  3. Just to be sure, you said you can't move the shift lever. Did you try rotating the input or output shaft? If it's in two gears at the same time the shafts won't move either. Everything gets locked up. So I'd use the "one gear" method to put the front case on, then rotate the shafts to make sure everything's okay. Then put the tail shaft housing on.
  4. You need to put it in one gear before putting the front case on to the adapter plate. Otherwise the case will push both shift rods as the rods slide through the holes and it ends up in two gears at the same time. Common problem. Pick a gear that already has one of the rods pushed backward in the adapter plate, then the detents won't allow the other to move.

  9. I only see Wednesday 3/31, then today, Friday, 4/2. 4/1 was yesterday, Thursday but there's no posts. Looks like the "100" was a typo or maybe a modification. One question I'd have is who decides that these numbers are "918"? Could be a computer analysis on a faded 918 chip that somebody put in the "system". Who decides that it's "official"? Dupont is not involved they just supply the materials.

    That shoe has been chewed. The chain might be riding on the metal piston. This is probably what BarefootDan's looked like before the chain jumped the sprocket and let his valves meet the pistons.
  11. Found another one like it. Number 5 didn't do so well here. Basically, just Japanese flat track, but on pavement instead of clay.
  12. I thought it might be one of those "deep fakes" but it's way too complex. Watch the 2nd place guy at 3:55. Seems like the bike was built for the track and the others were there just to make a point, according to one of the posters. Makes sense. That's why he started last. "Jaws" only had problems when he got in to the paint.

    That was my point. I'm just saying do the math first. That motor looks beat upon. Good luck. Take a picture of the side of the head where "N42" is cast in. You can tell if the head has already been shaved/skimmed by the distance from the bottom. While you're there you might as well check flatness. If it's been overheated (likely) it might be warped.

    Seals just get pressed in until they are flush with the surface they are being inserted in to. That's about it. Tap, tap, tap around the edges or on a blcok of wood on top of the seal. Done when the front edges are flush. Here;s a picture from the 73 FSM showing your slinger/thrower and key, as they should be. The early FSM's with their pictures are sometimes better than the drawings. Since the key is circular on the bottom you could take a wide punch or steel bar (or brass or aluminum) and just tap/beat on the raised portion of the key to try to break it free. It's raised up in the back because it rode up the back of the keyway on the curved bottom when the last guy installed the damper. Or, since you have a new slinger you could just bend that old one out of the way to give you more room and tap the key from the back.
  21. That area is easy access. Try the sealant, if it leaks, go for the removal. It sees the same pressure and vacuum as the valve cover gasket. If it snapped while installing though, it should be very easy to back out. Unless you used thread-locker. Shouldn't even need to drill it. Why would would you even torque those little screws? Maybe you confused inch-pounds with foot-pounds? Those are tighten to feel screws. But I see the Allen head. You can apply a lot of force through an Allen head.

    One of your pictures, and the damage you've found, made me wonder about the camshaft. Might be a performance, high lift cam. A picture will tell, look for new stamps on the ends. The lobes will have a smaller base circle if it's a regrind. Detonation causes damage that looks like foreign object damage. Might be that somebody built a "race" engine. Check your head also to see if it's been shaved.
