  1. The 4sd gearbox was used till at least November 1973,as my previous car was a 4sd, my current car is a March 1974. The First couple of hundred 240k's imported were badged as GTs, that was around March 1973.From then on they were GL's ,I'm not sure when the change occured to 5sd, but as I'm going to set it up for cruising, I think a 4sd will do the job. A 5sd is better suited for faster acceleration, I suppose whichever one I find first.
  2. Thanks guys, I think it's had a relaxing life up till now, first owner was a Reverand, second an old married couple, third a mature gentleman, and I'm the fourth. Plus the fact that it's automatic, hasn't been doing any burnouts haha. I will keep it yellow for now, but if I decide to go G.T.R replica, then maybe white might be the go. My first port of call will be to find a 4sp manual gearbox, (trying to keep her as original as possible), so will be on the lookout for an original L6 gearbox and shifter, pedals e.t.c.
  3. Hi Guys, I'm back from overseas and as mentioned in Uras1's thread a couple of months ago I thought I would share pictures of my new coupe. It's a 1974 2 door, completely original, and apart from some spongy brakes, drives pretty well. I'm planning on tidying her up for Rego, and enjoying driving her with a view to a full restoration and possibly converting to a G.T.R replica in the future. Cheers.

Hey Scott, Congratulations on the purchase and it's great to see your hard work reaping rewards. How does she drive? Probably like a car that's been in storage for about 10 years. I never got the time to get her going, so I'm glad that she's gone to someone who has the time and ability to restore her back to her former glory. Sounds like you are going down the GTR replica road. I'm currently overseas and won't be back for a few months, I check this site when I get the chance, hope you keep us posted on your progress. After selling to you, I realized that there was a 240K hole in my life, which could only be filled with another 240K, so I had to buy another one, which is exactly what I did. When I get back home, I will post up pictures of my new 2 door. Cheers, Costas

I have decided to sell my 1973 Coupe because I unfortunately don't have the time to dedicate to restoring it. Here is the link: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/DATSUN-240K-COUPE-1973-SKYLINE-KPGC110-GTR-MANUAL-/140513881305?pt=AU_Cars&hash=item20b747acd9 Hopefully it will go to a good home, someone who will restore it and not strip it for parts as it is complete and has survived for so long completely original. Cheers, 240KtoGTR.

It may have had the bottom half of the dash changed at some point, but the two reflectors on the rear bumper are certainly consistent with a later model, i.e they are rectangular with curved edges, whereas the earlier models have rectangular reflectors with pointy edges. Only way to tell for sure is to read the date off the build plate on firewall.

  13. Mine's a November 1973 coupe, Kent, It's great that you are sharing your story with the rest of us and giving us such detailed info on your build up. It certainly gives me inspiration for when I will be ready to tackle my project. Regards: Costas.

Hi Noddle, These flares seem to be better copies than some other ones going around, one way to tell is that they have the ridge on the outer edge which is supposed to follow the "sail" line of the 240K, in other words they don't have a completely round arc on the outside. I bought some overfenders recently and they seem to fit correctly. I taped them on my coupe to see how they sat, can't wait till I can actually start the project. Good Luck with the auction.

Hey Mr. Camouflage, I remember going and having a look at that bronze 240K in Minchinbery back in July 2007, was interested in purchasing. The guy selling was named Alex, but unfortunately the car wouldn't start when I was there, he was willing to sell to me for $4600 without the turbo kit he had. He told me he had buyers in Dubai who were willing to pay $5000 plus transport costs (maybe to push me into buying), but I eventually walked away.Seemed a bit of an opportunist.Just like the current one on Ebay!

Hi Ovenfood, Yes, my 240K was imported to Australia...... in 1973!!! When I bought it, it came with some original paperwork, including the "warranty and service booklet". On the inside front cover it lists the original owner and the delivery date, being 28/12/1973, (the compliance plate is 11/73). Also the distributor, being "Capitol Motors" in Auburn, Sydney, and also the selling dealer, being "Nuline Motors" in Coonamble, N.S.W. As far as I can tell, it is still completely original, and according to the previous owner of 5 years, has never been in a major accident. I guess I thought all 240Ks came with timber handbrake handles, until you pointed that out. Maybe it was changed by a previous owner? Do any other early 240K owners have timber ones as well??? A further discussion is imminent!!!

Hey Kid-K, Add me to the list for the tail light rings as well please. Also I'd be interested in the GTR Grill, and if you were making them, flares, rear bobtail spoiler and possibly the badges depending on how they look. carbon fibre may be the way to go with the bonnets, but it probably depends on cost. thanks for putting in the hard work and effort in replicating these rare parts!! thanks to you, there may be a dozen GTR replicas on the road soon!!!

:classic:Thanks KID-K, $240 for the pair chromed seems very reasonable, when you get yours in January, tell/show us how they are, and let me know how to organise payment. cheers. 240KtoGTR.

Thanks for the info for the photos, but I managed to work out how to do it on this forum. As for the reflector, I was hoping to just walk into my local Nissan dealer and buy one off the shelf!!!! (Just Kidding) damn. Regards: 240KtoGTR

Hi, Nice to be welcomed.Just thought I might show some recent photos of the 240K coupe I purchased recently, the only things that I have found to be missing are the two horizontal chrome strips for the front windscreen (top strip and bottom strip), and little red rectangular reflector for left side of rear bumper. If anyone has any spares of these please let me know. I tried to attach photos to this message but it won't allow me, I will try and work it out and send photos on my next post. Regards:240KtoGTR

Hi SHM17Y, Sorry to have disappointed you, but I was looking for a 240K coupe for a long time now. I'm new to this forum, or any forum for that matter. I can assure you that I will be restoring this 240K and converting it to a GTR replica (which i'm sure has been done before). Yes it is a bit "Rustic", but that is mainly restricted to the edge lip of the boot and bonnet. This will be a long term project for me, as getting time to work on the 240K will be hard. I look forward to hearing from any members who might have any info on this particular car's history. The sale included some service receipts and the original owners manual, which had the first owners details, I'm happy that it is a factory 4spd manual, as this was specifically what I was looking for. Anyway I will try and post some photos of it in the future, once I get the hang of this forum thing. cheers.
