It looks like hybridz.com is gone? Anyone know anything? mark
  3. Pictures... Good? Bad?
  4. Cool... I'll buy two... BUT: do you have any additional input on all of this? What do YOU think is wrong, if anything? Mark
  5. Where would one get a correct return spring?
  6. I know he wasn't trying to be funny, I appreciate all input on this topic... I did disconnect the springs and clean/lube them... I thought MAYBE they were all gummed up and sticking to themselves. That did not help. They LOOK correct. They do not seem to require a great deal of force to start to expand... and they do not seem to have any sort of "curve" to their spring rate that would make them tougher at the start... BUT I am willing to revisit the spring thing... and I'll post pics of them too... Mark
  7. Funny... (not) The fact of the matter is there is really no way to make this work short of wedging my foot against the tranny tunnel and levering it to push the gas pedal in an uber-controlled way... not practical and not entirely effective in any case.. Thinking of Webers at this point... (and i don't really want to go that route...)
  8. This is my 1st Z... it IS difficult to drive comfortably as-is...
  9. Ok... so I spent an hour or so playing with this throttle problem and... no joy. I disconnected the linkages close to the carbs and verified that they, and all of the linkages from the gas pedal to the carbs, move freely and are lubricated. I pulled off the air cleaner and sprayed some carb cleaner up into the carbs (after raising the dampener thingy out of the way) There was a good amount of black carbon on the inside of the air cleaner and in the throat of the carbs. I shot 4 more (smaller this time) videos... they are .mov files so you might need QuickTime to view them? - sorry... http://www.woytovich.com/transfer/z the new videos are carb3, 4, 5 & 6 #6 shows the choke being pulled... no problem there.... it does something different when sending fuel to the carbs... a clue maybe? #5 asks about maybe some vacuum issue #4 is just showing the dampener moving Mark
  10. There was no stall... very nice idle... theN when trying to press the accelerator very gently, as when pulling away from a stop in a senior citizen sorta way, I get nothing...nothing as I add pressure to the pedal (or linkage between the carbs with the linkage back towards the pedal disconnected)... then I get ZOOM... sudden RPMs.. There doesn't seem to be any "room" for the low fuel delivery needed for those low, off idle, RPMs. This problem shows itself between gears too if I let the RPMs drop while the clutch is in (while shifting)
  11. The insides of thed carbs were cleaned completely when the werfe off... but I'll take a look again...
  12. With the air cleaner off am I likely to be able to see if the butterflies are sticking?
  13. I understand that there is no direct link... I thought that IF the needle was sticking it would take longer for it to move... Thanks... I'll keep watching here for any other insights but I'll be a cleaning and lubing fool on Sunday! THANK YOU
  14. Well the linked article does do that, adjust the ratio (well at least the force required to make that first little movement) I have lubed it all (and it was all apart when I pulled the carbs to clean out 25 years of thick old fuel) There is no APPARENT binding when moving the parts individually by hand... but i WILL revisit all of that. Another thought... could there be a problem with the needle (bent/friction) and/or dampening (sp) oil (too thin) in the carbs? Mark
  15. Thanks for the info and I will take a look at this once I'm back to the car on Sunday... but I'm thinking it is something else. If you look at the video you'll see that it happens even with the linkages back towards the firewall disconnected... ...but wait... are you saying that the behavior of the carbs and their throttle levers is corfrect and that the problem is that the movement of the linkages can be adjusted to make their movement through the first 1/2 inch slower... therefore making off idle acceleration smoother?
  16. Take a look at the video below. I am experiencing a problem with the linkages or carb setting on my 71 240z with original carbs. The symptom is that when stepping on the pedal (or pushing the linkage by hand) there is some resistance just before the linkage starts to move and then it "surges" so that I go from idle to higher RPMs rather than being able to gradually increase RPMs... this does not APPEAR to be binding in the linkages... but I can't be sure. http://www.woytovich.com/transfer/z/ sorry for the large videos... I'll repost them smaller later... Any thoughts? Mark
  17. Can you email me a picture please? mark@woytovich.com
  18. I'm looking into some options for getting these made. I had some success having a "group-buy" of grill badges made for the vintage Toyota crowd (I was thinking of the same for the Datsun world).. I'm going to see what I can drum up for center caps too.... Mark
  19. He seems to have them... sure would like to find the Shelby stickers
  20. So I had been looking for replacement caps for the corroded "Shelby" plastic center caps that came on my 240... mine are mounted with 4 screws into the wheel face and have proven difficult to find... so today I decided to find out what a little steel wool would do to them - hoping it wouldn't destroy them. Wow! While they are far from perfect they will all clean up to serviceable level... now I have to find replacement stickers for the center... sure would like "Shelby" stickers.

Thanks all... that's pretty much what I suspected... I guess I'll post it on ebay and let the market decide...

This switch came out of a 72 240z... can anyone tell me if it was factory, a dealer installed option or aftermarket? And what, if any, value it has... Thanks, Mark
  23. yup...
  24. So after deciding that the cover they were selling was NOT going to be the same one as the "good" ones sold elsewhere I canceled my order. I based this on reading online complaints against the seller that said the covers were junk, didn't fit or never arrived. I had paid with paypal. I filed a complaint w/PP when I couldn't get in touch with the company via email or phone. When I did eventually get them on the phone they were willing to cancel the order and refund the $ (they saw the unanswered emails and the paypal complaint but had not responded to any of them until I was speaking with them on the phone.) My recommendation: stay away from this company... and always do some research before buying from an unknown source like this. I've learned MY lesson.
  25. I ordered from thecarcover.com. I have not rec'd my cover yet (but it's not late yet either). I have done some more digging (that I SHOULD have done BEFORE ordering and while there website has pages describing the covercraft covers and the Technalon covers I think that might be a scam of sorts. They are providing an INFO page but they are not saying directly that they sell these covers... I will know when I get mine I guess... Crap. Mark
