Idea for EFI mod
Fastchick, I agree with nearly everything you've said above except for the fact that you called the F.I system dumb. (I guess Ron said that) You must realize that this was pretty much cutting edge technology back in the 70's. Hell I don't believe the U.S even had F.I cars back then. (I don't know I was born in 87). But it is rather simple, (I guess your term for dumb) as it is just a basic input output device. This has it's ups and downs. (I just came home from the mechanic where someones 99 Eclipse was going to cost 3K to fix computer related things). As the old saying goes, if one is determined enough one can accomplish anything. I'm pretty sure if one tired you could get a modern EFI system to resemble the old school L-Jets. I've done "some" work on the EFI system on the Z but I usually go down to my mechanic if I need something clarified (or pass emissions here in Arizona). Jan

Door handle
Are 620 door handles the same as Z's? Have a friend that apparently has a bucket full of 620 handles... Jan

Say what? I sort of understand what your saying but not really. A picture or drawing would great if that can be done. Thanks Jan

Door handle
Well bad news. According to my mechanic (and what I though originally) the door handle is broken on the inside. Basically where the handle connects to the rod it spit. Does anyone sell these anymore? Jan

lowering springs
While this is true many people forget that spring aren't the only thing that can help the handling, like bushings, but that for a different time. For reference, I have a 76' 280z that I bought Eibach springs and Tikico shocks. The front lowered about an inch maybe and the rear pretty much stayed exactly where it was. I also did the bushings when I did this update. Handling was improved at least 50% if not more. I personally don't see the point of lowering it any more than maybe an 1" or 1.5" but I'm not exactly into lowered cars. I lowered mine not because I liked it but I liked the spring rate that the spring gave. I'm sure I could have bought a different brand that didn't lower it but I only had so much I wanted to spend. My 2 cents Jan

Is this too warped to use?
I'm not 100% positive but I do believe that headers come with a warped flange which straightens out when you bolt them to the manifold. Jan

Sending unit O-ring
Hey guys. Wondering if you might know if dealers still sell the fuel tank sending unit o ring for a 280z. I found them online but by the price I think getting them locally would be more advantageous in my part. Thanks Jan

Blower box
Not exactly. Mine says off-vent-bilevel-heat-def. Then there's the second level which is the cold-hot setting and then the last lever controls the blower speed (1-3) Jan

Blower box
Hello guys I know this has been discussed before someplace but I cannot for the life of me find it. This past thanks giving I finally installed the heater in my Z. While working on it I noticed that the blower box (air box, what ever you might call it) has a door like thing that I'm assuming directs where the air is drawn from. (i.e either from the outside or the inside). Where or what is this attached to? There's a cable there but I cannot find what it moves or doesn't move. Thank Jan

Heater
Total time for installation was roughly 12 hours. I took my time, as I was in no rush to get it done. The fact that I had to run to the store four times for hoses didn't help either. I'm pretty sure one could accomplish it faster (maybe 4-8 hours) if you really wanted to. Do have a question for you guys. On the back of the blower motor (on the air intake side I guess) there is a giant flap that moves up and down. What controls the cable to this? I cannot for the life of me find it what opens and closes the door. Thanks Jan

Heater
Hey guys I finally did the heater core on the Z. All the interior hoses were purchased at autozone and fit almost perfectly (one needed "some" trimming but it fit great). If anyone needs the part numbers or pictures or help with the install let me know. Jan P.S Oh lord is it nice to have heat when its cold outside. (and yes I know ~30 isn't cold for you individuals up north)

Door handle
Hello all This weekend I finally fixed my heater in the Z. While the replacement was going on I somehow broke the door handle on the Z. What I mean is that when I pull up on the door handle from the outside the handle has nothing attached to it. I figured out that the wire that holds the two parts together (that being the handle and the rod that opens the door) have seperated. Has anyone ever had this issue and how did on fix it? The door opens from the inside fine just not the outside. Jan

Heater hook up
Hey guys I'm finally getting my heater core hooked up. Can some one confirm for me that the lower hose is the intake (the longer hose) and the upper is the return (the one that goes to the block) on a 280z. I just need to know prior to hook up. Jan

clunking rearend
A question for you. Does the noise occur when you do gear changes? I ask as I had the same clunk noise coming from the rear end of my Z when I first bought her. How bad are the mustache bar bushings? How is the mount that supports the diffy? Jan P.S Dam Steve J beat me too this. Bolts, all of them. Check and recheck. Any bolt you removed or messed with take a look at it.

