loose Distributor CAP = Perfect idle
I would start reading from this page in the FSM, below. The Turbo system has a lot of interconnected parts. The ECU has lights that flash when it goes in and out of closed loop control. Closed loop is where the O2 sensor comes in to play. You could probably watch the light while the engine warms up and see if things change when the light starts flashing. When you talk about what's going on it would be better to tell what the engine temperature is, instead of a "a while". Engine temperature controls when things happen. It's kind of a complex system that takes some real study to understand. That's why Nissan developed the Analyzer. Search for cgsheen's comments. He always recommends Megasquirt. He knows how the ECCS system works though. Are you sure the turbo isn't jammed? Your 30 mph limit sounds like something's blocking your exhaust flow.

I need help with a electrical issue on my 1976 Datsun 280z
What did you do to the engine and car, gas tank, fuel lines, fuel pump, injector system, etc., before you tried to start it? I had an engine once that only sat for a year and it wouldn't start until we put oil in the cylinders. The rings get dry and there's poor compression. Plus your injectors might be full of bad fuel, even water. 12 years is a long time.

Just posting this as a reminder. The ECU still doesn't learn but it's not a 280Z ECU. Should have an O2 sensor also. And the CAS in the distributor. Turbo ZX stuff.

He's probably hooning around the neighborhood. Maybe it was just out of gas. Looks like it had spark all along.

Obviously, somebody is hiding something. See how they slipped the symbol off and hoped no one would notice? We all should have seen that from the beginning. Also just noticed the Beverly Hills Car Club will put their stickers and plate frames on anything.

Certified color! That's good right? They say clamato like it means something. Oops, it does. I thought this crazy stuff was new but it's been going on a long time. 1935. Hmmm, this tomato juice needs something... aha... clam juice (whatever that is). Refined by chemists. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clamato

Somebody gave their hangover cure a name? Take clam juice, tomato juice, worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, lime, and Tabasco. Mix with ice, and top with a mass-produced lager. There you have it https://oct.co/essays/what-are-cheladas-101

Should have said something sooner. Doesn't need restoring though. Not mine, just saw it a while ago. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1976-yamaha-rd400c-2/

FS5W71B Rebuild Thread - Tips tricks and discoveries!
There is a bad database out there that somebody created for the Z car transmission parts. Apparently everyone uses it because the same errors are shown by everybody. It's kind of illuminating about how the car parts market works. There is another about CV axles for the 240Z.

I probably over-wrote as I tend to do. But I thought that this side-by-side with a 240Z pretty well nailed it. It was derived from your first comment. Nobody is going to swap rear shock towers. The top one is from a guy that's restoring a 240Z. The next is from the Beverly Hills pictures. I don't think anyone can argue with rear shock towers. The work in the engine bay is just very good transfer of parts from a 280Z or the complete front end from a 280Z. Should also say that we're starting to repeat things that others have already said. Just saying.

Datsun 240Z Registry of America - Phillip A. Ray
One issue might be having everyone's name out there on the internet. Maybe post the list without the names if that's an issue. Just so people know the cars exist.

I wonder what "use" means in legal terms. I'm not suggesting that people share it if the originator does not want it shared. But those words kind of look like they were just put there to suggest ownership, with no professional legal mind behind them. What would the copyright cover? It's just a list of numbers and names. I think he could claim ownership and limited usage of the spreadsheet. But then why would it be downloadable? Just talking... https://www.copyright.gov/

Question on coolant lines around carbs
People do odd things to try to solve odd issues. Sometimes based on a misunderstanding of how things work. If you're going to round-tops and live down south I'd do what siteunseen/Cliff said in reply your other posts. Those old pieces of heater hose will remain a mystery. According to your diagram it's even worse than the typical heater core bypass. What your diagram shows is taking hot coolant straight out of the thermostat, after it's traveled through the head collecting heat, just before it enters the radiator and running it back to the water pump with all of its heat. Might be that somebody just connected a bunch of loose hoses together so they wouldn't flop around in the back of the truck. Or maybe the engine is from the north and it's the equivalent of cardboard on the radiator.

Question on coolant lines around carbs
I remembered your other post and was connecting them, for other people to see. It's a common thing around various forums that multiple posts on essentially the same topic is "bad form". But you can do it if you want to. As opposed to bad form, good form is to supply pictures of what you're working on. In your case, a 5/8" hose connecting to your thermostat housing would be huge. Essentially like having a heater core hose connected there. It would be something interesting to see. And, for what it's worth, a thermostat would not normally be called a sensor. And, are you sure it's a thermostat? It might be a pressure relief valve. Maybe that was covered in your other thread, I didn't read the whole thing, I just pasted the link, for convenience. Whatever is going on there is unusual and might be an attempt to fix some other problem.

Question on coolant lines around carbs
- Brakes work but pedal is soft
Just a thought, while things are apart - many/several of us have found machining grit in our various aftermarket hydraulic parts. Slave cylinders and both type of master cylinder (clutch or brake), along with just bad seals from the start. You might disassemble that MC and see how the seals and bore look. It's pretty easy to do. There are three seals, two to create pressure and one to keep the fluid in the cylinder if the back pressure seal leaks. So you can have an internal leak - pressure loss, no obvious fluid leakage - without having an external leak - obvious fluid leakage. Or, of course, just to be safe, you could replace it if you got it locally. Even if you do that though, disassembling and cleaning before installation is a good idea. Or, 2nd, you could just reassemble and see what happens.- Things could be worse. Perspective?
They were probably going 10 mph. Just goes to show that, like that other post, a flashlight does not replace a headlight. Head-on golf cart crash. I assume that no alcohol was involved. It's a golf course. https://www.yahoo.com/sports/cristie-kerr-recalls-cart-accident-231611267.html I can’t remember whether I hit the steering wheel or not. Like I swear to God we were being careful. It was pitch black. No lights. There was a cart that was rounding the corner from the range and I could see that, because that cart had headlights and our cart did not,” she said. “I was using the flashlight to lead the way. We were going three-quarters of the speed. We were both out making sure we were on the path, and had to move over just a touch left to miss the other cart coming our direction. We just hit this thing smack on. “We were both thrown from the cart, and I just I can’t remember. I remember landing, I remember the impact, and — I’m sorry.”- Z's on BAT and other places collection
Can't keep up, missed this one. Green. Looks pretty good. 4 days to go. No Reserve: 1971 Datsun 240Z L28 5-Speed https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1971-datsun-240z-162/- Reproduction Engine ID / Vin Number Plate
Here's some examples. Looks like Nissan had their stamping act together by the late 70's. Make sure the upper rivets touche the top of the N and D, and don't overlook the little 1 (edit - I found one with a 6. A new puzzle) in the bottom right corner. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1977-datsun-280z-7/ https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1977-datsun-280z-7/ This one has a 6 though. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1977-datsun-280z-47/- Z's on BAT and other places collection

I think you guys are right. I also realized another simple one after staring at those pictures. 240Z's only have one strut holding up the hatch lid, 280Z's have two. Well, that was fun. Somebody put a lot of work in to turning a 240Z in to, essentially, a 280Z. This is a 78 with the raised deck. And a 75 just to top it off. The 240Z style caps on the 280Z tall strut towers. With two hatch lid struts. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1975-datsun-280z-26/- Z's on BAT and other places collection
