New Graphics on my Z
Yep... We flamed it! Not quite one of the original concepts, but close. I hadn't posted anything, because I was planning to reduce the number size a little. They cover too much of the flames. Here's a picture from the Houston Natl. Tour. We ran EM since no one showed up in FP. We told everyone the flames weren't legal in Preprared. The EM on the door was just electric tape so it looks like crap. We kinda surprised some of the guys in EM. Finished second behind the former Natl Champ. He won by 5 seconds, but that was all from day one when it started raining right after his run. Tom

Hey Axelr8, That's pretty cool looking! My first thought was "Hey another white Z with the same wheels as me! Oh wait! That is my car" The car is supposed to get shot this coming weekend, so I'll be making a decision soon... Tom

Hi Mike, Yes, I'll be going the vinyl route. I have a friend with the equipment, so I can get it done for the cost of materials... I did have the thought of trying to make the center color patch on the flames static cling so that I can change it out whenever the mood struck. I would probably have to make the color not start until after the flare though. We'll see... The good thing about vinyl is it can be changed a lot easier than painted graphics (unless you leave it on the car for 9 years like my old numbers!) Tom

I can't do the Texas flag... Phil Adams did that to his MR2 when he was running FP in 2002/2003. He trashed his engine at the Fort Worth Divisional last year and has most likely retired the car for the foreseeable future, but the statute of limitations has not expired on his paint job. Tom

... Totally unrelated to the graphics discussion, but I stuck a couple of newer videos on my site. When capturing the video I kept getting the occasional dropped frames, so forgive the occasional glitch... you get what you pay for around here http://sth2.com/Z-car/video.htm Tom

New Graphics on my Z
Hey Carl, The video is just a couple of MPEGs on my website... http://sth2.com/Z-car/ scroll down to the video links and see why I don't make my living as a professional video editor or race car driver! I was looking through my newer video clips and found a few more that I can put up... I need to convert them to mpgs first... I don't think my bandwidth limits would like people pulling down 200+Mb for a 60 second clip. Give me a few days... Tom

Hey Michael, That's one of the better rising sun layouts I've seen... the 2 or 3 others I have seen had a much smaller sun centered on the roof or hood, but like Victor said... I don't know if that'll fly in Texas. Getting to Craig's comments I did see a cool "classic" flame job on an ebay car a while back... here it is... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6763&item=2446799102>http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6763&item=2446799102 I hope that text wraps okay. That paint job is a few miles outside of my budget... I need to post the photoshop job a coworker did to my car... he made it look like teh biggest snowbelt rustbucket you ever saw. Some of you might like it better Tom

New Graphics on my Z
Well, I've tried to post a few photos, but they're not going through... Black and Blue flames are the leader right now... according to my wife! Sorry to disappoint guys but I'm tarting this one up! I would never get this bold on a street car, but for a dedicated race car, overstated is OK with me. I also like the BRE look, but it's been copied too many times for me to add to the list. Tom

New Graphics on my Z
Wake up everybody! This forum has been too quiet, so I'm throwing this out for fun... I'm repainting my car (white again) to try and remove the reminders of the hundreds of cones I have crushed while flogging this car for the past 10+ years. To jazz it up I'm planning on putting some bold graphics on the car, vinyl, not paint... So, Some friends and I have come up with someting like 22 different options so far and posted them on this site http://sth2.com/Z-car/newstripes/ Take a look at them all and let me know which ones you like (or hate)... I'll post the top few as of now... starting with the top pick of my wife and kids... Tom

Any competitive solo2 BSP Zs out there?
Brian, With the engine swap you're talking about, that automatically puts you in E Mod or SM2. In EM you'll be dog food if there are any remotely serious cars in your area. SM2 is the way to go. Street cars with serious performance mods. Of your list of plans you sound pretty seriously under-tired. You will need at least 8" wheels all around, if not bigger. Tom

Any competitive solo2 BSP Zs out there?
I thought my ears were burning... Nobody brought any BSP Z's to Kansas this year, with the exception of the 350, but that doesn't mean they can't be competitive. It's just not as easy as buying a C4 and slapping some huge rubber on it. People just don't "believe" the 1st gen Z's can be competitive, so they don't try. It wasn't that long ago that Vic proved it can be done, but he's a helluva good driver and he spent a bunch of money to get a 30+ year old car to the level it needed to be. I think to have a competitve BSP Z you HAVE to have a 240. The 260's and 280's tend to be too heavy, and since there's no minimum weight you want to start with the lighter frame. Next be ready to replace the whole suspension and flare the fenders to fit the big rubber under it. After that it just takes talent! FP is certainly no cheaper or easier... but everybody (regardless of make and model) has to go to the same extents to be fast. So, therfore it doesn't seem like it is as difficult to make a Z competitive. Tom

Dr Sideways ?
Britt, The track width is definitely measured from the centerline of the wheels. Section 12.5 of the Solo rulebook if anyone is reading along at home... 16x10 is the max wheel size. If you want to know anything about building a Z for FP let me know. I'll gladly share anything I know... we need more bodies in the class!!! I've tried to put just about everything I could think of on my website http://www.ccsi.com/~tholt/ but there are alsways more questions... Dr. Sideways... do you ever travel out of the Va/NC area??? I would love to meet at a National Tour or something between there and Texas. It could be some fun racing! Tom FP29

Z car video's
Those are Complete Custom Wheels www.ccwheel.com Mine are 2 piece 16x10 with 5" backspace. I've attached a picture of their 3 piece wheel... mine look the same except for no hardware around the perimeter. At the time they were the second cheapest alloy wheel I could find (only$260 ea.) and definitely looked cooler than the cheapest (Real Wheels were $190). Those prices are several years old, and I've heard CCW doesn't make the 2 piece anymore, so expect to pay a lot more. Tom

Z car video's
I have a few videos on my website at http://www.ccsi.com/~tholt/index.htm Just scroll down... the link on the left will take you to the video of the car shown in my avatar, while the link on the right will take you to the video of my wife crashing our previous race Z... It's not much of a crash to watch, but it sure trashed the unibody. (Yes we're still married):classic: Tom
