I do not wish to start a big debate over the age long question over "who make the best motor oil". I only would like to know if any one has come across a more recent study of motor oil. I have the 2003 Motor Oil Bible and from the searching i have conducted, it seems that everyones opinion on oil quality comes from that study. This has been a very long time ago and many new oil's have come on the market.
  4. I really need to change out the gear oil in my 5 speed transmission and differential. From what i can make out in the owners manual the transmission takes GL-4 and differential GL-5. I cant make sense of what weight oil i should use.

I used BD's door weatherstrip and it installed and fit very good. I have no problem with door closing, just nice and snug :classic:

Thanks warcmalla, this helped me a lot, my main concern is damaging this boot removing it from the door jam. I am pretty sure it will be hard to find a replacement.

Could you tell me the tricks to replacing them without breaking anything

Did not want to put you on the spot on that last question, i have only ordered from MSA and was very displeased with the quality of parts. I needed to replace the ball joints and they sent Korean made piece of junk, i had to use them because i scheduled the time in a friends shop to replace them. I plan not to order anything from them again.

So true, do you think BG or rock auto will have the better quality switch ?

So as i don't break anything, what is the trick to removing the light switch grommet. It looks like rubber that has turned into plastic and will split or brake int a million pieces as soon as i try to pry it off :disappoin

My interior light switch on the drivers side does not work, the passenger side works some of the time. I was looking into replacing them but ran into a problem finding a replacement for the drivers side. MSA has it as a discontinued part and rock auto has one that has 5 leads on it and from reading this form the original should only have 2. Does anyone know where i can get replacements :classic:
  14. If anyone finds somebody that can duplicate this center cap, i will donate it to the cause :classic:
  15. They must have made different caps, i have only one original cap that has all four ears and it does not have a sticker. The snake is a molded part of the cap.
  16. I found center caps and sticker on e-bay, at the time i purchased mine the seller only had a few sets. I did a quick search but could only find the ctr stickers. The sellers e-mail was MASSEY194@ AOL.com, 4 CENTER CAPS FOR INDY WHEELS US MAG 4 EAR 4 LUGS LUG , Item# 350267526133.

To give Kudos to Rock Auto, it turned out that the wrong coil was packaged at the warehouse and they refunded me all cost's.

My coil is just a big clump of rust, i decided to replace it with one from Rock Auto, it was supposed to fit (KEM). First thing i noticed it was about 1/3 the size of the one on my car now. The clamp will not close down enough and allow the mounting bolts to attach to the wheel well. Where can i get one that i will be sure will fit :disappoin
  19. My father was not the best at detailing his cars, just water an a brush. So the bumper and drivers side tail light chrome trim is heavily discolored from exhanst fumes over the years. I was able to clean up the bumper with chrome polish but did not attempt anything on the chrome fearing to damage it further. Any suggestion it as to what i can do the clean it up if possible ?
  20. Is it at all possible to replace the front and rear control arm bushings without having to remove the whole assembly from the car ? I already removed the strut assemblies from the car a few months ago when i replaced the bearings, brakes. struts, ball joints and tie rods and really do not want to take it all apart again :disappoin
  21. Thanks this really helped, having a friend helping also made things easier :classic:
  22. Very nice choice :classic:

Hi, i know this is not related to the Z, but all compressors are built the same and with the Z a lot of rebuilding of original parts have to be done. My son has an '03 cooper s and we replaced the ac compressor last year with a reman unit. last week he called and told me there was a large bang from the engine compartment while taking off from a light and the ac started blowing hot air. When i inspected the unit i noticed that the clutch assembly had come off, i have the compressor unit that was removed earlier and it has the clutch assembly, could i just remove this clutch and install it onto the one on the car ?
