What classic car is this?
Alpha duetto. I believe it is a '67-'69. Pininfarina design, was ahead of its time. It is quite a departure from the classic roadster look of the 60's (i.e. Datsun, Triumph, Fiat, The Alpha Veloce that preceeded it etc). The American versions had the mechanical fuel injection, which was pretty advanced for its time, though the carb'd versions are more sought after.

Weatherstripping, making sure I got it right.
Thank you for the explanation. Very clear.

What about that Pee Wee Herman movie?

Weatherstripping, making sure I got it right.
Wade, I can't help either on the outer weatherstrip. I tried to order the one piece from MSA but they were out of stock for 4 or 6 months. I do have a question for you though on the inner weatherstrip. Did that one get glued in with adhesive?

Tail Light Gasket Question
Thanks for the replies. I have some of the black adhesive at home.

Radio makes funny noise
You may need to put a resistor in line somewhere to supress the electrical noise.

Tail Light Gasket Question
I bought some new tail light gaskets for my car-just in case I ever get it back from the body shop. When I took the old gaskets off (I don't think they'd been removed in 40 years) it looked like there was a thin strip of adhesive between the gasket and the body, maybe double sided tape? For those of you that have done this, did you apply any sealant to ensure a good seal?

bachelor chow
Carrots, Celery, Corn, Onions (any other vegetables you like, whether canned, frozen or fresh) and top ramin. Boil the veggies until 'al dente' add the noodles and seasoning, and dump in an egg. Remove from heat before the noodles get soggy. Lived off of that for years in college and afterward. As long as you have a lot of other stuff to build up the meal, it won't seem like just simple noodles.

So, how are you attaching the rubber to the stainless?

cyclist leans against my car at a red light...
I cycle occasionally as well, and I have a lot of respect for guys that are able to bike up hills that take time to climb in a car. However, many of them have a habit of I insisting on their rights. On new years day I was on a 100 car rally and there were many points in the canyons where cyclists were in the middle of the road during some sharp, blind apexes. At times 30-40 cars would be stacked up behind a cyclist. The law here says if 5 or more cars are behind you, you need to pull over to let them pass. As stated above, their adherence to laws is quite selective.

questions about a throw out bearing
I can see why a burnout would cook the disk, but I'm not sure why it would ruin the throwout bearing. In any case, as stated above the 3 items that should be replaced are the Clutch disk, the pressure plate, and the throwout bearing. While down there take a good look at the clutch slave to make sure it is not seeping any fluid. Also make sure to get a disk alignment tool in order to make life easier upon reassembly. They're just a couple bucks.

Major Ouchie
Ok, so I thought I'd post some progress pics. Clearly the "first week of December" has come and gone, and I still don't have the car back. However, the body guy has been extremely conscienscious about locating and digging out minor rust spots in obscure places. In the interim I have been prepping the parts to go back on (i.e. polishing up light lenses, windshield trim and such). Hopefully within the next two weeks it will be back at the shop with reassembly underway.

If you can find some, grab me one while you are at it. Unfortunately it appears that you have to buy the stainless piece with it. If someone could figure out a way to fasten the rubber to the original metal piece we'd all be in luck.

Finding Z-Cars by VIN number possible?
Somewhere on this site there is a link to an on line Excel ™ spreadsheet that lists Z's by VIN.

sr20det swap in 240z
From what I have read, for around 3-4 grand you can have Rebello blueprint and stroke out an L28 and get you to roughly the same spot. Others here have done it and would know for sure.

Differential question
The stock diff was a 3.36. If you put a 3.9 in without changing the tranny you will have very short gears-maybe good for autocross but not great on the highway. There are plenty of 3.36's here ( I have one) and maybe you could have one shipped over. If you do put in a 5 speed, it would be simpler to put in an R180 with 3.9 or 3.7 gearing (I have the latter in my car with an '82 tranny and I really like the combination).

Broken broken ! how could I fix this
Also when you get a wrench on it, try rapping on the wrench or the stud while under tension. I've had impact wrenches break things loose that I'd never have gotten off with just torque.

Seat lumbar support
I pulled a pair of Miata seats from a car at the boneyard for $40.00. Both the lumbar and lateral supports are great and they look like the were made for the car.

Internet Etiquette
The list IS endless. I too am from from another time-you know, when bumpers were chrome and "blowing a tranny" just meant car trouble. Sure things evolve, but laziness is not a reason for said evolution. The lack of discipline (and the advent of participation trophies described above) is a part of why we are no longer globally competitive. Blue, I'm usually in lock step with you, but you lost me at the "1 global currency" thing. It is not working out for Europe as it tends to reward mediocrity and punish productivity. Germany has been bearing the brunt of Greece's excesses but it will not continue to do so for long. Oh and one more thing; can we PLEASE get the morons in our country (including many of our presidents) to pronounce the word as "NUCLEAR" instead of "NUCULAR"? Its kind of like "axeing" someone a question.

Kim Jong Il?
Shame...truly a shame. Anyway, what's for lunch?

Internet Etiquette
U r rite. I can't stand the lazy code people use when typing and texting. A typo is one thing, but poor grammar and sentence structure are making us third worlders. By the way, Steve, your example reminded me of that Twilight Zone episode, "To Serve Man".

Wheel size help?
Both of those wheels would end up in about the same spot on the outside. Keep in mind that tire width will be the main issue-especially if are going larger than 225's. You need to check the inside to make sure there is no interference with the spring/strut. Also, you may have some clearance issues at the front valance with the 8" wheels. I remember seeing a writeup on this somewhere on this site. Out of curiousity, did you go with the vented rotors on the front or the solid ones? I'm planning on the upgrade and am trying to get all the parts in order.

A Car For A Museum or Leno?
I know exactly what you mean. And to me NOT driving it would be a crime. Sorry, but it's a Datsun. If you want to buy a car and not drive it, there should be a prancing horse on the hood.

Odd Noise From Transmission
You should pull the drain plug and see if there are pieces of the bearing races in the fluid (or any other pieces of metal for that matter). The plug should be magnetic and will attract metallic particles.

78 280Z pass side mirror? Cannot find any!
You might want to call him to se if he would sell just the right hand side. I'd imagine that if had enough requests he could buy more of them.
