Have you taken a fuse with you to the Auto parts? And don't rely on the guy at the store. Just match what you need. Don't sweat the agc sfe acronyms. Just find the right length and amperage. They "are" available.

On Holley electric chokes there is a spring inside a round usually black, maybe tan plastic cover on the passenger side. You loosen 3 screws and turn it till the choke butterfly closes. Not tight just mostly closed. Then when you start/run the car the electric heats the spring relaxing it. Just check to see if you have power to the wire that hooks to the choke cover when the key is on and if you do and it still does not work you may have to pull the cover to make sure the spring is attached to the choke lever. I hope this all makes sense. Actually you will be able to tell if the spring is hooked up properly when you loosen it and turn it. Also you will have to prop the throttle open a little or give it a blip in between adjustment or the choke may not close because it will be caught on the high idle detent until you hit the throttle. In other words when the car is cold the choke will still be open until you hit the throttle the first time in the morning.

Not sure where to post this. I am needing a couple small items and have some parts I don't need. I am looking for a centercap for my sons 74 260 wheels and also the cap that covers the rear strut tower. Also would like to find a red sidemarker lense. I have some butterscotch doorpanels but they have speaker holes cut in them. Also have a black center console. It has some cracking near the ashtray area but could be fixed. Also have the trim panel that has a cigarette lighter, I think it fits where the stereo goes. Also a couple extra starters. Not sure how good they are, most likely need a rebuild. Here is the closest pic I have of the wheels. Not sure if other years have a similar cap. I might be willing to buy a complete set also. Thanks for looking. Let me know if you need any of my parts.

I know it Lonnie. I wanted to but we got going way late and I had a 19 yo that had to be back at base. I wish we could have just celebrated New Years on the road and taken more time. Even the bodywork and paint happened in two weeks:stupid: But I had back surgery 2 months ago so I had to wait for my son to come home and do 99 % of it. If you looked at it close you would find a lot of sins but it sure gets the looks. I am kinda proud of the grill. Taylor was adament about no front bumper so I added 3 rows of 1/4" bar and mounts for blinkers. He didn't like the blinkers, one was broken:mad: If I planned the trip we would have taken 3+ days and lots of pics and stops... The modded window regulator works great btw. I measured very very carefully but it seemed to come out a little long. When the window is partway down the roller gets right to the edge of the track, then when it passes that point it pulls back in. I changed the title of this thread so maybe you have some pics of Branson. It doesn't have to be 2011

The 260 finally made its first big road trip. Not too many pics. It was a pretty fast trip. We/ me and my son have been working on his 260 for about a year. All the fuel, coolant and brake lines have been replaced. including all the lines at the tank. Repacked front bearings and greased all joints. New driveshaft built. Installed a 5-speed. New header and 2 1/2" exhaust. Lots of susp. bushings replaced. Added a relay to the headlights. Added a fuse panel under the hood. My son found black seats and door panels and dyed the rest . Then we painted it over Christmas and installed new door and hatch weatherstrip. On to the trip. We left Wichita about 11:30 New Years day. Should have left earlier but were a little hung over:beer: The starter solenoid stuck at the first gas stop in Pratt. Which is weird because I had an auto electric shop rebuild it with Bosch parts. We push started the car and drove to the Auto Parts. Took it off and had them test it which it passed:ermm: Bolted it back on and headed out. Made it almost to Clovis NM. when the fuel filter plugged up. Glad I bought one in Pratt. We drained and rinsed the tank awhile back and changed the filter but I had a feeling we would have to do this again. We got to Sierra Vista Az. about 6 Sunday and when we were leaving for the airport on Monday it started to bog again. It was at 1/4 tank. We filled the car and it ran fine. So maybe the pump is getting weak. It was a blast driving this car across country. We had people pointing at us from rest stops, girls taking our picture and cops checking us out but not pulling us over. Too cool. I told my son if he decides to ever sell it he better call me first:classic:

Anxious to hear if the new booster helps. I put the braided stainless lines on my sons car and rebuilt the rear wheel cyl. and bled a couple times and now the pedal is nice and firm and high but i seem to have lost the power assist. I am wondering if running the brakes in a new area of travel on the rod may have done something.

Now you got new filters you can clean the old ones and have them ready in a plastic bag. All you need is a small dishpan and some warm soap and water. let them soak. You may have to change the soapy water out a couple times and then "gently" blow them off a little and let them dry. Then re-oil. Don't use much oil. It will spread out after you spray a little. Also there is a drain plug on the gas tank but not much fun if it is full. On my sons I ran it really low and drained it. Water will settle to the bottom . I changed the filter and you could tap it and lots of crud came out. We are getting ready to do it again. When you do the cap and rotor grab the rotor and make sure it will twist one way about 10 degrees and snap back freely. My sons wouldn't and I just sprayed wd-40 under the breaker plate and worked it back and forth till it freed up. Don't worry about using wd-40 it won't hurt anything. Good luck. Looks really nice.

Here you can see where I loosened the door latch for the new weatherstrip. And the one fogged spot on the bottom of the door, I hope it can be wetsanded and polished. There are a couple small runs too. She's gonna look awesome at 60 mph.

Thanks, It does have its sins but it turned out ok. This car really needs to have all the glass and wiring pulled. I added relays and cleaned things up so lights are working better. I think my son is going to enjoy it. I keep telling him he's going to have girls hanging out of cars yelling at him.

I will. My son would like to do a v-8 swap but that will have to wait till he has his own place. An LT1 T56 would be pretty awesome.

Thank you. It is 35 Tango. His AIT is 48 weeks. He doesn't get out till July. He will have a dual associates in electrical and electronics. Pretty cool.

My son is home from AIT for Christmas and we got his Z painted. We spent about 6 days at a friends shop and spent about $250. It is just black enamel. We did some custom metalwork. I added 3 rows to the grill and plates for led blinkers. We welded plates over the old blinker holes and bumper recess. Did the same for the rear bumper recess. Also welded in four patch panels, bottom of both front fenders and front of rear wheel wells. Shortened the rear bumper. And filled the vents on the rear cowl. Whew !! We also replaced the door and hatch weatherstrip so we had to loosen the latches a little. It turned out pretty well for a couple newbe bodymen. I have done a little over the years but this is the first time I have painted one myself. We had lots of help from my sons friends and the friend of mine who's shop we used. We leave Sat. for it's biggest roadtrip yet. Back to Sierra Vista Az. I replaced all the brake/fuel and coolant lines and repacked the front bearings. Tightened every nut underneath and greased every zerk. Installed the header and had new 2 1/2 inch exhaust installed. I also replaced a lot of front and rear susp. bushings. And added a relay for the headlights and electronic flasher for the blinkers. All in all a really good start I think.
  15. Sorry SBlake Didn't mean any harm. :stupid:
  16. Seems maybe some don't understand the obsession that a car can become. When you get a vision of what you want it is easy to get tunnel vision. I have done this on many projects. It can be hard on a marriage but if kept in check can be the most fun with your clothes on you can have It's not about legitimizing anything. It's about creativity and passion and some people don't "get" that. What is so cool is when my kids or wife say " Dad you can build anything "

Ok boys:) You both make good points. Someone asked about brands and the one I just put on Taylors car is the MSA 6 into 1. Gap looked very similar. I found the same conclusion. It did not take much torque at all for it to "suck" down. Not too many miles yet, maybe 100 so time will tell. After wrenching for 30+ yrs. I would say it is a crapshoot. Almost all headers I have dealt with usually have some issues requiring re-torquing periodically. I have found that if you re torque when hot every so often you can go for many miles/ years on a set of gaskets. Also the flange on these is thicker than most I have dealt with so that should help.

I just put the non coated header 6 into 1 on my sons and it came the same way. I was not happy but it sealed up fine. I just went over the bolts several times.

And maybe reuse the speedo gear from your 4-speed. It matches the rear gear in your car. The zx may have a different rear gear ratio.
  20. Dave, Your work is so awesome. Very clean. I got my R/T mount from the link you provided and a new factory isolator today so hopefully it is goodbye clunk.

Oh Man ! I am getting ready to do this. My sons 260 is leaking coolant right at the rear of the head/driver side. Just a dribble part of the time but using sealant does not inspire much confidence for me. Any tips to not breaking head bolts. I know soaking would probably be a waste of time. Would penetrating oil even get to where it was needed?
  22. I know that someone put those exact carbs on my sons car and they have been rock solid. And this whole car/engine was trashed/filthy when we got it but that motor always fires right up. Only thing is when the car sits more than a week it is like they dry out. I have to run the fuel pump till it stops and pump the heck out of it. If I drive it every day it is perfect ??
  23. I have the link on another puter but you might search for the rt mount and it is on that thread. I think it is actually a smallblock chevy poly trans. mount. I think Summit carries it.

Haha Racing as a driving lesson.. I wish my dad would have taken me racing. I learned how to drive in a hay truck. I think I toppled a few stacks of hay:) I remember telling my dad how fun it was driving and he said it was fun trying to ride back there too;) Good story !
  25. Aha. It sure didn't look right. At the front bushing it is rubbing metal to metal. I looked at the rear one thinking it would have more clearance and maybe it was pushed towards the front but it is close too. On the drivers side with the a-arm flipped over there is a lot more room at the bushings.
