- Who actually did S30's styling? We can make it clear
"He did every body panel detailed styling. Not only surface,he created bumper, over rider, front grill etc." (from kats first post) My question: Does this include the front & rear spoiler in the work of Mr. Tamura - and to what extent? I feel this details, as the car as whole, are very designed/studied and "worked out" in propositions and harmony - the same simple & complex last touch The S30 ended up with some refinement - that something, that her italian siblings actually where missing out on blended in their own beauty ala extravaganza rather than harmony.- Who actually did S30's styling? We can make it clear
Yes, it is. In Feng Shui, the bagua is a mental tool or mind-map - more or less than a steamy love novel nor a body-kit.- Who actually did S30's styling? We can make it clear
Well put post nr.100? Thanks to Nissan, Mr. K & Matsuo - Mr. Tamura.. - "kats" & others who is posting here My Z clearly got "Bagua"- Business Week, April 7, 1973, interview with Katsuji Kawamata, president of Nissan Mo
A Word on the Inauguration of "COMPASS" by Masataka Okuma Managing Director §"Customer-Oriented Marketing Planning and Strategy System" Some quotes: "We can not really expect expansion to continue at present rate for much longer. A second factor is the adverse influence of the current instability in the international monetary situation. This gathering storm finds Nissan Motor Co. in a position of strength" "Our share of Japan´s total automotive production jumped from 26.9% last year to 30.3% this year" "Another area we have singled out for improvement is management itself. When sales volume was small, we could make do with less sophisticated management methods, relying mainly on human insight." "The next horizon - From the marketing standpoint, the 1970´s promise to be a decade of considerable confusion" "Against this background, Nissan´s marketing policies will focus on the building of a "brand-name" that has the complete confidence of society and the building of dynamic management system capable of coping with the needs of this critical decade. To realize these objectives will entail the evolution of a completely new marketing strategy" The Approach to Scientific Marketing: From "One-man show" to Team effort- Business Week, April 7, 1973, interview with Katsuji Kawamata, president of Nissan Mo
Sorry I dont´t have this article. But would like to get a better understanding of the context. My idea is that this quote and the "later" Nissan/Datsun "re-branding" could be communicated and understood by people interested in Nissan/Datsun if we look in the rearview mirror. Check the Compass - I do read between the lines in retrospective (minding the understatement of japanese nature), and get a feeling of a great conflict of business and characters.- Old Nissan U.S.A.Newsletters
Thank U Carl I searched the net for Compass related - guess the "name" been used in several ways and publications. "The Compass" is readership strictly limited to distributors and dealers First issue NO.1 October 1972 by Masataka Okuma (Managing Director) I have these publications mostly from my father who attended to work for Nissans distributor in the early 70s. From 1978 he worked with Nissan Diesel (small and medium trucks and busses + Nissan Marine) and was General Manger for this activity in the 80s, 90s until he retired some years ago under the Renault period.- Old Nissan U.S.A.Newsletters
I don´t have a scanner, but will do a lot of various interest - "all" my minimum knowledge of Datsun in America BRE etc. I have from these publications Nissan-Datsun Motor Topics- Old Nissan U.S.A.Newsletters
Nissan had all sort of activities around the world - did U ever see the monthly NISSAN-DATSUN Motor Topics in the US? Not from Gardena, but to Nissan Motor CO.,LTD export division from Nissan Building, Ginza-ku, Tokyo, Japan. Believe there should be a lot - my collection start in 1971 No.98!- Business Week, April 7, 1973, interview with Katsuji Kawamata, president of Nissan Mo
Kawamata stated that he "regretted that his company did not imprint its corporate name on cars" Ultimately, in 1981 the decision was made to stop using the brand name Datsun worldwide, in order to strengthen the company name Nissan. Ultimately :bulb: a costly rebranding was necessary.. I am very interested in this story - believe there is someone (hopefully here on this forum) who could give us some insight. Datsun Heritage is strong - am I wrong? How strong? Are you willing to talk about the American Datsun Dream and rankled Nissan executives. I do believe this was a hot topic in the US already with the success of the very first Z-car- What are your favorite Quotes?

