  1. I have a 1981 280zx 2+2 that rides on 195/70-14 tires with the stock 6 spoke wheels, 6 inch wide and 0 offset. My summer tires are 205/55-15 , 7 inch wide and 0 offset Compomotive ML wheels. I want to upgrade the brakes, especially on the front. The stock disc is 10 inches. I know there are options for the 300zx 10 1/4 rotor and larger caliper, then there is also the 12.2 rotor and larger caliper that is even stronger and lighter. I would like to know what is the best brake upgrade that can be made and keep the 14 inch wheels? Many tell me ditch the 14 inch but they look great in the car and I have brand new michelin tires on them. My preference would be to keep the 14 inch wheels. If bigger front brakes are truly going to require a bigger wheels, then can someone tell me if the 12.2 rotor will fit on the 15 inch wheel? Or will that require a 16 inch wheel? The bigger brake kits I'm looking at are made by Arizona Z car. I know there are several forums that discuss bigger brake kits but I have not seen clear mentioning on what size wheels are required. How does one measure what size wheel is required for a bigger brake kit?
  2. Got tach working by installing a converter box (MSD Part 8920).
  3. Problem resolved by installing a diode on the L-lamp wire of the alternator
  4. Don't want to hijack this thread, but perhaps my problem may be same of related. My car is a 280zx NA, 1981. Tell me if I need to create a new thread. Engine keeps running , sometimes, not always, after I turn key key from On back to either Acc or Off. Sometimes the engine just keeps running, I can remove the key, but when I put the key back in and turn to On engine will stop. Could there such a thing as a sticky ignition switch? Never had this problem until I installed a MSD box. Engine starts and runs fine, it is just the turning off that is a problem now. MSD technician says I must try install a diode on the Lamp light wire coming from the alternator to regulate the flow of current. That to me would make sense if there was just a slight charge left in the system enough to trigger the ECU and SMD box. Initially the engine would run-on only when key in Acc position, and about for a minute or so (I guess till it runs out of fuel), but now since yesterday it would just keep running even if key is removed from ignition. That indicates to me that the fuel pump, alt, ecu, msd all gets power so somehow there is a connection or faulty ingition switch problem. PLEASE HELP with ideas on what to check...Im not a technician but I can ask the Nissan service folks to check for me. Thanks
  5. My questions is specific to a non-digital dash 280zx (1981 model). Has anyone installed a MSD box and got their stock tach to work without the need to install the tach convertor? . Car is starting and running fine, just can't figure out why the tach is not getting a correct signal. Tach is not registering a signal at all. If a tach convertor is needed in this application, can someone recommend a specific part number/model? I've seen several discussions on MSD with older Z models but not for 280zx applications.
