  1. Don't forget water and oil, a utility knife, channel locks, a sheet or blanket In case you need to get under the car, and some rubber gloves-just because.

Leon, Isn't that a reverse commute?
  3. My car is silver, which I like and was close to the original color. However, if I ever get my parts car back together, it will become the lime green/yellow color. That color not only provides great contrast, but seemed to be exclusive to the early Z's.

Springs and struts would probably cost no more than a new set of wheels-especially when the tires are added.
  5. So.....EuroDat, are you saying that he SHOULD fix it or SHOULDN'T? I'd say that there are enough if these motors around that you could find another damper.

Horseman, If you knew our tax rates, disfunctionality of government, quality of schools, etc. in California, you'd know that low rust Z's are not an even swap. However, being able to drive them all year long--that's a different story.

Not a ton of info on this, but what is there looks decent for the price, in case anyone's looking. http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sgv/cto/3322575290.html

Stephen, if you are unable to get it going you could look into a ZX dizzy. I've had one on my car for about a year and a half with no issues. $60.00 on Craigslist.

In addition to what has been stated, there is also some lash adjustment on the rack. Take off the large retaining nut and screw on the rack, make sure everything I'd lubed, a d snug it back together.

The datsun parts site described above and re-linked here, shows him selling the pair for $214.00. This means that if you need both, the cost of the right hand side is $34.00 more than the standard driver's side from Courtesy, but I believe that is for a flat passenger's side mirror. I stopped in on him a few weeks back to buy some roadster parts and actually met the guy that is working on the tooling for the mirrors. He explained some of the challenges he is having-especially since the convex mirrors are slightly thinner than the flat ones-for knurling the edge over, and he is supposed to be coming in with the final prototype version. At any rate, when compared to some of the ones on ebay that look nothing like OEM, this seems like a pretty decent alternative if they are able to produce them. http://www.datsunparts.com/Mirrors Scroll down to part no. 2323.

As with all painting, the work is in the prep. I used SEM on part of my door panels and was happy with the result. They sell a prep solution, but I used Acetone. It is very important that you clean off any oil/silicone/treatment that has been rubbed onto the vinyl, or the spray paint will not stick.
  12. That was a crazy amount of work shown in that post. Sure hope I don't have that much hidden in my car. I thought his signature line was interesting..."If you didn't build it, it's not yours". I guess, according to some, it's not yours.
  13. Www.zhome.com/ See the writeup on ownership and what to look for.
  14. Dodger, did you put in any kind of cutoff switch? Either manual or automatic?
  15. My suggestion is to drive the car...HARD! Then drive it some more. Break whatever you are going to break now, while you are close to home, and then repair whatever breaks. There is no substitution for actual mileage on the car. You also need to get used to the limits of adhesion so that you'll be more comfortable on the rally. Its like Dirty Harry said (before talking to the empty chair) "A man has got to know his limitations."
  16. Just a note on synthetic, after replacing the conventional 90 wt oil in my roadster tranny with MTL (which I did due to a bad synchro) I get seepage past some of the seals. Shifting is much smoother though.
  17. The car does look nicely done, but $15K? Please pass the pipe. Great car for halloween, but a 260 in a non original color? I'm not doubting for a second that he has more than that into the car, and there may be a buyer out there at that price (you only need one) but I would not say that that would establish "market" value for that car.
  18. I concur with Kurbycar (say that 3 times fast). The ATF is thin enough to flush and shoudn't damage seals like gasonline probably will. The plug/magnet are at the lowest point in the tranny, so theoretically, any metal filings (which are more dense than the oil) will sink to the bottom and get stuck to the magnet. Problems arise when you start seeing larger portions of the bearing races broken off and residing on the plug.
  19. Nice looking car by the pictures. While I appreciate your honesty I think you do yourself a disservice by listing all those defects. It kind of reminds me of a sign I once saw..."lost dog- left rear leg missing, right eye gone, one ear is bitten up and the fur on his back is gone...answers to 'Lucky'. Maybe you could fix some of the easy stuff to shorten the list.
  20. I bought a plastic shower curtain from 99c store and held them in place with weatherstrip adhesive.
  21. If you have the old one, you can use it as a template. I used torch down roofing material that I had left over from a building. It is bulletproof and won't fall apart.

Great video. So, if you break loose on that track, are you considered a High Plains Drifter?
  23. I was being facetious about Murphy. I've met him, I know him, and I really don't like him.
  24. You are treading on some dangerous ground here, my friend. And who the deuce is Murphy? Never heard of him.
  25. Why are you transporting the car instead of driving it?
