Hey - What's your Chump Car team name? I run with SkoolBoyZ Razing down here in Florida in an old ratty 280z. Just noticed your post... One thing that I've seen in 3 separate Z's I bought a pristine 260z from California from the original owner many years ago. He complained about all the things you have experienced and said Nissan couldn't figure it out for over 10 years. When I got the car I eventually found the problem... When we opened the fuel tank (and I've seen the same problem 3 times since) there was a slight "kink" in the pickup tube inside the tank. If any sort of debris was sucked up, it could not make it past the kink... let the car sit and it the debris would sometimes fall back to the bottom of the tank... so it presents itself like an intermittent problem... or sometimes just a fuel starvation problem with restricted flow. I used a 2 gallon fuel cell and hooked up my pump to it, bypassing the stock tank and tested it that way... Also, when I blew compressed air from the line on the suction side (fuel rail) back into the tank, I suspected a restriction because once I blew out the debris it would go away temporarily... Draining the tank and inspecting with a scope always looked like the tank was perfect inside - wasn't until we cut it open that we found it... Also, I suspect your float settings as a secondary problem... Good luck and keep us posted Would be good to know what your AFRs look like Another item to suspect is your distributor/ignition box/ignitor - Ken

Are there any companies that can restore the vacuum plating? Maybe that's an option - would love to hear if others have found a way to preserve, restore, or refurbish it

The National Z Convention in Daytona! Details are here http://flza.com
  4. Convention Update!!! The 20th Annual Z Convention is shaping up fabulously! At this point with the convention 7 months away we have around 150 registrations representing over 350 people coming to the convention so far! At the current pace we could exceed 800-900 Z cars coming to the convention representing over 2500 people! That would be amazing! We have several sponsors and vendors who have already made commitments in support of the Z community, now it’s time to kick it in to high gear and do your part to make this the biggest Z event of all time! It’s time to celebrate the 20th Annual ZCCA convention! Don’t miss it! Please sign up early! http://flza.com Other information: We have expanded the AutoX events (see breaking news below) and should be able to accommodate as many registrations as we get, BUT there are other events that are filling fast (like the ZCCA judged car show and the lapping), so please register early! It really helps us out significantly for planning purposes! Breaking News... Due to overwhelming demand for the Auto-X and to allow for more track time on Track Day, we have made some enhancements to our Motorsports schedule. (More information is available at http://flza.com/AutoX.htm). We will eliminate the Tuesday afternoon Auto-X (A) all together, but add a full day of Auto-X on Thursday. That will give us a full day of Auto-X on Wednesday inside the track at DIS, and a full day on Thursday at the SCCA site at the Deland Airport. It will work like this: Wednesday - will be a full day of non-classed autoxing to be held on the Super Skid Pad, just off NASCAR turn #2. It is a smooth asphalt area over 1100 feet long by 190 feet wide. This is a 'run what you brung' day that will all about having fun and honing your skills. Individual timing will be offered and bragging rights will rule. If you are in the Wednesday Auto-x, you cannot also be entered in the Lapping event on the Skip Barber course. It is one or the other for Wednesday, but don't worry, here comes Thursday.. Thursday - is the Auto-x full day competition at Deland Airport which is about a 35 minute drive from DIS. This is a fully competitive autoX which is a first for a ZCCA convention! On this day you will be classed per the classifications listed on our website at http://flza.com/AutoX.htm Please note the adjusted agenda reflecting this Motorsports schedule change. For all of you that signed up for Tuesday (Auto-X "A") you will be contacted via phone or email to see how to adjust to the new schedule. Remember if you are in the Lapping Event on Wednesday, you cannot be in the Wednesday Auto-X, but if you are not in the Lapping Event, you can Auto-X both Wednesday and Thursday! The Ultimate Z Challenge will consist of 3 events. Does your car have what it takes to be the Ultimate Z? …Good looks AND competent in a straight line as well as in the turns? We’ll see during the FZA Challenge! 1. On Tuesday your car will be part of the car show and judged based on different rules that are geared toward, cleanliness, innovation, over-all execution, engineering innovation etc. This criteria is completely different than the ZCCA judged car show and will have a different group of judges responsible for the judging 2. On Wednesday night cars participating in the Challenge will be drag racing at Orlando Speed World. All cars should arrive at the track by 5pm. Spectators should arrive by 5:45pm 3. On Thursday the final leg of the competition will take place at Deland Airport which is the AutoX. All Challenge cars will be in the same class. This class is considered “open” since all cars in the challenge are competing against each other. Hotel Reservations: We now have a special page that was created by the Hilton to make it easier for you to book your room. The page is available here http://flza.com/hotel_info.htm Click on “Book a Room” to make your reservations. Sebring Lapping: This is not a convention event, but on Saturday after the convention we have made arrangements with Chin Motorsports to allow the opportunity to run your car with their club at the famous Sebring road coarse! Yes this is the 3.7 mile 12 hour coarse! You will get an unprecedented 3 ½ hours (or more) of track time with this club! Ride alongs are available for anyone wishing to get a joy ride at speed around the track in any of the cars there as well. For further information and signup instructions look here http://flza.com/sebring.htm See you in October at the biggest Z event of all time!

  6. Hey... you can do all three... Do the Car show, then the following day you can autox and do the lapping... We have it worked out where you will be able to do both that day. Also, Sebring lapping is available on the following Saturday (10/6). Registration with the host organization for Sebring hot laps will be open in February... We will announce it as soon as it is open
  7. That is correct... It was done to allow people who wanted to split up their days to make it easier... If you want to do the lapping and autox on the same day that is allowed and will be accomodated... If you're not in the judged show you might want to do autox A... We're flexible!
  8. Just a quick update... There are already 38 spots taken in the judged ZCCA car show (Peoples Choice is unlimited). This is capped at 100 cars There are already 40 spots taken in the lapping this is capped at 80 cars (50% full already!!!) The autoX is also filling up very fast (don't have the final counts yet) We had 75 registrations last week! I wonder if that is a record?! The point is, please register early to guarantee your spot and also take advantage of the early bird discounts! Ken
  9. John... I "willed" you to be there You are on my list as "Must attend no if ands or butts" We'll have a car for you to run in, no worries there... I owe you from last time you were here. Bring yours too! I'd like to see how ya do in the FZA Challenge with it!
  10. Hey Art! The Judged portion has a limitation but the Peoples Choice Car show is unlimited. As with most conventions it just comes down to how much time it takes to judge large numbers of cars. I suppose if we get overwhelmed with requests to increase the number we could look at recruiting more judges and try to figure something out, but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. Hope all is well!!
  11. Just to give you all a quick update... Thanks for all the enthusiasm! This is certainly shaping up to potentially be a unbelievably huge event! We received over 40 registrations in the first day! Can today be just as enthusiastic? Hope so! I received several calls from all over the country (and one from Canada!) regarding the event and expect several more registrations today! SOOOO... We have 5 spots already filled for the FZA Challenge. This is limited to 80 participants so signup early! There has been a TON of inquiries about it! (over 100!)... The car show has 20 spots already taken! It is limited to 100 cars (I have to double check that) so I recommend reserving your spot asap! The lapping event at Daytona is also filling up fast, we have 12 spots already taken and it is limited to 80 cars so again, please sign up early. As far as the optional Sebring lapping day, I should be posting the details within a few days. Any other questions please feel free to post here or email me at ken280z@hotmail.com Z Convention!!! http://flza.com Ken
  12. Any coverage we can get would be great... We actually have a portion of the convention called the FZA Challenge which is very similar to their event... Do you think they'll be OK with having a simlar event during the same time? Look here: http://flza.com/fza_challenge.htm Regards Ken
  13. Ron, THANKS for coordinating this! I am already starting to get inquiries about things of this nature... (I posted this same response at flza.com) I was just speaking with John Coffey about coming to the convention... He's coming... I didn't ask him about transporting his car, but I think it would be worth contacting him... his contact info is listed on his website at http://www.betamotorsports.com Mention my name when ya speak to him. Also, please keep me posted on how you're doing with this and I will definetly send people your way who request transport from the west coast. As far as how Nissan is transporting their cars, we are still waiting for some of the details so at this point we don't know. As more information becomes available we will post it. THANKS! Ken Jones
  14. There are some optional days after the convention at Sebring as well! If you need to schedule around the wedding there's plenty of stuff going on!!! I'd like to personally thank everyone for the EARLY and ENTHUSIASTIC support!! WOW! For a little while earlier we were getting 1 registration a minute! I think in the first hour we got up to 30 registrations! THANK YOU!!! Keep it coming!!! Ken
  15. Hey all! Please register and help pass the word! Registration for the 20th Annual Z Car Convention is now open! General info is in a number of places on our website which is here: http://flza.com Registration is here: http://www.flza.com/registration/index.php Spots are already filling up fast!!!
