Ignition Coil missing
I sourced an ignition coil from my local (good) auto parts place... I'm not confident it's right. I expected a cylinder shaped coil like this: and instead they gave me one like in this picture: The part number on the box is Beck Arnley 178-8025 but the number on the coil is Diamond FTM-063GT Help! Mark .

Are these of interest to period perfect purists? (I posted pics of it to the Photobucket Album)

I haven't checked for dry rot on the tires yet... they are all "new" from when it was parked in 1985. I'm sure I'll want to replace them before it goes on the road. It looks like the spark plugs are clean too... maybe they were also new then.

Stock 71 240z engine pictures
Thanks guys... I've been on this forum for 2 days and I've already learned a whole lot... I WOULD like to clean up the caps (the plumbing pipe cap looks bad) and take out the air rail (if it'll come out - a job for PB Blaster no doubt). Are there known plug sizes and/or sources for nice looking plugs?

Stock 71 240z engine pictures
"My dad informed me that all the smog stuff was removed from this one." Thanks for the before AND after pics... can you (or your dad) tell me what all was removed and what was done, if anything, to compensate? Alternate routing of vac lines? Carb or timing adjustments? Has it been a "successful" desmog? Mark

Stock 71 240z engine pictures
My engine appears to be "desmogged"... is there an accepted process for this on these engines? (I know there are accepted "instructions" for the motors in my other vintage vehicle obsession, Toyota Land Cruisers)

Stock 71 240z engine pictures
I'm looking for detailed pics of a truly stock 1971 engine... restored to stock is fine too. I am getting a 71 that I need to just get running before I consider upgrades to the engine and I want o be able to see what is missing or has been modified... These are pics of what I have... Thanks, Mark

Ignition Coil missing
1985 Thanks for the info. Is there a list of any sort of "good" online parts vendors for OEM new and/or used parts? Do the Nissan dealers stock any parts?

Ignition Coil missing
Can anyone chime in on what else looks to be missing in the picture... looks like a plug wire, and some plumbing pipe cap and other plugs up top... what's all that about? removed emissions stuff? IT looks like the air hose into the air rail is capped...? Probably means the "smog pump" is disconnected/missing/non-functional? Boy do I need a Factory Service Manual and a bunch of diagrams for this thing right away! Mark

HLS30-29673 I'm on Long Island but in Manhattan alot. I'm active in the vintage Toyota Land Cruiser world (I have a 78FJ40 and an 85FJ60). We have a club for that, www.gclcny.com, that I started 10 years ago. I'm VERY excited about the 240Z...

Ignition Coil missing
I just picked up a 71 240z in stock configuration... but it's missing the coil. I'm a newbie to Zs... is this a standard item I can get at the dealer or a parts store? Any reason to look at some upgraded coil? This is going to stay a stock, street car... Thanks, Mark

Just today I bought my first Z... it's a stock 71 240z. It's been sitting, untouched, in a heated garage since 1985! To tell you the truth I have not actually put eyes on it yet. I'm relying on pictures and a look-over by a good friend of mine. It is 99% rust free, the seats are trash but the rest of the interior is reportedly in good shape. It is reportedly all original, unrestored. 90k on the clock. It has not been run since '85. No keys either. And it's missing the coil and coil wire (maybe more, I'll know on Saturday when I get it delivered). I'll have 10 million newbie questions I'm sure... Any comments would be welcome. Mark