Can someone please verify this
Hello all I'm in need of someone's assistance with an electrical...issue of sorts. This weekend I "fixed" the clock on my Z by replacing the guts with another clock. Worked really well but in the processes of hooking it up I blew a fuse. Was an easy fix. But while replacing the fuse in question I noticed that a number of the fuses in my Z were too big. (I.E a 10A fuse slot had a 20A fuse). Looking at the cover I went through ever single fuse and replaced them with the noted one. The last fuse on the lower right (closest to the door) I cannot read what it is supposed to be. It looks to me like it says 1A but I'm not positive. At the moment there is a 10A fuse sitting in that slot. The only thing that I can read on the cover is that it controls the Floor temp. (I'm assuming the light). I don't have access to my FSM's as my house is being...moved around at the moment (my roommate is moving) so could someone please verify what fuse actually goes in there. I rather not be driving down the road and have a wire or five catch fire. Thanks greatly Jan

Rear toe
It is visible to the naked eye. I can see that my tires are toed in. By I will get another opinion later this week. It may be 5/8" total together but both sides are equally toed in. Jan

Rear toe
Hey guys. Still having the toe in problem with my 280z. Spent all of this past weekend installing new bushings (Poly) springs and shocks on all four corners. Took it to the shop today to get it aligned and was told that there was no change in the toe. The rear toe is 5/8" on both sides (equally). Don't know what the issues is but I'm hoping someone can shed some light. Read the post under this one about wheel alignment and I'm debating using those aftermarket things. Please help as my tires are going to die Jan

Suspension update (review)
The instruction said specifically not to remove the sleeve. I used a micrometer to measure the diameter of the hole with the sleeve in and out. With it in the diameter was too small to fit the bushing. With it removed the bushing would not sit right as it would be way too loose. I'm not sure about the spring but I have the shorter ones on the front and the longer ones on the rear. There's a thread here about which one is which and I check a number of times before installing them. Car sits and drive great so I can't complain. Jan

Suspension update (review)
Thanks guys for the comments. On my Z neither the front nor the rear needed the compressors to put the springs in. I don't know if the ones I have are smaller or what but I swear that I just put them in and tightened the little bolt on top. Maybe 240's are shorter or something. Thanks for clearing that up Jan

Suspension update (review)
Hello all As I keep seeing a lot of chatter about the suspension kit MSA sells (eibach springs and tokico shocks) I decided to give my opinion on them as I just happened to put them on this weekend along with hyper flex bushings. Bushings The bushing were rather disappointing in my opinion for a number of reasons. First off not all the bushings fit. To be honest many of them were too large and required either sanding to fit or required me to use a lathe to make them fit. Once everything was together though I must say I'm rather please with how well they work. They are a bit loud at times but I can live with that. If you plan on using these be prepared for some finangling and choice words. Springs Eibach lowering springs I bought from MSA. They are shorter, as in A LOT shorter than the ones that are on the car. Don't be amazed when you first compare them with what you pulled off your car. The difference will be staggering at first. The shorter of the two pairs goes on the front while the longer ones go on the front. Once you have them installed they shouldn't lower the car very much. In my Z the front end dropped about 1/2 inch while the rear actually raised up about 1/4 in. or so. (and no I'm not joking it raised the rear end up.) In my experience doing the job spring compressor is needed to get the old springs off but not necessary to put the new ones on as they are so much shorter than the originals. Struts tokico come in the little packaged that MSA sells. They are direct bolt ins for what I can tell. They do come with instructions that they should be submerged in a light weight oil. There's a thread here about what to use, I just went with some 10w-30 oil in place of what was in the struts. All in all my suspension is about 1000% better than it was before. The old suspension parts were all the stock originals so you all can image what that felt like driving. I'm not sure how I'll like it in a year or two but for now its great Hope this helps everyone who has questions. If you have anymore don't fret to ask as I have the whole procedure engraved in my head at the moment. Jan

Ball joints
Found that Oriely's has Moog ball joins for 55 a piece. Bought them as I need them this weekend and have all the suspension stuff off and new stuff ready to install. Thanks guys for all the help. Mine are um dead, as the tops move about a 2-3 inches in each direction. Thanks again Jan
