We picked up an early 260z
I'm getting a 74' 260 delivered tomorrow, not sure why but don't want to see it neglected any longer. Finishing my 72' 240 resto-mod still comes first though.

Fuel cell or original tank?
Thanks Jon, good thoughts to consider.

Fuel cell or original tank?
OK, 72 240Z that I had road raced a number of years ago. I had cut the spare tire well out to accomidate the race fuel cell but saved the piece. The car will end as a resto-mod. Orignal paint, interior, etc but certain mods will stay, ie: alum rad, 2.5" exhaust. Is there such a thing as a street leagel fuel cell that I could route the filler to the original location? Or should I go back to the factory tank, (I still have it). Thanks, Joe

Bumble bee stripe....
I am toying with some different ideas right now, (even though I am 18 months till paint) and I applaud your out of the box thought process. When I used to race SCCA I would try different graphics using vynil adhesive self paper, it's cheap, adheres well enough to last several races and was easy to cut. I could not always find the exact color I wanted but I still got a longer look at the graphic and some feed back about the style from others at the track. Reg Joe

tips or tricks to removing the front bumper and lower valances
Cool Beans, So when I get around to re-assembling my 72' it would be more correct not to replace the liners. That equals some 'black' ink on my restoration P&L statement. Hmmmm, I think I can now afford that 280 I saw on ebay....

tips or tricks to removing the front bumper and lower valances
Here is a bad picture of my drivers side liner and an ok pick of the Nissan label with the part number. The liner is plastic and does attache to a 'factory' looking clip welded just behind the bumper end bolt. Reg Joe

tips or tricks to removing the front bumper and lower valances
My 72' has them! a few screws mount them to the inside and a bent clip catches the wheelwell edge. Certainly looks factory. I'll snap a picture on the weekend. Reg Joe

Thanks. I'll get down there and look a little closer. When I checked the other night I was probably just being lazy. Regular Joe

tips or tricks to removing the front bumper and lower valances
OK, I will admit that I am not as smart as I look.... or is it that I am not as dumb as I look...Well whichever, How do I get to the bolts at the ends of the front bumper? There does not seem to be anything there when I reach in from the front wheelwell, am I just missing it or do I need to take out the lights? Thanks, Regular Joe

Looking for a great restoration manual?
Thanks for all the great input. I should clarify that this will be a resto-mod. I bought the car in 87'+/- for $3000.00 when I decided to start SCCA road racing. I had a 944 but could not afford to risk it on the track. It was basically pretty easy to covert it from the street to the track. I will keep some of the current mods like the lowered suspension, roll cage, etc. Even when I raced my goal was to keep the car looking as stck as possible. Regular Joe scan0003.pdf

Looking for a great restoration manual?
Does anyone have suggestions for a really good restoration guide or DVD? Specifically for a 240Z but would consider a more general. Thanks, Regular Joe

Will a 510 5-speed bolt up to a 240Z?
The trans is 31 inches tip to tail.

Will a 510 5-speed bolt up to a 240Z?
It is longer than the other one I have in the 510 pile and I can engage six notches when I shift the pattern. I tried searching 'trans identification' and such for Datsuns but came up with very little. What is a type "A"? Regular Joe

Will a 510 5-speed bolt up to a 240Z?
Hey, I'm old and you are stressing my memory brain cells I think it was a seventy two. I bought it from a auto x racer and it came with a bunch of spares, so I am assuming that it fit the 510 but not sure. I will have my engine out next week sometime to check but wether or not I can use the 5-speed effects what rear diff I choose to keep, etc. thanks, Regular Joe
