    Maybe you mean circumference?

Because of another thread you posted, I talked to Jeff Winter about my triple Weber problems and he was unbelievably helpful over the phone. Answered all my questions. Extremely knowledgable and friendly attitude. Rare. Thanks, Victor.
  4. tanny Not very original. Around 1900 Italian immigrant grandfather changed his name from Iannidinardo to Tanny(Irish) to try to fit into the Irish neighborhood where they lived. I inherited the name in 1950. Vic Tanny's gyms, bla, bla, bla. Exciting. Let me take a guess at Bambikiller reasons: You like to kill those poor little soft eyed yearlings and forks. Excellent! Great eating. Sorry if I'm wrong and you are a vegan and belong to PETA. I worked for Colorado Div. of Wildlife for 20 years(raising trout) and take great pleasure from hunting and fishing. Great moniker. Oops, didn't realize the name was your car. Guess you must have hit a deer at some point.

I assume that was a typo and the 260z front springs are longer than the 240z. Wouldn't mind if it was the other way around and the z would have a slightly "dumped" look. Thanks. Victor. I did call this Jeff Winter about my triple Webers and he was extremely helpful and knowledgable. Answered all my questions and had a great attitude. Seems to know pretty much everything there is to know about the z. Really nice to talk to a mechanic who isn't in a rush to get rid of you when you're not paying for the information. I definitely will take the z to this guy if I need anything done. Thanks for the recommendation.

XYZ, I don't know much about the springs on the early 260's. Maybe I'll ask on this site and see iff there is a giant difference or if it is alright to use the front springs on a 240. I would give them a try if I could use all 4. I have another question for you: Do you know of anybody with a 240 with triple Weber dcoe 40's that lives at our high altitude? Do you know anyone(mechanic, individual, etc.) up there that has worked much with Webers on these Z's. I need to change the acceleration jetting(bogs down really badly when accelerator is stomped) and was hoping to find a person who has already figured it out. It gets expensive to experiment with those jets. Hate to buy a bunch of jets that I can't use. Haven't really driven the Z on the highway yet because it's not insured or registered yet, but I can't imagine that it would do very well on the snow at all. What kind of setup do you have on your Z? Stock?

Thanks for the info. I had already found Arizona Z and those springs he offers look like the only option. Didn't really want the stiff ride but the ride height where we live is more important. Live several miles off highway on dirt roads with plenty of bumps, so springs that lower the car(read bottom scraping) and increase ride harshness(read washboard kidney death) are NOT fun.

Where would I get springs made that wouldn't break the bank? I live in the sticks(Durango, CO). Can the stock springs be re tempered? Where?

Everyone had some excellent bits of advice, especially escanlon when he says that future employers want to see that piece of paper showing you've run the gauntlet. Like escanlon says, the 4 year degree shows the employer that you have persevered, are able to set a goal and give up some things to get what you want. One false assumption is that you will somehow become more "intelligent" once you have obtained your degree. Totally wishful thinking. Maybe more knowledgeable in a very narrow field, but not more intelligent. The degree is this society's pass to more opportunity. I agree that if you don't complete your college now, it is usually much harder to do it once you receive all of life's responsibilities. But this also means that if you avoid doing what you really love to do(auto mechanics or whatever) now, you may get snagged into some profession(and feel obligated to stay in that profession because of family responsibilities) that you don't really like as much, and may make great money, etc., but you can be guaranteed you will always regret or at least wonder what it would have been like to do what you truly love and have fun doing. Always do what you love to do(providing it doesn't fry your brain permanently or give you more than a few minor STD's), NOT necessarily what people think you should do, however well intentioned they are. As a parent of two teenagers, I would never think of discouraging my kids from persuing a technical career, if that was what they showed a great love and aptitude for. I went to college in the sixties, and if I could remember, I'm sure everything they say is true about having fun at college. Good luck, and make sure you maintain a sense of humor, the most valuable asset of all.

Used or new. I figured the likelihood of finding new ones for any reasonable price would be slim, but thought I would try. The springs that came with the car not only lowered the car, but they also leave my kidneys on the street. Thanks.

Looking for all 4 STOCK coil springs for a 73 240z. Thanks, Victor. tanny@frontier.net

Yes, an increase in bodily fat percentage will make you float more easily, since fat is less dense than muscle tissue. Definitely an evolutionary advantage when lost at sea(not to mention the insulation value and energy reserves that increase with increasing fat). Also, the fat will take up more volume per pound than muscle tissue, so circumference will probably have to increase if height does not increase. Later.

One more question on the soldering: Do you have to clear some paint from around the hole to give the solder purchase, or is the thickness of the metal around the hole enough surface for the solder to adhere to? Never have done any bodywork at all except a few small clumps of bondo and spray paint.

Do both of the stock front coil springs on a 240 have the same specs or are they different from each other? Also, what are the uncompressed lengths of the stock front and rear springs? Thanks, Victor.
  17. tanny replied to tanny's post in a topic in Body & Paint
No, the thin stock strips(I think they're stock or dealer applied) along the side of the car that are black and chrome and maybe 1/2 inch wide and 1/4 inch high that run the length of the car at door handle height. Thanks, Victor.

I need to take off the decorative side moulding strips to paint the 240. How are they attached and are there preferred removal and reattachment techniques? Same question for the emblems. Thanks, Victor.
  19. Should have sued Dunkn Doughnuts for that too hot coffee. Swelling isn't a bad thing if it's the right spot.

Took me an hour to realize that my thoughts were turning sinful, so I had to turn off the computer to save my soul. Well, maybe it was my wife approaching and asking what was so interesting on the computer.

Just remember that living with someone in NO WAY prepares you for what or who they turn into after you're married. Everything is wonderful when you're in lust and are not yet bound by the marriage commitment. Familiarity and the golden ring can breed contempt, but on the other hand, some of the possible benefits(kids, good companionship, etc.) can outweigh many of the negatives(not being able to be totally selfish, no free time, being criticised for your many drawbacks, being fiancially sensible). The importance of the car may just be an indication that you still need to get the me, me, me out of your system and aren't ready yet for the us, us, us deal. No shame in that. Have a blast getting the me, me, me out, and then you won't feel so tethered when you do settle down. And if you think one woman is the only one for you, WRONG! There are literally millions you can have a good life with, so don't ever feel pressured to take the jump. Hows that for a bunch of cr_p to solve all your problems? Good luck and try to have as much fun as possible.

Is there anyone out there that has or knows someone who has triple webers on a 240 and maybe lives at high altitude(above 5000 feet so that I may see what type of jetting they have for the thin air. A carburetor specialist that has worked on webers at high altitude and remembers the jetting? I live at 6500 feet. Thanks, Victor.

I believe the term two stage means that the pressure is increased in two stages, and apparently this allows a greater volume of air at higher pressures. As you've probably found out, two stage is much more expensive than single stage, will require wiring the garage for 220 if not already wired, and two stage is probably unnecessary for the average home mechanic. Nice to have though if you can afford it.

Escanlon, I grew up in southern Cal and every 10 years when it snowed 3 inches, the highways became wrecking yards and school was out. I've now lived in Colorado for 25 years and have finally learned to slow down after sledding into a couple of ditches in the winter and snuffing a few Bambis in the summer.

Is there anyone out there that has triple Weber DCOE 40-18 carbs on a 240 that lives at higher altitude(above 5000) and knows what jetting has worked well? Thanks, Victor
