  1. No, the caburetor is that Rube Goldberg looking metal thing sitting on top or hanging off the side of the engine that requires infinite tinkering and patience, and nobody ever gets working perfectly. If they say they do, then they must be a ricer. Victor. Long live 73 boat anchors and webers.
  2. Condolences guy. The past several years I have been enjoying the exquisite pain and aggravation of a quite terminal disease and have been within hours or days of dying several times. So I have maybe been looking at this from your father's point of view, since I have an 18 year old daughter and a 15 year old son. I know your father passed away suddenly, so he probably didn't have the luxury of being able to reflect on his relationships and how his dying would affect them, but he might have had some similar thoughts to mine. One thing I didn't really realize at first was that my impending death was not really about me, but about how the kids and wife dealt with it. I had felt that the kids were dealing quite well and stoically with the process until I found out from one of my son's buddies parents that she had discovered him crying one night while sleeping over, really worried about what was happening to me. Big shock. I had taken things for granted, assuming that the kids could deal with my eventual death as easily as I had. Wrong assumptions as usual from a self centered pea brain. It finally dawned(duh) on me at that point that I needed to talk more intimately and thoroughly with the kids about my thoughts and theirs, and their future. I also realised that I need to hug them and tell them I love them every chance I get, which is several times a day while they are still living at home. Although it's a normal process, try not to waste your time with the "what ifs" or the "if onlys". Use that time to reflect on the fun things you did with your dad, his strange and funny quirks, the funny, absurd, or profound comments he made. As for feeling guilty for not having visited him within a certain amount of time, again a normal process, but a total waste of your time and thoughts, and I can pretty much guarantee that your father wasn't doubtful in the slightest as to your love for him. If my kids move out and I never see them again, I would never have any doubts at all as to their love for me. That parent kid thing is real durable. Good luck and have plenty of fun as soon as you're able. Victor. ps While lying in the hospital bed croaking from this worthless disease(I was stuck and alone in a Harrisburg PA hospital. Fortunately those good people pulled me through that time), the only thing I wanted to think about was my family and relationships I've had. Not one thought about my career, my athletic or scholastic accomplishments, or any money or possessions I had accumulated over my lifetime. Zero. Zilch. The ONLY thing that mattered were the personal relationships. Take warning workahaulics. Not trying to preach, but that has been my experience at least.

This stuff is always on ebay or at MSA or VB. Cost is always the limiting factor. I use a really nice bungee. Adds color to the engine bay. Original hold down wouldn't fit battery. Would have limited my choice of batteries.

Oh man, Bambi, do you fully comprehend what kind of unique possibilities that picture represents? Be careful, though, I might belong to the immoral police. Your picture might have to be removed for cameltoe unhingement(infringement?). Victor.

Nah, the moral policeman that caught this was a "pec" man and didn't like emphasis on the "glutes". Move the car down slightly so the full artistic merit can be scrutinized and appreciated. Blue what? This drawing is nicer than the Z logo one. Victor
  6. kmack, That's just what I needed. So the filler hose stays attached to the tank, you have to loosen it at the top by the gas cap? Are all the vent lines detached at the tank, or do any come out with the tank? Do you need to put any support(jack?) under the tank or is it light enough to not worry about? Thanks, Victor.
  7. Since this gas tank removal process is fresh in your mind and I will be removing mine shortly, could you give a brief description of the complete removal process, detailing in sequence what(hoses, etc.) you had to loosen or remove before you took off the straps and lowered the tank, and any tips you might have to make the process easier. Thanks, Victor.
  8. Spunky, You're right on about the people on this site making rebuilding a Z so much easier. Would have taken me 10 times as long to get my Z in shape without all the excellent free advice and ideas offered here. Leaving it overnight should allow the excess fuel to evaporate. So does this mean your fuel pump is now working well? Hearing your rebuilt engine start for the first time really is a rush. Did it run long enough for you to make sure you're getting oil up on the valve train and pressure is adequate? Victor.

The only thing the buyer will be able to tow with that massive hitch is his wallet, which has been lightened dramatically and foolishly by the purchase of this vehicle. Victor.

Some good ideas. Haven't checked yet on the side moulding to see whether it is riveted or taped on. I'll use some of the recommendations on removal from previous posts. I hope it's taped so there aren't holes to fill. The emblems are in really good shape from the car being stored inside and not used for 20 years. I will need to touch up the black backgrounds. Thanks, Victor.

The diagram of the resistor wired to the LED didn't come through on my computer. Just box with red X. Thanks for the info. Victor.

Yes, I think you're right. I'll order the POR 15 kit. Thanks, Victor.

If I take the gas tank down to the radiator shop and have the inside washed out(acid bath? Not sure yet what they use.), do I still have to coat with the Por 15 product, or just leave as is? The tank has no leaks, just a bunch of varnish(no rust) from sitting for twenty years and the varnish is constantly plugging the electric fuel pump filter. Thanks, Victor.

Escanlon, Thanks for the heads up on the pitfalls. I think I will take as much off as I can manage. I had just been worried about damaging the emblems. But with the double sided tape or adhesive to reinstall, there shoudn't be any major problem. Thanks again, Victor.
  15. Yeah, it seems like it would be pretty hard to hide the 12 inchers. I'm thinking more like 8 inchers max. Think I'll look through the gallery as advised and see if someone had a brainstorm that worked. Victor.

If a pin is broken while removing the emblem, I guess it's no problem because on the inaccessible ones you can't put a retainer back on anyway. The pins would serve only as alignment aids. What about not removing the emblems? Is the paint job compromised, or will masking do the job adequately? I know for continuity of the paint surface, removing the emblems would be the ideal choice. Thanks, Victor.

Hadn't really thought about the pump being inadequate, although the stumbling occurs at fairly low demand time. Don't really have to stomp it to get the stumble, just try to lightly accelerate while turning. I guess if the pump isn't shooting gas into the bowl fast enough to compensate for the change in level of the fuel surface, that might cause problems. I might as well try changing the float level first, and if that doesn't have any effect, try a different pump. Thanks, Victor.

Is there a good way to remove the emblems from the Z without breaking the tabs, or would getting the car painted without removing the emblems be advisable to avoid breaking them? Thanks, Victor.

I have triple webers and when accelerating through a turn either left or right( such as a turn at an intersection) with some speed(doesn't take much), the engine starts cutting out(definitely feels like lack of fuel) and returns to normal after the turn. Could this be caused by fuel level being too low in bowl? What else is possible? Thanks, Victor.
  20. Does someone also have any ideas or pictures on placement of single or double subwoofers(behind seats, on the deck, etc.) that keeps maximum space on the deck? Not trying to steal the thread, but the added info would help. Thanks, Victor.

mperdue, Yeah, I used them on the rear and they are working great. The ride is so much more enjoyable and I'm not grading the dirt roads around my place with the underside of the car. Thanks again for those springs. Victor.
  22. tanny replied to tanny's post in a topic in Suspension & Steering
Put the two new right front stock springs on the front and the used stock springs on the back, and am Very happy with the results. Camber back to normal and the ride is much less jarring. My kidneys thank me. Sorry to the performance dudes, but the old calcium sticks(bones) couldn't handle the the stiff lowered springs. Thanks, Victor.

When I was buying a stereo for my daughter's Escort, I checked out the "free" installations and they really were quite exhorbitant. All were over $100. Did it myself. Victor.
  24. Just work really slowly and methodically, eyeballing clearances as you go. No quick or jerky moves Keep your extremities out of the way in case it does drop. A helper is really nice. Victor.
