COVID-19
And we haven't even hit the big holidays yet. Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years Eve. There is some thought that just Halloween activities have caused some increase in spread. Walking the neighborhood with the little spreaders in their costumes. I wish there was more info on how to survive it if you get it. WA, OR and CA are coordinating quarantining and travel advisories. I'm not sure though, that these guys really understand how long two weeks is. What we need is more testing. https://spectrumnews1.com/ca/san-fernando-valley-ventura/coronavirus/2020/11/13/california-issues-travel-advisory-along-with-oregon--washington https://komonews.com/news/coronavirus/washington-asks-all-incoming-travelers-to-self-quarantine-for-14-days https://covidactnow.org/us/washington-wa?s=1318327

"Brand new" 280Z
Kind of a goofy question, but did you remove the struts and inspect the insides? Check oil level and oil quality and seals? Did you regrease the u-joints? Also, did you change the engine oil, and if you did, did you use high zinc (ZDDP) oil? At 355 miles the engine is barely broken in. The car is almost more interesting in seeing what happens to those old parts over time. If somebody decides to drive it will the seals disintegrate?

The roll pin holding the fork has been known to loosen up or fall out. The fork from a 4 speed would work. Somebody will have a used fork on the forum or eBay. Hard to imagine that you won't be able to find one. You can figure out a lot without tearing it down very far. Once you get the front case off you can manipulate the shift rods and forks and gears and see what's happening. Then you'll know how deep to go. Plus it might save on having a pro fix it if it's half torn down already. You can always do what a typical Z owner does and just buy a whole transmission, fix the other one anyway, and feel good knowing that you have a spare. Then buy another shell to put all your spare parts in.

Z's on BAT and other places collection
I see now. I looked for the VIN over there and the title info in the text. Kind of looks like somebody is just selling an old car, not a 240Z. Good for the buyer. I'd take bets that the ad goes down and comes back up with a different price and more info about the car.

It doesn't look too bad. Actually looks like it probably looked good when it was parked. I wonder if it has a title. Lost titles aren't easy in Washington state. Somebody better buy it before some good samaritan tells him about BAT. @Mike

Yours are working. I meant Jeff Berk's other posts when I pasted his bipod link. He had tagged on to pogden's thread.

Ownallday just did his. It takes some specialized tools and some knowledge about mechanical stuff. You might not have to go that far. The clutch forks are easy to get to once the front case is removed. But if you find a bearing like Ownallday's it gets more complicated.

Future of driving a "classic" car
The scientists aren't always right though. Anyone remember "peak oil theory"? Gas prices are supposed to be so high now due to limited supply that we all want electric vehicles just so we can afford to get around.

We can wait and see what happens or learn to swim. Like with COVID and the places that are waiting until it's too late then just suffering through the situation that they could have avoided. Similar thinking, different time frames. The scientists have been right.- A tale about a whale - 50th Anniversary, remastered video
The old bulldozer is pretty cool. You'd think a Cadillac would be a place of safety.- 240Z Factory battery cable

DC8 is saying that he doesn't believe this. And he has a point. How do we know what to believe? But, that is also the tool that the current administration is trying to use to stay in power. Making everything seem unbelievable until people just give up and listen to the guy that says he'll take care of everything. In the end people just have to do their own homework, and decide what to believe. Which is really supposed to be the core of a democracy, the sum of the individual views and decisions. Nobody should be believing something just because they saw it on the internet or TV channel. Mass media has always been about manipulating people, to buy the goods that they're selling through advertising.- Future of driving a "classic" car
Here's some humor, regarding the extremes of the labels. Who in society is the most ultra conservative, taking absolutely no help from government? A homeless person. They should be role models, something to aspire to. And, Elon Musk is the ultimate troll. He got the richest most conservative conservatives to drive electric cars (actually I can't prove this I just assumed it. But that's how things are done these days, although I am 99% sure that Elon Musk is an ultra conservative. So maybe he's actually trolling the "progressives" and making money from them). How can that be? And now he's selling solar panels. Why? Just burn the natural gas. There's enough to last years. https://www.tesla.com/- Future of driving a "classic" car
I don't think that old labels even work anymore. The media uses the names to stir things up and keep viewers entertained but they don't really stand for anything specific. They're just names that people use to insult other people. As soon as you see the names come up you know that the conversation is dying.- Future of driving a "classic" car
I agree. Somewhere between "I don't see anything, my beach looks the same" and "100 years from now" we'll be underwater, there's probably a sweet spot. Al Gore is a politician, not a scientist.- Future of driving a "classic" car
Science made the DC-8 possible. Science is about collecting data and applying rational thought to what it shows. At the higher levels you just have to trust the scientists and the institution of science. Like you trusted the guys that built your plane. The engineers got their numbers from science. The chemists made the fuel based on science. The engine materials were developed using science. I think that the basic problem most people have with the "global warming" issue is "why should I worry about what's going to happen 40 years from now? I'll be dead". It seems like the deniers are older and the worriers are younger. Which makes sense, from a selfish perspective. The older people don't have to care, because they'll be dead, and the younger people do, because they inherit the mess. So, just like wearing a face covering in public so you don't get COVID and be a burden on society in the hospital, or pass it along so that someone else's life is affected, it's really about letting other people live a life worth living. In the short-term or the long-term.- Z's on BAT and other places collection
Pretty sure that Hung Vu will sell to anybody. If you can figure out how to reach him. Doesn't seem to have a web site. http://vintagedashes.blogspot.com/ https://www.facebook.com/pages/category/Automotive--Aircraft---Boat/Vintage-Dashes-1868865246759772/ https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/61331-vintage-dashes-280z/- COVID-19
Another new web tool for assessing risk. Haven't had a chance to dig in to it but the concept seems interesting. Except that in the big scheme of things it might lead to the unintended consequence of driving people to the areas that are/were low-risk. Possibly carrying virus to the uncontaminated areas. Who knows. Probably also gives a false sense of security. Party until the risk level rises. https://covid19risk.biosci.gatech.edu/- Z's on BAT and other places collection
I was serious, I thought it was about right. An old refurb'ed 1978 280Z, mid 30's price. Seems right. I still think that other guy should have taken the $111,000 for the 240Z. And, no offense, or sarcasm, I'm glad you don't work for me too. I sense trouble... 😦- Z's on BAT and other places collection
$35,350 for a 119,000(?) mile 78 280Z isn't bad. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1978-datsun-280z-78/ - Future of driving a "classic" car
