I like the look of the split bumpers like shown above. Has anyone ever seen them on the Z?

mgood, my wife does scrapbooking, and you can buy a punch that will cut rounded corners. You can probably go on ebay and find one (not sure what they are called). If not, let me know and I'll see if she has an extra one.

I'm assuming that you can change the print when needed, but keep in mind that the "inertia wheel weight" changes with the year of the car. My '73 said "2750" and the hood I just picked up (must be from a later car) says "3000". Those look nice. Depending upon price, I may be hitting you up when I get there.

Pomorza, there are a number of posts relating to this. People HAVE reportedly removed the entire expansion tank apparatus without problems. If you search under "Gas Fumes" or similar you will find them. Some people mention having run the system like that for years without problems. However, there is something to be said for having a place for the fuel to expand to. I'm not really sure how this is accommodated when there is no expansion tank in place.
  5. You can also try sliding a rag or towell between the handle and the panel. You just need to know which is the "open" side of the clip. Do that a couple times and you will pop it off.
  6. Just try backing off the idle adjustment on the carbs (evenly). Hopefully you have a flow meter to sync them. If not you should get one.

Zed head, his car only takes 7-8 gallons from empty to full, so irrespective of what the gauge reads, he is only able to get that much in the tank. Definitely a strange phenomenon. Is there any chance there is something in the tank preventing it from filling completely? As stated above, maybe it's time to drop the tank and find out what the deuce is going on there. If you do that, you should replace all the vent hoses-all 27 different sizes of them.

Wow, that Z went out at a pretty cheap price. I have a set of D caps (in the warehouse, not on my car) that are all chrome and appear to be the old style tabs. Can anyone venture a guess as to what car they came off of?
  9. Thanks duffman. I know one guy that had 14" slot mags that fit, but I would imagine that not all 14" rims have the same interior diameter. Maybe someone here that has used 14's can chime in on the interior size.
  10. I'd like to do this upgrade as well, but I'm not ready to buy larger wheels yet. I've heard that 14" won't clear those calipers. Can anyone verify that?

How about filling a 2 gallon gas tank and putting it in the car. Then drive it until you run out of gas and see how many miles beyond E you got. 2 gallons should get you around 40 miles back.
  12. Sounds like fun. Please try to shoot some video that can be shared with us here. It would be nice to see some Z's and roadsters in action.
  13. I guess what I'm saying is that, in my search for parts to repair my car, it has become apparent that there are quite a bit of parts that will NOT interchange among what "we" call series 1 and series 3 cars. In reading the article it appeared that Nissan had a tough time sourcing the parts-to the point that they had to have them remanufactured. Using different models means they had to repop that many more parts (e.g. center consoles, bumpers, instruments etc.) than they would have had to use with just one model. Here in So Cal, finding salvagable Z bodies does not appear terribly difficult given enough time and patience.
  14. I find it interesting that Nissan did not use a consistent model (e.g. all series 1's or series 3's). With such a low number planned, let alone completed, you'd think they would have wanted some uniformity in the reissues.
  15. Are you saying that its $80.00 for a new radiator? That sounds very cheap. MSA sells them for around $275.00 and I recently bought a 3 row (the same one they sell) for around $225.00. You might check to see how many rows yours has.
  16. Is your distributor advancing the way it should when the weights spool up?

I agree that using the clay bar does a great job removing particles prior to waxing. I also agree that the pricing is rediculous. They would sell much more of the product at even $8.00-$10.00 than they do at $20.00-$28.00. I'll have to do more reading though before I use model clay on the car.

If the old thermostat still works, why not just keep it in? I have a saying, borne by having too many projects to deal with. "If it ain't broke, don't break it."

Bryce, For the speedometer to be correct, you'll also need the speedometer pinion gear. They are different colors depending upon which diff you have. I think I got mine at zspecialties. This has nothing to do with the function of the tranny, just the accuracy of the speedo.

Cozye, I would strongly getting your grill powder coated. If you do a basic color like semi gloss black you can probably have a coater throw it in with other stuff and get a cheap price. I paid $54 to have mine done (soon before I mangled it). I will tell you, that as twisted as the grill was-and I mean the thing is a pretzel-there was no cracking, peeling, chipping, etc.

It should fit. To my knowledge the threads are the same. If not, you could always use a late 4 speed shifter, which will fit the tranny (I have one in my car).

I took my roadster down to the event. After 45 miles on the freeway, my slave cylinder went out (about 1/2 mile from MSA). Driving a car with no clutch is nowhere near as fun as it sounds. I spent about 45 minutes looking at the cars waiting for triple A to show up (some awesome rides there), and then had my car taken to a shop that someone recommended in Westminster. That ended up being a show in itself. The shop owner had a low number Z there with an RB 26, two datsun roadsters, a couple of mini's that were his projects and an early 70's celica with a modern 3 liter turbo supra motor. He was nice enough to put my car in front of the line, and when it was fixed we caravaned back to catch the end of the MSA show. I wish I could have spent more time there, but the toys in his shop and the service were well worth it. If any of you who are down that way are in the area you should look him up. He has events there and occaisionally does dyno runs for the clientele. http://www.jerdevelopment.com/

Andrew, thanks for the offer. At the MSA show yesterday I realized that the 280 supports are different from the 240's. I'll have to keep hunting.

Bill, it was not your gears, it was way too much speed and an unanticipated 90* turn. I should have gone straight and turned around and come back, but wasn't thinking. Hard to believe this car made it back home.

Does anyone here know if the lower radiator support member is available after market? This is spot welded in and makes up the front cross member that completes the "box" at the front end. Thanks for any input.
