  1. I did a real quick check when I was sitting at the light but will go back out and take a much better look. If those look okay and it might be the pressure plate...is that hard to do yourself??
  2. Have a 1975 280Z. Decided to take it for a spin this afternoon. For starters it doesn't run that well but well enough for a low mileage spin. I have been trying to decipher problems and fix them as I go. Today I got about 2 miles from the house, got a bad feeling, turned the car around and headed home. Got to a red traffic light put the car in neutral and stopped. When the light turned green I went to put the car back in first and the shifter won't move. Had it towed home. With the engine off the car will go into all four gears and reverse but strated it won't go into any. Did I kill something??????????????
  3. Definitely need some advice. Have a 1975 280Z. Just got it running and then moved on to the headlights (they never worked). Got them working, took the car for a spin and all seemed well. Yesterday went to go to the store and the car was dead as a doornail. Went out today and noticed the clock was working again so I fired the car up and it was running good until I turned on the headlights to see if they still worked. Not 15 seconds after the lights were turned on the car just turned itself off. It proceeded to do this twice after sitting for about 15 minutes between stalls. Could it be the wiring, alternator, voltage regulator???? HELP!!
  4. Why couldn't the poll say He/She...! My BF can't drive stick! I don't have to worry about him doing anything other than wish he could...yet:ermm: .

It used to. The front is still the same but the rear has (I beleive) a racing suspension now. When I looked under it the other day I noticed lots of shiny new parts :classic:

The '75 280 that I just bought has Good Year Eagle GT's on it. 225/50/16's. They look good and when I drove it home I never noticed any rubbing or unusual wear. Just my 2 cents.
  7. Do they EVER have events like these on the east coast!?!

I know I was on E-Bay this morning and they had a lot of parts for 280's. I didn't have a chance to really look though. Also, www.zcar.com has a classified section. I'm in the same boat (kinda). I need a new (used) rear bumper for the '75 280Z I just got over the weekend. Hope this helps!
  12. Damn...forgot about the boyfriend, 5 cats, 1 dog, gecko and fish tank!
  13. Hello. My name is Shannon, I'm 31 and I live in Gaithersburg, MD. My very first car was a '79 280ZX and that was all it took for me to fall in love with small, fast cars. Back in August of '02 I bought a '73 240Z off of ebay and (thanks to 2Many) realized that the car was going to need more work than I had ever imagined. The car has since been sold and I have learned quite a few things about these little wonders. Over the weekend I bought a '75 280Z that is in really good shape. It will need a little TLC but not much. At least this one runs and runs well. I've had my fair share of play toys and daily drivers. 1979 280ZX 1989 Chevy Beretta 1994 Pontiac Firebird 1993 Ford Ranger 1967 Mercury Cougar 1999 Pontiac Firebird 1997 Ford F150 Flareside 1984 Ford Bronco 1973 240Z 1987 Volvo 740 Turbo * 1975 280Z * *= still have. What woman needs clothes, shoes and jewelry when there are cars!
  14. Are they serious? Is that really supposed to be a Z?

WOW!! Little car, big price tag.... Thanks for the info. I don't know why the insurance company needs that info but at least I can give it too them. I don't want to put you through the trouble of scanning and emailing although I do appreciate the offer. I think that the amount should suffice. I'm glad that the one I found needs only minimul body work and runs like a champ. It's been garaged or stored but started and driven for most of it's life and could not believe the price! Lower than dirt cheap ! I'm considering my self lucky. I'll post pics after I pick it up in two weeks so that all can see. THANKS!!

Does anyone know what the sticker price was in 1975 for these cars? I have been offered one (cheap) and the insurance company wants to know what the cost new was! Any help is appreciated. :classic:

I am trying to find the driver and passenger door locks, hatch lock and ignition with a key...Do you still have any of these items? Thanks.
  18. a fuel filter? not sure. would need to take a closer look. the PO said that it would start and run for a very short time (less than a minute) and then just give up. the carbs are the....round top ones and i believe they are new used. he gave me the originals and they now grace the dining room floor. i know that he also said something about the engine smoking...until i get a battery in it i just don't know...he gave me ALL the reciepts for parts and services and i remember seeing a newer reciept for a fuel filter, air filter, spark plugs, plug wires and distributor cap.
  19. the oil is fresh as is the coolant and master cylinder fluid. the plugs and wires are new and he put new carbs on it before he tried starting it about 2 months ago. i also know that he drained the gas train and put fresh in at that time. most of the hoses are new or at least look new. the PO did a lot of work to the car in hopes of getting it running but it would only start, stutter then stall. he also bought a new choke cable but never got around to changing it out. how in the hell does the choke on this car work? i see the little lever but the choke knob had been broken off. anyways, thanks for the advice. any more is greatly appreciated!!
  20. The 240Z that I bought sat for 10 years but it was started from time to time as the PO tried t get it running. The last unsucessful attempt was about two months ago (I've had the car for 2 1/2 weeks now). I am including a snippet from an email that a friend sent to me to see if you guys think I really need to do all this stuff (not that I understand half of it anyways). "The z is cake but you need to check several things before trying to crank it. If it's sat for a while the cylinders need to be fogged with lube and the engine needs to have the oil pressure primed or else it will score the cylinders and possibly tear up something. The fuel is most likely trash too so that needs to be transfused with decent fuel as well as making sure there isn't rust in the fuel system." HELP!!
  21. Craig, If you have an ignition, both door locks and hatch lock with key for a '73 240Z or one that would be compatible please, please let me know how much and if you would be willing to ship to Maryland. I currently can't lock the car (locks are frozen) and the original key is so bad off that I can't find a key maker that is willing to risk duplicating it. You can contact me directly at: gealicpride@yahoo.com Thanks!!

phi22b...i know it needs a battery, tires and brakes. the original owner said that it would start but then sputter and stall. he thought maybe it needed a new chjoke cable but never got around to swapping them out so he threw it in with a lot of other parts. i hope to put a battery in it this weekend and try to start it. i won't really know until then. i have noticed, under the hood, that there are a few parts that are not connected. i think one of the restoration books said that the one part was a fire something or other, supposed to keep the car from backfiring. i just really need to spend some time looking it over. does the Pep Boys up there carry any kind of parts that are serviceable on these cars? where have you gone, locally, for parts?
  23. I'm with everyone else...if you put together a list let me know. In the meantime I plan on getting into the car this weekend so by Monday I might have a better idea as to what I need. Thanks!

Thank God the car has bumpers...not all the rubber, but bumpers. The thing that scares me the most is the sheet metal that has been pop riveted in select areas. It makes me wonder what's really under there....Honestly, the body seems to be in real good shape. Just a few spots of surface rust are starting to show through the primer. I just want to get the car on the road but have to hold myself back because a "half-arse" job is not what I want done to this car...ya know.

2manyZ's...thanks for being willing to ask at the event this weekend. i appreciate it. i don't know too many people, locally, that i can ask any questions. :classic:
