Ok i need help installing choke lever on center console. Solution must be simple but i just couldnt figure it out. So there is 2 places for screws in choke assembly but i couldnt figure out their place in center console. Previous owner had drilled hole trough center console and there was long screw holding it (barely) in place (see picture) Every time i use choke, i can feel the center console snapping because of the screw. I think that is not correct way. Also center console has been cracked near that area ( i got that fixed but it'll barely last) Thanks already

By the way, i found a sticker in rear bumper " Fleet Administration parking" Does that mean that the PO might have worked in military? btw can i publish the name of first owners or is it against protocol? If someone might know them..

! Well i guess sometimes the most simple tasks are the most difficult. I just installed hatch inner weatherstrip (original) and it was SO easy to install compared to aftermarket.

Not yet, i called to windshield shop and they said that "just use that rope" and i said that yes but can you come here to install my windshield "-you can do it yourself" they say. Gee thanks a lot, i was willing to pay for them but if they dont want money, ok. That guy also said that start from the bottom of the glass.. im confused As a sealant i use Würth black seal/glue, very messy. I think i'll have to sacrifice next saturday to this.

Well i found one 10yrs old email address that is not in use anymore... It seems (i looked trough all the papers) that im 3rd owner, not bad. First owner, Arthur, drove it at least 30 years from 72->2003(early). Next receipt i found was from second owner. I even have the original plastic Datsun warranty card! From -95 to this moment car has been driven 10K miles. Total miles of 130K or 30K miles. Damn 5 digit odometers.

Thank you Carl, i have to double check my VIN and that plate located in driver side door pilar. Hope i have numbers matching car at least... Guy that owns HLS3071162 is also present in this forum. He has very original Z! Let's suppose that i know the name of the original owner. Can i somehow find his location or any info? Again, here only thing we need is a text message with name youre searching and you get his address and phone number.

Hi again. As far as i remember, my VIN is HLS30-69729. Manufacture date was (also -maybe- cause my Z is in rented garage, 3 miles from my home) 6/72 Its kinda funny that we have so different systems with car data, but also a bummer. I was just hoping that the very first owner ( i gotta check all my papers again to find out is there names) has some pics or whatever documents left.

Hiya. I've had a 72 240Z for about half year now and im learning new all the time about this precious piece. I imported it from California and as far as i know it's been bought from Torvick's Datsun, Santa Rosa. I know the name of previous owner but he's not that helpful to provide me info about owners before him. So my goal here is to find out how many owners this car had and hopefully some info about the past. Licence number is 609 FHK with california blue plates. Here in Finland we can check all data just using licence number, but how's that in USA?

Yes i know, but there is story behind my nick wich i wont tell What comes to windshield, i decieded not to install it but rather rely on professionals. I'd rather pay a bit than lose my nerves and break the whole thing

I havent tried to install mouldings yet to windshield, it was hard enough to install them on hatch glass. I have dash in but the metal plate is off. My wife was sitting ON the windshield as applying pressure ( and giving me nice view) but still it didnt fit. We get it 90% on place from below and after she rise from the windshield, low section just popped out. Maybe im just plain stupid on this :stupid:

I painted mine with VHT vinyl spray and its good as new. Just clean it first with grease remover (asetone)

Well im quite far away from Aussie, in Finland. But thanks for the laugh We tried firstly from the bottom but then the upper part was too far from metal.. Then we tried from up to down and no succes. It is like the weatherstrip is too big or something, it just wont fit without violence and i dont want to break that glass.

I tried to install my 240Z's windshield for 5 hours straight and it didnt fit. We used the rope as instructed in manual. Upper part of the windshield weatherstrip fits ok but when we get to lower part, glass is almost 1cm off from metal. Window fits right without weatherstrip I suspect that reason for this is aftermarket weatherstrip, i just recently bought them and while installing hatch glass i noticed that something was not right. The chrome moulding installation was a hard one! And those mouldings literally sink inside the strip, and as i compared some pieces of old hatch strip, its different. In old one chrome is more visible. But please help, will i try to install this glass with this strip or should i try to order proper one.. i dont know what to do as i need to get car up and running in next 4 months.

Hi! I've been following this thread with great interest and i'd like to provide you with some information i get. I've been in contact with THE Rauno Aaltonen (i dont think i need to explain who he is) and among other things, i asked him about the car he was testing in Monte Carlo back in 1970. This is his reply rougly translated: "...What comes to car i was testing in Monte -70, you can say it was built to be rally cars prototype and it has little common with stock car. Carburators were 3 dual carbs, Mikuni or Weber i dont remember. It has lock differential (?i dont know the word), racing chassis and all the unnecessary was stripped off. So about car you can say it was mobile laboratory, electrical memory measured simultaneosly over 40 different things. Colour was red like the all factory (Nissan) racing cars at the time. Results were that good that i participated -71 Monte gaining unique result of 5. in general(?) competition. Monte was a RALLY back then, not a kindergarten like it is today. I used 3 years as a main test driver for making 240Z a race car and eventually results were good. Safari wons etc. Those racing cars were so different from stock that you cant compare them. In the other hand racing car VIN's were for authorities only. With same number you could have many cars. It was so called "Carnee"..." and second mail where i asked about more about car (was it Z432-R or...), he didnt answer all though. "...as far as i know it was pure 240Z because we were concentrated purely on this cars advantages and disadvantages. Even the smallest detalis could make difference! Car had a right hand steering. I could drive occasionally with left hand steering but mostly right hand..." Hope this helps a bit.

Ok i will try that. Second thing i need to know how to restore kicking plates properly? Mine are ok but super-dirty. I need to get them bling again.

Ok thanks for info. There is one small crack in the front and it will be repaired. But firstly i gotta straighten up the panel somehow. It's only bended from the front corner, otherwise it's good

I got door panels that are now in quite good condition BUT passenger side panel has bended from front so its hard to install. I was thinkin that heat might have done that, cause the vinyl is ok. So is there any nice way to bend it back? re-heat vinyl or something? I'll add pictures asap. I'll also need good advices how to remake those brushes () that are in top of the door panels.

Well i have half dash cover and it looks great, no pics yet, i just installed it yesterday. Recommended.

I just installed hatch weatherstrip and window in place with my wife, and she did all that without asking!

I had a similar issue on my 72. PO has painted the car and accidentally (or plain stupidity) paint has reached also door panels. I bought grease remover (a bit like thinner) cleaned the door panels with that ( it didnt take the old paint off, just all extra dirt) and oversprayed vith VHT Vinyl spray. They are good as new.

For some reason Nissan offered 240Z with 5-speed gearbox here in Finland. But look at the shifter knob.. This pic is from car magazine, July 1972. So the car must be from 71 or earlier.
