Electric Power steering kit for Z car
I read some other posts and did a search on Corsa electric power steering and found this unit at www.bba-reman.com - maybe it could be adapted reading futher on Corsa electric steering sites, it sound like there are lots of problems with these units. I have seen the EPS unit on the JDM site (jdm-car-parts.com) looks like they want about $700 plus shipping etc. kind of an expensive propositon considering nobody seems to have tried one, at least I cant find anyone who has. thinking about going back to 14" wheels to lighten my steering up regards

heater control panel replacement
I thought I would post what I went through to replace the heater control panel on my 72 with a new 73 panel. I am sure others have done. - the 73 panel will fit into the dash opening of the 72 but the 72 parts will not fit onto it - you will need a 73 lever slide bracket - it was too wide to fit into the dash and had to be cut back at one side by my local machinist. - you will need a 73 cowl that goes behind the rotary vent - its slightly different than the 72 - I removed the cables from the 72 bracket and installed them on the the 73 slide bracket. - you will need a 73 fan switch since the 72 is too short to fit through the slide bracket and reach the front of the panel. I reused the 72 knob since the 73 was a little different. - the 73 has backlights behind the panel that i didnt install since the 72 had none. - I havent hooked the cables up yet at other end but it looks like they will fit be careful and the new panel will scratch easily - do all work on top of a soft towel

more htr cntrl panel issues
I thought I had everything I need to convert my 72 heater panel to a new 73 but apparently not. Since the cable bracket is different the 72 fan switch wont fit - i.e the stem on the switch is TOO SHORT to reach to the front of the panel and attach the knob. Anyone have a 73 fan switch hey can sell me? - if possible I would like the knob too. Hoping that the electrical connector is the same on the 73 as the 72. TOTALLY FRUSTRATED!! Dave

unknown switch
Gentlemen - 1972 Z switch for ??? I wonder if you can help me with this. Attached are some pictures of a switch that was installed on the console just above the ash tray. Judging by the hole was drilled (rough) it was installed as an after thought. Since I have had the car I could never see what it operated. This switch is not a 2 position item - it springs back to the center position that you see in the picture. The switch knob can move both directions (left and right) I seem to think the center position is OFF The switch connectors look like factory original parts. All my lights seem to work ok so I have no idea what it was intended to operate. Any thoughts regards Dave

heater control panel
I thought I would take a few pics last night of the metal heater duct adapater - its hard to see, but the bottom flange is different than the unit Jim posted - it is thicker and thus prevents it from fitting correctly on the back of the 73 HCP. In the first pic, between my fingers, you can see the guide pin for the slide insert panel is in the way of the duct adapter. The second pic shows the thicker bottom on the heater duct adapter - this is what interfere with the slide panel insert. I guess one solution would be to remove the guide pins and cut the top of the HCP panel insert (the one that covers the slide mechanism), but I think I will wait to see how the 73 duct adapter fits before doing that. regards Dave

heater control panel
Good Morning Jim The metal duct adapter from the 72 HCP must have a slightly larger (deeper) flange than the 72 because it wont fit with having to cut the center plastic insert panel (lever slot panel) - I will take a pic when I get home tonite and show you what is happening. In any case I will be glad to buy your 73 lever mech do you have a paypal account? regards Dave

heater control panel
Gentlemen Thanks for your assistance. It seems I need the entire assembly from a 73 HCP to make this work - I am not too worried about the lights but I will have to get a lever mechanism as well the metal piece that mates to the duct (the 72 piece wont fit correctly) - all from a 73 The chrome diffusers fits, and I am hoping the cables wll fit. Jim - do I understand that you have a 73 lever mech you will sell. Z Car Source has used ones for $68. Let me know. regards Dave

thanks Jim I wounder how the bracket is attached to back of the 73 heater panel - can you send me a picture of what the bracket looks like - do I have to modify the opening in the dash? If all works out I would be glad to buy it from you regards Dave

How to put home carpet in datsun
I am doing a budget replacement as well and I am just about done. Here is what I did - I spent alot time making and remaking patterns for all the various areas needing carpet. I bought about $60 on cheap (thin) auto carpet with the thought that some day soon I will reuse the patterns and buy the correct nylon loop material. I also used the patterns to insulate the floors with sound mat from a used van. (got that free) I used 3M high bond 90 spray to glue everything down ($16 per cn x 3) The trunk carpet was velcroed down. After that I sprayed the diamond vinyl with SEMS Color Coat Satin Black (I used about 3 cans or $45 worth. A perfect match. it looks way better than the old interior but not sure how it will stand up (cheap carpet) All this took about 3 months of on and off time - any surface rust I came across was removed and repainted as I went along For the entire interior I think the cost will end up around $170 when done.