Old school look cool I have a small selection of wheels thru the years - always dreamed about some Watanbes* of some kind - maybe "only a couple of Type-R8-14 rear"- Datsun Heritage
Thank U I will answer short, and give a more correct view later. Sorry about this. The first - my post is very misunderstandable 1. No. This is long after Nissan used the Datsun "branding" for their export models. Marubeni is a famous japanese company involved in all sorts of business around the world (yes, a distributor also - there is the connection). In the 90´s they got involved as the owner of the import company, the parts distributing, and some dealership in the capitol city. Marubeni had their marionette puppy at office, because they are not a car company. The other employee and business was status quo. Very much the same people and company who started the Datsun story here in Norway in the 60s. 2. The collection was "completed" and ended, during Marubeni ownership. 3. How many Datsun Dealership. I will check that one. I have a lot of history with my own connection + the being a happy member of a very good Datsun & PMC club. Most of the history, statestic, manuals and material is saved- newbie alert...
Welcome I´m a very fresh member myself - remembering a postcard from 1978 featured the 240KGT - your type of Skyline?- Datsun Heritage
:paranoid: understanding that The Datsun Heritage Museum is a good thing - I like to tell a story by short.. Here in Norway the Datsun´s start to arrive as early as 1960, and since then been a very professional company. Nissan of Norway collected AND restored almost all their models and variants all back to their very first Datsun Bluebird in Europe. I personally was involved pushing the purchase of both a roadster and a Z car among the their normal model program. Many enthusiasts in the company and around were pleased and proud of what was achieved. After all this effort the cars where sold of to "strangers" over two weekends - a decision by the Japanese owner - Marubeni The lot was sold with no minimum price - a big loss - a symbolic act of power to "fix" the balance!- 'Datsun Heritage Museum' interview clip
Who really cares? I care about how history goes down. Put in perspective - and becauase U are all right.. about your view and scenario - Datsun Heritage Museum must be correct, and most important - have a story to tell. This story can not be told by the latest american trend, or any stock or show-car.- My introduce to the club
Yes, it is - I´m not sure, but I belive the engine is V6 and the original color orange?- My introduce to the club
If you have a good number maybe they will help you at some cost That´s the story, but the Nissan import company here did exactly a genuine parts restoration on a Fairlady 1600 in the late 90´s. But I remember parts for that particular car should be US spec and the knowledge and parts were coming from The US I think.- My introduce to the club
Hello Chris Availability of Roadster and Z-parts here in Norway is restricted to Nissan Genuine Parts. For other models the Datsun/PMC club is doing an awesome job traveling and collecting on a regular basis. Policy in Norway is sadly to maculate parts by the years and taxes and these models were never common business here in Norway. The Roadster was never sold (less than a handful of grey-imports). Less than 50 240Z were sold. A total of 39 260Z, and the 280Z was never imported. Only 6 280ZX and so on.. The Datsun 240Z Sports was the only successful & campaigned for sales. In 1973 two Fairlady Z-L was taken to Norway. I bought restored and sold one of them.. Thank U very much Andy for letting me know it´s clean - that was my idea too Wheels are original MINILITE Sport alu. 14x6,5 (+13) with Yokohama 205/70HR14 Looks like your car has Watanabe?- My introduce to the club
Thank U Resent picture of the car can be found in "my galeri". The restoration was done before I was introduced to the digital media, but of course I will do a scanning from my private album sooner or later. It´s all done with genuine parts in a Nissan workshop by the original manuals and know-how after hours*- 'Datsun Heritage Museum' interview clip
I have the same feeling. Please correct me if I´m wrong biased, but from both japanese and europeans working for Nissan I got the strong feeling of Nissan as the respected manufacture behind the Datsun labeled export models. By time, and with Datsun success in the main marked (USA) there is a Datsun nostalgia Datsun=good, and Nissan=bad hmm.. Very strange indeed - I guess it is positive Mr K is the father of the mystique Z then - IMGP0254
