was good to go.

I think he probably wears the car when he drives it as opposed to fitting in it . Very nice looking little beast that is.

Needy 240Z-G man!
There is nothing that would stop you adding the ducting, but as its only a one piece, unless your car is perfectly straight, there would be very little room for adjustment once installed?

Color Choice
Primer in the rain is only an issue if its a long term soaking that doesnt get dried out fairly quickly. But to be spraying over that which appears to be single pack primer with a two pack topcoat its probably best if it all comes off. Primer is ok with short term water exposuire and it gets dried out well, I mean you wetrub the undercoat before you apply the topcoat .

Leaded fuel is OK to run on no catalytic cars! Race GAS :)
And given that some fuels now are up to 10 percent ethanol, its pretty hydroscopic anyhow. I am just going from what we saw after we had problems with running some suspect avgas through a race car with a metal tank.

Leaded fuel is OK to run on no catalytic cars! Race GAS :)
And if your car is not pinging on stock fuel, then race gas with its higher octane/flash point is only going to slow your car down. And not sure about the rules in the US, but if you are caught using avgas on the street, god help you because the fines are huge in SA. As well as the fact that avgas is very hydroscopic, and when left in the tank will turn milky, rust your tank and block everything between the tank and the engine. Chris

stopping after 2km
Condenser is for excess spark, so when it shits itself the motor will still idle fine, but when revved will pop and fart like anything. In my mind it has to be the coil, or something weird going on inside the dizzy cap like water vaporising in it then having it arc to a hairline crack in the cap. I'd try another coil if you have one handy then go from there.

Centre Caps for Aussie OEM Zed Mags..
I think you can mutate the ones off of the ZX iron cross wheels to fit, and there should be a heap more of them around the place.

update on our project
I looked at the RBK on the ozdat site a few weeks ago, and the mounts are remarkably simple and easy to make it was just a nice heavy bit of 40x40 RHS and some laser cut plates. Could be dont very cheaply and nicely I would think. The sump etc was all unmodified which made it easier than a Z conversion.

Fibre glass Help
Nope not really, depedning on how bad it is what you can do is take a diamond saw blade in the angle grinder (a tile cutting one will work if you are cheap) slice through it in parallel strips where the shape is wrong, then re-fibreglass it to hold shape. After fibreglassing one of the nicest ways of filling is it polyester resin (Fibreglass resin) and some talk powder, very nice to sand etc. PS If its not too badly bent it may just hold shape well once attached to the car ie if its only a couple of cm's? Cheers Chris

Obscene shipping costs
Banks charge me to do a money order, post office its free though. I think I get slugged 10 bucks per money order by the bank, even though it says not to charge for them and treat them like cash on the money order. Chris

Roof skim coat
Depending on who you speak to they may say that bog should be applied directly to bare metal that has been roughed with at least 80 grit paper. It cant rust if the topcoat is continuous as there is no exposure to oxygen.

1966 Bluebird on eBay
What I want is the tail lights from that one, but a 6-700k drive for a pair of tail lights is probably a bit obsessive. That and the fact that the number of cars in our back yard has been oficially capped to 17 .
