I'm also installing a VintageAir Mini in my '72. My dealer-installed system, even with a Sanden compressor upgrade, was a mediocre performer at best. Got too expensive to recharge so I sold it. If you're interested in the ability to pull in fresh air with a VintageAir system as I definitely am, check out this thread: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/thread35510.html

Les uses Vintage Rubber parts. Based on his recommendation, I purchased a Vintage Rubber kit last week instead of Factory parts. I ordered the kit directly from Vintage at his request.
  3. I'm pretty sure that's what I used on a '73 exhaust manifold many moons ago. Stack two plugs in each hole, only torquing down the 2nd to make them easier to remove. Here's a picture of a couple of the plugs I happened to save.
  4. We visited the California Automobile Museum in Sacramento last month and I was pleasantly surprised to see a '72 240z on display. It looked right at home with all of the other classic cars on display.

Here's a couple of photos I have of my '72 z's rear interior without vinyl.
  6. I'm pretty sure no US '72 z's came with a stock rear sway bar. I installed a BRE/Interpart rear sway bar kit in 1975, which is a rear-oriented design. The instructions are posted here: http://www.zhome.com/ZCMnL/tech/BRESway.htm
  7. I took these photos when installing a new exhaust system. Hope they help.

Just saw your post. It looks more like #903 on my monitor. Was #903 available for the '72 model year in the USA?
  9. Agree. I spoke to an Eibach tech (Dave?) earlier this week and he confirmed that the springs should be installed with the printing right-side up, and spring PNs ending in 1 in the front, and 2 in the rear. He also said the spring constants for the 240z Eibach springs are 148lb/in front and 303lb/in rear.

I just wanted to confirm that the engine and transmission can be pulled as a unit. Radiator's out, of course. I thought I installed it assembled using a load leveler by myself, but that was 12-13 years ago and my memory isn't always accurate. 8( The engine is being pulled tomorrow so that's why I posted here. Thanks for your help! Dave
  11. Shoot, I just saw the thread. Would stopped by, but not in my z. It was media blasted on Wednesday. Semper Fi.
  12. I spoke with the restoration shop owner today and mentioned your concerns. The SEM and Wurth undercoatings they use are paintable. He also said they spray a 3M rust inhibitor inside of the frame rails on their restorations. Thanks again for the suggestions.
  13. I'm going to Pick 'n Pull tomorrow to see what's available in Sentra mirrors (or others). My son has a Sentra SER but I think he'd miss his mirrors if I took them. How do these types of mirrors mount? I've read about people making their own brackets. It would be great to see some pics.
  14. That's a great idea. Looks like I need to make a trip to Pick 'n Pull.
  15. I recommend removing the seat, too, if you plan to spend much time under there. I installed AC in my z and the control cables did not have to be changed. If the blower motor has died, I recommend upgrading to a honda blower motor. Got mine for cheap from Pick 'n Pull. Made a big difference.
  16. The BD handles look great. Good pics. Thanks.
  17. How well do the Black Dragon handles compare to your old handles? They're half the price of the Nissan parts.
  18. That's unfortunate. I'm also considering LH and RH stock mirrors. Would maintain the classic look, but visibility is limited for the flat (non-convex) RH mirror. Any vibration or other issues with them? Has anyone installed Motorsport's California Style mirrors? I haven't been able to find a photo of a z with them installed.
  19. Geez. I even have a copy of Wick's book. Thanks for the help.
  20. Do you have the "mix" info for the PPG paint? The shop I go to can do about anything.
  21. I must not have used the right search criteria. Anyhow, I had the impression they were pretty good mirrors. Here is an excerpt from an email I received back in 2000 regarding Motorsport Flush Mounted Mirrors: I have a set of Motorsport flush mirrors on my wife's 240Z. She wanted them because she hates when people walk by and knocks the aftermarket mirrors out of adjustment. Granted these mirrors are expensive, but the kit Motorsport made up to mount them on a early Z is very good. Motorsport told me that these are factory Sentra mirrors. The only thing to note is the right side mirror is NOT convex so you don't get an expanded view of the traffic, if that's what you are used to. My friend copied the mounting plate and installed a set of Toyota Celica mirrors with the "big hole" in them. They look cool, but they are kind of big compared to regular Z mirrors or the Motorsport ones for that matter. They really sounded great. Motorsport may have changed the design since then.
  22. I'm leaning towards installing Motorsport flush mounted mirrors on my 240z. They're a bit modern-looking, but quality and good visibility is more important to me than aesthetics in this case. I was hoping I could get some feedback from owners of these mirrors. Dave
  23. That's good news. New handles sounds like the way to go. I had one break about 15 years ago. They don't last forever.
  24. The rubber does appear to be bonded to the handle. Anyone purchased new handles? If the rubber comes with the handle, it might be worth the $$$. The door handles are coming off anyhow for painting.
  25. Yep, that's what I'm looking for. Here's what mine looks like now: I'd still like to know what the part number is. I do have some sheet rubber and will try making a couple. The little raised bumpers on the lower-inner corners might be tricky, though.
