  1. The difference in length of the push rod may explain why your clutch would engage with so little travel. I remember replacing mine and ran into a similar situation. I wondered if the new one would need a parts swap. I went with the all new one and had no problems. Hopefully yours will do the same.
  2. I had the problem twice of going out and having no clutch pedal pressure. The first time there was no obvious puddle under the slave, so I figured since I just got the car, maybe it had been on the low side I hadn't noticed. So filled the reservoir up, and bled the system with my mini-vac, great for one person. Next time, there was a puddle. So I needed to replace it. I just replaced the slave and it has worked out fine. The master shows no signs of degrading faster because of just replacing the slave. So, if you don't have the time/money/space/etc to replace the MC, I wouldn't sweat it for now. Wait until the time is right. Eric
  3. Hey Dave, Love the car and even more the fact that it was free! I had a similar experience where I was able to pick up a "67 VW bug for $200 because the PO thought the motor was shot and was tired of working on it. Turned out all I did was spend about a $100 in tune parts and it ran great. Sold it for $2000 within the month. That was because the ex said I had too many projects and I had to pick one to go. Pretty good turn around for me. I noticed in the article you have posted at Car Domain, that your thinking of selling this come end of summer. With as nice as it's coming along so far, I would hate to see that happen. All three look good together! I also followed both links for the head light harness. Are you still selling them? I would rather send you the money directly than MSA. They've made enough off me these last few months and I'm sure I will still order more, but it would be nice to deal directly with a club member. My lights did the dimming thing at idle and I have been looking for alternator upgrades to try to address it. Haven't found anything I liked and if this will solve my problem as well as making the system safer, then this is the way I'll go. Let me know. Eric

Hi April! Welcome to the club and it is great to see that a woman can and is so enthusiastic about Z's. I love the idea that you discovered the car and are getting in there and working on it. I read Rick's thoughts on women being included more in the club, and others in general, and it got me thinking about my fiancé. She made the comment to me the other night after I had been reading about some threads dealing with mufflers. She didn't quite get why I was so worked up about what muffler to go with, other than to make it quieter. My problem is that here in WI you are not supposed to have anything other than OEM exhaust systems and can get quite a hefty ticket if you don't. I've avoided the ticket aspect, but twice now the trippers don't like the after market muffler the car came with. I don't want to lose the sound it has too much and also don't want to lose performance. She didn't get the performance aspect. I sat there trying to think of a way to explain it to her with out being in lecture mode, which she and my kids both accuse me of doing at times. I realized that shortly after we had started seriously dating the car went into the shop for body work and a custom paint job. We never really had the oppertunity to go out in it together because of winter coming on. Maybe if she had had the chance to ride in it, she would have a bit better of an idea what a joy they are. Once I get it back, we have some drives planned, so maybe she can understand my passion for the car. That and try to encourage her to join the club might help as well. At least she indulges me! So, again welcome!

Hi everyone! I joined a few months back, before I dropped my car off at the shop for winter storage and a restore. This is the second 1973 240Z that I have owned. The first was in college and I still regret the day I sold her. It has been a long 20 years in getting one again. I was thrilled beyond belief to be driving one again the day that I got to take her out. I was sad yet excited to drop her off at the custom shop 7 long months ago. She needed some repair and a new paint job. Little did I know just how much repair would be required. Got a message today saying hopefully by end of next week she will be done. Then to the muffler shop for a new exhaust. Hopefully after that I won't get pulled over anymore for too loud of an exhaust. The troppers here in WI apparently don't like small fast cars that sound "too loud". If it isn't OEM, then you can get a ticket. Like they really know what OEM was for a '73. Unfortunately they do know that what is on it now, wasn't available then. Oh well. Then to have part of the electrical system redone. It has a Crane Fireball electronic ignition system in it now, along with an engine start button. That has given me a few headaches, so I'm replacing it with the S2000 start button and cleaning up a few things. I'm sure I'll find other things to add to the list, but that is the overall plan for now. At least once it leaves the shop, I should be able to drive it to it's next appointments. Yeah!! Hopefully I will have added some pictures here. If not, then check out my gallery and you will see some of the before and some of the during. Wish me luck that she starts easy after sitting for 7 months.

I did ask about the e-brake and his response was that it should just hook up fine. What bothers me is the word should. As far as the benefit gained, not really an issue. I'm going a little more for my asthetics and some performance. This is why I also don't want to spend around $800 that I have seen some kits go for. I would like something reasonable in price, looks and performance. Haven't decided what to get yet. The question still remains though. Do I need the other parts or not?

Hi, I have a '73 240Z that I would like to add rear disc brakes to. I have found this kit on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280487850819&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT My question is if I go with this option, do I need to also upgrade my master cylinder to the larger 280Z bore and or do I need to add a new proportioning valve? I have tried to do some research on this and can't find a definite answer. My feeling for this kit, since it is just using maxima calipers and 280Z rotors, is no. But, I would rather have a consensus before I start this and find that I should have. The car is just about ready to come out of it's winter hibernation, body restoration, and custom paint job. It's been about 7 months in the making and I can barely wait. Once I get more time, I'll post pics of the process and the final results. Thanks for the help!!

I have a '73 240Z and I am 6' 4", medium build with a 36" inseam. I fit great! Granted my Corbeau seats have to go all the way back, but nobody will ever complain being behind me, expect maybe other cars.
  9. Hi, haven't ever replied or posted here before, but I had to on this one. I am currently doing a partial restore of my '73 240Z and am at the $6000 mark. Probably more than that but I like to think so anyway. That's what I paid for the car in what appeared to be great condition. The car you have pictured is in the 280Z family, what year I couldn't say. The problem is that it is quite obvious this has been through a fire. Even if I were given the car free, I don't know that the money/time/effort spent would be worth it. My opinion only. Take it for what it's worth. There may be some parts worth salvaging, but not to take that and try to restore it. There are a lot of great project cars still out there at reasonable prices. Most of those at least run.
