  1. Yea, coolant was not yet mixed with oil. When i removed the bolt, first came coolant, then oil. Nicely separated. Thank god i did not run the engine, as the distributor/oilpump shaft was aligned incorrectly. SO only tried to start it a few dozen times but no go. *sigh* i guess this is a test of a true Z believer. Oh ye of little faith.
  2. I just few moments ago came from the garage, my meaning was to remove oil pump and correct the shaft BUT then i noticed something clear dripping down from the pump. My heart stopped. COOLANT. I instantly put oil can under the car and opened oil screw... 4 liters of coolant plus 5 liters of oil squirt out. HOW? Head has been machined a little over year ago, and it has run strong since. I recently took it out because i painted engine bay + engine and accessories. I DID change one thing to engine: TIMING COVER. Could it be that the coolant have leaked from there? I have not run engine since last fall (and it run perfectly then) I just cant figure out anything else. Did compression check, 1st time: 1-5 steady 150psi, number six was about 130+. Then i started from rear to front: 6 was now 150 and for some reason nr 2 was only 100+. Then i started from front again and nr2 rise up to 140+. I guess my battery started to be little low on current or something? I didnt have throttle open on first test, only on second and third. I was supposed to go to car show this wednesday, well it aint happening..
  3. Done that, thanks for the hint. Now new major problem emerged, more of that in HELP ME section... *sigh*
  4. Yea, thanks Blue! I think removing oil pump aint too complicated so im going that way, i wonder how many teeths that its off..
  5. Found a reason for the popping and coughing... Engine is at TDC and dizzy should be pointing down to the left, to 1 cylinder. Instead its pointing upwards. So i guess im taking the oil pump off and try to put the shaft right way back, right?
  6. Well as it seems, i had a faulty battery charger. No luck on getting car started yet..
  7. Floats/needles seem to work okay, i begin to question my timing advance. As it POPS and spews out smoke occasionally, but no bueno on start. I have DIY electronic dizzy (made by one local dizzy wizard) and it has this little red lamp that lits when engine is at TDC. Grooves on pulley match the lamp. EDIT: Now it does not even tr to start anymore. 12.2 volts on battery and it does not start... I wonder did i broke starter solenoid I did not "overstarted" as far as i know, only like 5 second periods, then pause, then again. Also the weirdest thing happened, i attached charger cables to battery and it almost fried the wires..!! What the heck is going on here..
  8. I managed to find proper washers and it stopped the leak. Now its spewing out fuel from front of the carb so float settings must be crazy
  9. I have filters on both carbs, but no gaskets. Rubber, paper or metal gasket? Im not sure about the valve, as float bowl was less than half full when i opened it. It would been squirting gas from float breather hose then, wich it did not.
  10. I just recently glass beaded my SU's plus sent all the hardware for zinc plating. I dont know can you call that a rebuild but anyhow. I tried to start the engine and first i did not notice anything until it made couple loud POP's. Then i went to see and saw it was squirting fuel everywhere. Mainly from that big bolt on float bowl. Does it have some sort of gasket or o-ring? cause i dont have any.. It leaks like crazy and i cannot start the engine. Also, what would be the best settings to start the car, as i have dismantled and rebuilt carbs. Jet up or down or something between? I have FSM and unisyn but first i need to get it running and warmed up... I really appreciate if you would help me fast, i need to get this baby running, wednesday is a big car show... :/ I removed the bolt and checked if there was anything blocking the fuel, there was not. Also decent amount of gas in float bowl.

I bought 2 kilo extinguisher, it also came with bracket but im holding mine behind passenger seat, close to hand and not too visible. It's a tad too big to go completely vertical and hide behind seat, but i dont mind.
  13. Bump this up. I'd like to know too.

    No worries
  15. About the tranny, it seems to have more electrical connections than 4 speed. Can anyone provide me info wich one is wich?

Back from your trip yet Alan?
  17. I might have asked this too, but do you need to balance flywheel and clutch kit? Im not having any fancy cam mods (yet)
  18. Good. Turns out i've asked this same question last year, just found it. Thanks for all the input! http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/engine-drivetrain-s30/47516-4spd-release-bearing-vs-5spd-release-bearing.html Im going in with the bigger collar.

    Bad ignition switch.
  20. Oh i forgot to say, both engine and tranny are out of the car. I got to mate them in garage floor, but i have proper equipment (engine jack). I have asked this before and cannot remember who answered and what. I have 2 types of collars, long and short. If i remember correctly, long one came out 4 speed. Should i use it in this too, as my clutch kit is for 240z..
  21. Im about to join the 5 speed to my L24 with new exedy clutch. I have never done this procedure so what should i remember? Any hints on how to make it right the first time? I might be a bit over-paranoid but that has keep me from getting in too much trouble and on the road (not on the side of it) :stupid:

I had leak in exactly same spot. Those valves are cheap (20 something) so i strongly suggest you change one. It might be easy to change or PITA as was mine (thanks to rusted out screws) Did that and it ended the dripping/coolant smell in car. EDIT: i just read that you had bypassed your heater. . Well if you ever deciede to un-bypass it..
