  1. Mine did the same thing, smoked a little and stunk to high heaven for a couple days.
  2. As cozye suggests, this is what i did . You may be a better mechanic that me, i marked everything with numbers so i would remember where they connected. Heat shield and fuel rail was the pain for me.

Is it possible over the years and multiple engine rebuilds my dad could have replaced the dip stick with one from another engine. What is the difference between dip sticks in early and late model 280z-zx's ?
  4. Ditto on Mike W's comments !

I removed the bypass oil system from my car yesterday and replaced the filter and oil. i checked the capacity in two locations 5qts. Added this amount and took the car for a short drive, tuned off the engine and let it sit for a few minutes, checked the level and it was above the F mark on the dip stick. What could be my problem ?

A little follow up on this thread, i ordered this BPT and it does not fit my 77 280z. This one has a solid nipple that looks like a hose attaches to it, mine has a threaded boss that attaches to a steel line that comes from intake manifold below the EGR Valve.
  11. Hi FastWoman, i removed mine thinking it did not function and my car started stalling out at redlights, reinstalled it and the stalling went away. I searched and could not find a new one because mine looks like crap also.

Glad you figured it out, yes the bullet connector is the temp sensor that is attached to your gauge. The one you bought from Rock Auto is the one that hooks into your computer.

Can anyone tell me if this BPT Valve will work on my 1977 Z http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/15-6182
  16. Welcome to the club.
  17. What then is the difference between the two CSI's that are listed at rock Auto to work on my 77 280z. (1) CJ33 (2) CJ47 ?
  18. Thanks, rtaylor that really sucks about the dent.
  19. I have half of my vinyl is loose on my headliner, is it a PITA like the older Z's to repair :disappoin
  20. I have a similar timing problem with my 1977 280z, i recently purchased a light and decided to check the timing, i had no idea what i would find, this was my dads car and he did or had done so much back yard mechanics it would make your head spin. i marked the 10 BDC mark and crankshaft pulley notch, I warmed up the car, shut it down disconnected the vacuum advance hose and plugged it off, attached the light and started the car. The crankshaft mark was not even aligning with the timing mark bracket, as best as i could estimate 30 BDC. I could not turn the distributor enough to get the timing set correct :disappoin
  21. Thanks, i will check it out.
  22. I purchased the coolant temp sensor from MSA, where would you suggest me getting one from ?
  23. I am lost then because all the connectors have been replace with ones from that seller on ebay, i have cleaned the TPS and AFM plugs and added dielectric grease to them all :disappoin
  24. I really can't figure this car out, after replacing the coolant temp sensor with one from MSA, i hope it is the correct one, adjusted the idle to 900 rpm, cleaned and reinstalled the dash pot, checked and replaced all vacuum lines. The weather has been great and i have been driving the car to work and it has not stalled and idles smoother than eclipse. yesterday i took it to work and down to my mother and it stalled again and took two times to get it started and it ran rough as usual. What the heck is going on with this thing ? :disappoin
  25. Welcome to the Z club again :classic:
