  1. Impact driver work for me too. It got a lot of the 40 year old screws loose no problem. It’s a tool worth having. I don't know if there would be a problem running without the backing plates but I can't think of anything but more road dirt and water. It should not be a problem if the car is a Sunday driver and you keep them clean. I am not an expert.

I just received 3 pieces of Kia Sportage weather strip for my 73 240Z. The internet is a wonderful tool. The weather strip was $19.00 each with $40.00 shipping. They came from a company named FourGreen. They said they had a problem finding them in the US and they were shipped from Dubai. It will take some time to put them in because my Mom is sick again and I’m spending all my extra time with her and haven’t been able to finish the car. I’m down to the last 10 or 20 hours but of course family comes first. I hope it works as well as everyone on the site is saying. I will let you know how it goes. There is a lot of posts about it but any installation advice and suggestions are appreciated.
  3. Mine ran 20+ years before it stopped and I had to clean it. I guess I have to quickly clean it 38 more times to catch up.
  4. do your delay wipers work? I have everything working except the delay wipers.
  5. Hi Ptero, Did you figure out where the yellow and black/yellow wires hook up? I have been looking for days at everything I can find it.

Hi Steve, Thanks for the reply. They are from a small harness that comes from the fuel pump and washer delay relay. Its a big relay with two connectors, one 6 pin and one 4 pin. Two of the wires from this harness go to the fuel pump and two go to the fuel pump fuse. I will look again at the FSM. I do see a yellow and Black/yellow that comes from the wiper motor in the FSM but cannot see where to physically connect them under the dash. I pulled out the glove box so I could look for the connections and I have been under the dash for a long time and cannot find where they connect. I will keep looking, if anyone has ideas let me know.

I still can't figure out where to plug in the Yellow and Black/yellow wires. Can anyone help?
  8. When the flat bed delivered my 73Z from the paint shop he didn't know it was. This is a guy that has been moving cars for 10+ years. When I told him it was a 73 240Z I have been working on for 3 years he was so impressed he refused to take money. I guess there are not many here on the east coast.

Tack is fixed. There are two b/w wires going to coil and resistor. One is going to the coil and a b/w wire going to the resistor. I switched the wires and presto, the tack works. So I just have to figure out the Yellow wire and Black/Yellow wire.

The wires are coming from the delay wiper and fuel pump relay on the side by the glove box. Almost everything works except the delay setting on the wipers and the Tack. I'm pretty sure the wire have to do with the delay wipers. I just started looking at the Tack problem. I took the car apart 4 years ago so I can remember everything but when I get the last few electrical problems fixed, I can finnish putting the car together and get it on the road.

I cant figure out where to plug in the Yellow wire and Black/Yellow wire. I have been looking at the wiring in the book and I can see the wiper has a yellow wire and a black/yellow wire but do not see what to hook the wires in the pitures up to. If anyone can help it would be great. They are by the relays. The car is a late 73.
  12. You are right about not going nuts setting up a sound system in such a loud car. I'm hoping I can here the music. I didn't with the one stock 5" speaker in the back. I will be adding foam and such. I was not going to address the sound system yet but with the windshield out it looked easy to mount the front speakers. It would be almost imposable to do this with the windshield in. I'm hoping to get the windshield instaled in the next few days. Then I can insure it and go for the first test drive in 30 years. I'm Happy!!!!!!

Most of the car is working, I don't have the delay wipers working yet. There are a few wire I can't seem to find where to conect. I have attached a few pictures. These wires are by the relay block.
  14. Adding some front speakers. I am leaving the stock radio but adding a power amp under the passenger seat. I’m putting 2, 8” speakers in the back in the original locations and 2, 2 ½” midranges in the front. Maybe add some tweeters later. I will be able to plug in almost any source to the amp, an iPod or navigator along with the radio.

Very cool, the run on problem is likely from the internal regulator alternator with no diode. That answers that. The alternator is the only upgrade that is not compleet (need a diode). I also put in headlight relays that are powered from the original headlight circut. The lights are powered directly from the alternator power terminal. This works fine. The harness with the big Yellow and Black wires by the relay block, i'm not sure where to connect it? Do the two connectors from this harness go to the 10 pin relay? (they plug in) The big Yellow and Black wires by the relay block, I do not know where to connect them.

Hi, I need help. I have a late 73 240 Z with intermittent wipers and an electric fuel pump. I just put in the dash a day or two ago and have been having electrical issues. I’m not sure if I have all the relay/harness connection right. The lights all work, the blower works, the hazards work the car runs but will not turn off with the key. When the motor is stopped, there is no voltage on the coil. The wipers work to a point, the intermittent setting gives me low speed, low speed gives me low speed and hi gives me hi speed. Can someone confirm if the small group of wires that has the Fuel pump fuse on one end and the relay block on the other all goes to the relay with the 10 connections. The fuel pump is not getting power. Also there are a large black and yellow set of wires coming out of this same harness on the relay side, where do they plug in. I do not see the Black and Yellow wires in the dash harness? HELP!!!!! Please send pictures of the late 73 relay block, or a drawing of the connections. My book shows the fuel pump goes directly to the ignition contact on the key switch, my car looks like it sends the fuel pump wires to the relay block, my book does not show everything that’s going on here. HELP!!!!
  17. I would like the 3 Barb Fuel Rail for L6. I emailed Yuiko @ the email above.

Thanks for the good words; I am getting excited about getting it on the road after 27 years of storage. This is the fourth summer I’m working on it but it will be ready in about a month. I can only give it about one day a week. It was hard, about 8 hours over two days of working at it. That did include Dynamat on the floors and transmission tunnel and padding on the transmission tunnel under the vinyl. The shock tower and front wheel arch covers were separate pieces. The shock tower and back wheel arch covers were one pieces. It would have been allot harder if it was all one pieces. The shock towers were the hardest part. I glued the top flat surface of the shock tower first pulling like heck to get it to conform then did the sides. The flat panel behind the transmission tunnel took a little work too. I wound up making the sides that hit the vinyl on the transmission tunnel tight leaving a little extra material on the top over the tunnel. Then I carefully worked the vinyl there to compress the material to make it fit. I looked at it and dry fit the parts over and over before I got out the glue. If I had to do it again I could most likely do it in half the time. Thanks again for the good words and encouragement. I don't know about the sill rubber. I found one of my old ones in a box from 4 years ago but have not found the other side. I may have kept it as pattern. I may need to make them or find them also.

The new vinyl is in. I still have a few bumps to rub out but I'm happy..... I put in the new rugs to see what it would look like. It was a lot of work to get the MSA kit to fit well, I had to pull and stretch and heat the material but in the end it fit OK.
  20. Thanks guys, a little bit of epoxy and it's all better.
  21. The plastic block that holds the horn contact on the steering column has broken. Can someone help me find a replacement part? I have a late 1973 240Z.

Thanks but I'm really happy with bumper.

Thanks everyone. I see the mounting points now. There are two big old nuts it just the right places to mount the brackets on each side. I should have realized they would be up higher. The 73 mounts curve up from a lower mounting point on the car not in line with the bumper. The 72 mounts are straight in. I agree the 73 bumper is mounted much better and stronger, but I do not have a good 73 bumper and I do have a perfect 72 bumper. Thanks again, this site has been great. Maybe I can figure out how to use the 73 mounts at a future time. I can use the 72 for now and I have a clean bumper, very cool. Thank you all very much........

I need some advice. I have found a number of posts that say you can bolt the 72 bumper mounting brackets on the 73. I now have a mint 72 front bumper and clean 72 mounting brackets. The posts say the threaded holes are on the 73 for the 72 mounts. I removed the 73 bumper mounts and do not see the mounting holes for the 72 brackets. There seam to be some sheet metal plates (welded on) that that guide the 73 mounts. Do i have to pull them off the exposes the threaded holes for the 72 mounting brackets?
